I remember when Dortmund lost the Bundesliga Championship last season, they posted a video on Twitter with the players standing in front of the "yellow wall" crying and singing with their fans. We are far from civilized". I didn't think it could be this bad. Apparently it is.

I think football federations need to start giving points deductions for mass fan incidents (I don't think a club should be punished for 1 or 2 fans, mostly because 1 or 2 fans are not representative of a whole fanbase, and also I think if you started punishing incidents of singular fans, I think you'd have rival fans sneaking into other team's sections to give them points deductions). All that "we're just passionate fans wanting the best for our club" arguments go straight out of the window if committing acts of violence sees their club deducted points. Clubs have more of a prerogative to keep rival fans out of the wrong ends of the stands as well then.
@octavianpopescu4776
@octavianpopescu4776 5 месяцев назад
Bit of an administrative problem with your logic. You assume the federation is in charge of the top tier. I don't know about other countries, but in my country (Romania) there's a separate body called LPF (Professional Football League) that organizes the competition, they make the rules. I think the Premier League in the UK has a similar logic, I don't think the FA is in charge of it. And these bodies are basically associations of top league clubs and they have voting rights and there's no way in hell they're going to vote to punish themselves. And fans will never pressure clubs to adopt such measures. So what incentive would there be?

Completely disagree with that. Punishing a club for the behaviour of their fans isn't fair to the club and also doesn't work. The people entering a pitch looking for a fight are mostly hooligans who generally openly admit to care more about the fights then about the violence. Also it doesn't work with flares. Clubs have to pay money for flares and fans still use them, as they should.

Some context from the perspective of a Fener fan: "This dude #1": Dusan Tadic (Serbian) "This dude #2": Dominik Livakovic (Croatian) The ref is the same one who was beaten by one of the club presidents (clubs that are run by an owner are a minority in Turkey) a few months ago. Yes, he should have called the game off at around 60, but he does have the fresh trauma I guess. Then again, no other ref would be able to do so either, not when there is an election for local governments (municipalities) mere weeks away. Yes, that most probably would play a role in such a decision. No, it *should* never, ever play a role in such a decision. Trabzonspor and Fenerbahçe have been rivals ever since Trabzonspor's first 'chips decades earlier (most of the fans in the stands probably weren't even alive back then), when these two clubs were the only ones who could compete for the title. Things took a darker turn around 2010/11. The story from TS's side is that FB stole their 'chip by literal matchfixing, and the story from FB's side is that the same group of religious zealots who later attempted the 2016 coup fabricated the case to take their chonky cut of that sweet cash flow. I will not elaborate further on this as I am obviously biased. In 2015, FB's team bus was attacked by a (presumably) lone assailant who targeted the bus driver while the bus was on a bridge going to the airport in Trabzon. If it was an attempt to take down the entire team, the assailant(s) certainly thought ahead about how to use a single shot in the most efficient way possible. There is no arrest made for this attempt even to this day. And frankly, this is a country where no crime of such high profile is simply left alone without even taking some temporary scapegoat into custody only to release them when the news cycle has forgotten about the incident. Which brings us to today, where the unspoken reason of existence for Trabzonspor is to challenge for the title, and if that is not possible, to at least prevent Fenerbahçe from taking the title. This is obviously my biased commentary, but unlike the part above, I think the writing is on the Great Wall of China with Neon Lights when it comes to this one.
@imightbebiased9311
@imightbebiased9311 5 месяцев назад
I feel like all the stuff you mentioned is MUCH needed context. I immediately jumped to the conclusion of, "WTF is up with Trabzonspor?", and then a friend of mine mentioned that there was sooooooo much more background than I could have ever imagined. The role of government butting into the Turkish football is, in my opinion, context that cannot be left out of this because calling that stuff out is the only way this is ever going to change. In 2010/2011 Fenerbahçe wins the league. A player admits to match fixing. The case is taken up by the courts, and then higher courts then decide that the special administrative courts that have decided these cases are illegal, and that they will be taking over. They find that all the Fenerbahçe parties to be completely innocent of any wrongdoing. But the government ALSO asserts that the ONLY reason Fenerbahçe was accused was because the group of insidious rebels that were behind the (following opinion: mine) most sus coup attempt in history where the rebels could have just blown the leader up when they had 2 fighters in the air trailing his plane, and somehow just opted not to fire, the rebels behind that group had infiltrated every aspect of Turkish life, including football. The government effectively said, if you think Fenerbahçe cheated, you're part of a terrorist group. So, Zealand, maybe it's not that they care more, it might just be that sporting teams in Turkey have gotten screwed worse with levels of meddling that go far, far beyond anything we've ever experienced in American sports. All I can say is that this situation, not just this blow-up, is WILD. It deserves a spotlight that goes over everything.

The Referee most likely did not stop the Game as Trabzonspor is affiliated with the Ruling Government while Fenerbahces President is affiliated with the Opposition. Local Elections are 2 Weeks away and Football is so important in Trabzon that an upsetting Decision from the Federation (which is appointed by the Government) would have a major effect on the Outcome of the Election. So yes there were Political Influences on the refereeing. Trabzon itself is however seen as a Major outlier in Turkish Society as their People are closer to Greek and Georgian Culture (they are Laz) and recently there have been major Arab Influences. Footballing Culture and these violent Outbursts on the Side of the Fans though really have nothing to do with Turkish Politics and Society as this type of Behaviour can be traced back to Byzantine Era Chariot Racing. Violence during Sporting Events is the most Anatolian Thing Ever and has not changed even with major societal changes. Politics in Turkey are still crazy though but in a different Way

As a club we are giving the most uefa coefficient points and are in the QF of conference league, just to be treated like this by our own nation fans. Not only did they attack foreign players who are world known but they attacked their own national players who were called up to the team. Ferdi Kadioglu is injured now due to a hit from a fan. Fenerbahce has been dealing with this for years. If you do a quick google stage, our team bus got shot up. ACTUAL GUNS. I hope you read and see this comment. The thing is in most of the Fener matches there were shady calls I would say that are generally in favor of Fener and after many years some officials from Fener kind of admitted doing something. It is a mess actually. And still to this day in official Trabzonspor website they call themselves as the 2011 season champion.😅

For almost 8 or 9 years no derby been played with visitor fans. The last one was between göztepe vs altay in 2023, a second tier match that stopped by an altay fan shooting a flare against göztepe fans an badly injuring one. All things break loose and Turkish officials, like they do all the time in Turkey, completely ignores everything. Man, a Trabzonspor fan shot Fenerbahçe bus with a rifle about ten years ago! Every derby is being played like this in Turkey, and the officials look like they love this!

Well, actually everybody just were expecting something like this to happen but It doesn't make it right at all. As A Turkish guy, I know and I experience the tension between Fenebahce and Trabzonspor and I can say as a Fenerbahce fan that we really hate eachother to death. But I couldn't blame anyone more than the ref and Federation about the incident. They led things to come in a position like this and what happened was really shocking. Yet again I hope, one day we will remember these kind of incidents as a bad moments of the past and we will modernize our league and associated assets.

Z is spot on with his last comment. If you're a player, would you ever want to play in a league where this happens? They need to get this under control or pretty soon no half decent player will even want to play there.

All I want to say about this whole situation is that Fenerbahce is the most secular club in Turkey, and some people don’t like this.. What a coincidence that a lot of influential people in Turkish politics and organized crime are from Trabzon. Coincidence?

I guess you'll never read this (I wouldn't either, too many comments) but I would add that last year a Fiorentina player (Bianco) got his nose broken by a fan in Turkey (I think the team was Basekashir?) at the end of a Conference League match.

I agree with everything you said, until your description of the players celebrating in the middle of the pitch post game. There was obvious tension, the Trabzonspor fans took it as incitement. And it sort of was. I've never seen that in regular season match. Usually, you finish the game, and get down the tunnel, then celebrate. The score was 3-2 , with a Fenerbache 87 minute winner. Batshuayi scoring the winner

Zee, the turks are right, you don't understand. If you finish a match like this and you DON'T want to rush into the field and punch someone, you don't really understand passion for football. That being said, we humans are, or at least should be, rational beings. It is normal to WANT to do this, it is not normal to actually do it, and in that you are absolutely correct. This behavior is unnaceptable.

one crucial thing you missed here was that the first guy attacking the players had a KNIFE with him which IMO makes the reaction of the players incredibly reasonable 10:58

The reason the referee did not send the players off the pitch is clear: This is apparently normal in Turkey.

I think in extreme cases like this, severe points deductions should be considered. I'm talking like 10 or 15 maybe more, this could have been a LOT worse and someone in the stands could easily have had a more dangerous weapon or item, absolutely insane. Either that or ban Trabzonspor fans for a the rest of the season. The punishment needs to be extremely harsh to stamp out this behaviour and set an example. As much as it is a fan issue and maybe the team itself should not be punished, a message needs to be sent to ensure no repeat incidents
