Whats funny is, Murad signed peace treaties with european kingdoms so that he could just retire. Yes, a literal emperor just wanted to let someone else rule the empire. He was super tired, lost a beloved son and was in grief. He just wanted a stress free life in some palace. He gave up the throne after signing peace treaties. Mehmed took his place as a child. (This was the one and only time an ottoman emperor willingly gave up his throne) Then crusade happened, and they didnt respect the peace treaties. Mehmed wrote a letter to his father saying "if I am the sultan, I command you to come and lead my armies. If you are the sultan then come and lead your armies" Murad had no other choice but to ascend the throne a second time and fight the millionth battle of his rule as a very tired and very pissed off old man. If eurooean kingdoms and crusaders respected the treaties, Varna would never happen. And perhaps Constantinople wouldent even fall. Europe literally fucked around and found out.

I couldn't find anything regarding Mehmed's letter. What I heard happened was Mehmed didn't pay the Janissaries their crown gift, and so they were on the verge of revolting before Murad came back. This would also explain why Murad kept the throne until he died in 1451 the second time. I believe Constantinople would still fall. Mehmed, even from a young age, showed interest in conquering Constantinople. That was his goal. After all, that's exactly what he did when he retook the throne.

I mean, if the man were to succeed, he could potentially be crowned the King of Poland, Lithuania, Hungary and Croatia with approval from the Pope himself. While turkish forces probably understood that and always forced crusaders to fight in nonfavorable terrains by constantly retreating.

Let us say that the sultan failed to storm the city, the canons weren’t enough, the defenders managed to keep them off the walls somehow. The city would fall in the next year or the on after. Regarding fate of King Vladislav II's head. There's actually an account of this battle in "Memoirs of a Janissary" written by Konstantin Mihajlović who was a Serb that got drafted into Janissaries and served in Ottoman ranks from 1455 till 1463 when he was captured by Mathias Corvinus. He didn't witness the battle itself but was taught at the Ottoman court that King Vladislav II's head was taxidermied using cotton and aromatic herbs, his hair was finely combed and in such state, on top of a pole, the head was carried through major cities in Turkey, and for few years afterwards all of sultan's court servants wore one black and one red boot, for such was the color of boots king Vladislav 2nd wore.

Être fort comme un Turc ('to be strong like a turk'): This expression originates in the 15th century when the Turks had a reputation for being strong, almost unbeatable warriors due to their numerous victories. At the time, the Ottoman Empire ruled large parts of south-east Europe, north Africa and western Asia. It is said that François I, King of France, was gifted Turkish armour by Suleiman the Magnificent (the tenth and most famous sultan of the Ottoman Empire) during their alliance. When he wore it, he is said to have exclaimed: "Here I am now, strong as a Turk!" THE TURKS AND THE WEST from 11 days. Europe stood in awe of the Ottomans who crushed many states and conquered vast territories, going, as all patriotic Turks will proudly point out, "all the way to the gates of Vienna." European literature is replete with the depictions of the Turk as the hated enemy. The English often thought of the Turk as awe-inspiring and destructive. Thomas Fuller wrote in The Holy Warre (1639): "The Turkish Empire is the greatest... the sun ever saw. ...Grass springeth not where the grand signior's horse setteth his foot."
