This year’s Turkey season had some highs and some lows, but ultimately, I had a wonderful time in the woods with some historic gear and my Scott & Son Side-by-side antique muzzleloading shotgun.

Loved this video, really enjoyed it. Kept hoping you would get that turkey. I love turkey hunting done it for many years, although never with a muzzleloader or traditional gear. Thought your tactics were good, sometimes they just won’t around the corner those last few yards, part of the game, very unpredictable birds. Only thing you may have done differently is once he’s coming in stop calling, we have a tendency to over call, he knows where you’re at. Give him the silent treatment let him come to you once he’s close. However, no guarantee that would have worked either! Just my two cents! Great video and great hunt!

I enjoyed the video. In this era of plenty, hunting is more about getting out into nature than anything else. If you happen to bag game that's great but it's not the entirety of the experience. Ohhh, that cap snap was disheartening. Those new fangled percussion guns will never catch on...🤣 Two tips on the hunting, when he's gobbling to your calls and coming he knows exactly where you are, too much calling too close scared those Toms. Shut up and let him come search for you, maybe do some scratching in the leaves next to you at most. At 10 yards don't move a muscle! Second, cover your hands. Soft brown cotton gloves, or smear mud on them if you have too, but that's a lot of pale skin flashing movement for a wise old turkey. But a great video and a fun hunt!

You know they had slate calls back then too. just use a piece of slate cupped in your hand. With wingbone it's good to call them in from distance then you shut up and let them look for you maybe scratch the ground to entice them in a little closer. The other thing when you spook them give them 45min and change spots and try again. They think that thing scared the hen also as long as they don't know you were the one making the hen noises.

But I enjoyed it just as much as you did being out there and I'm sure some of our forefathers had the same type of experience that you had of no luck this time but then also they didn't have to wait for a hunting season because then hunting season was in everyday as far as they were concerned. Drop a little powder in your nipples before capping them, help with ignition You need to take a call too that will produce a whines. That will sometimes bring in a Tom that is is hung up just out of range. An old timers trick is if you have a Tom that is hung up fairly close to max range, wait till he is facing you, and shoot over his head, and a lot of times he will fly straight to you. I’m just not sure how much leeway you have with a muzzleloader shotgun using that trick though
