No problem.. it's truly a passion both hunting and making pot calls .. nothing like hearing the bird gobbling with something you make yourself.. Are you going to turn calls or are you just putting together pots already made

No problem... when I first started out there wasn't real good video's on here.. I struggled.. just remember take lots of notes and change 1 spec at a time.. Get your spacing between the striking surface and soundboard right.. get the sound chamber right (from the striking surface to bottom of the inside of call and outside diameter of pedestal) and your pedestal diameter good.. those are the most important and keep sound holes away from the outside wall at the least 1/4 away.. Last but not least let the glue dry before you try.. 24hrs min

Awesome, I mainly stick with 3in calls and use an expanded mandrel..the problem I have is when the call is thinned out there's not much for it to grab and can get wobbly..I guess I should invest in that bowl chuck..

I started out with a small Cole chuck jaws from nova.. then have 3 different chucks dedicated to hold for different steps when I make them

I do it the same way basically just a bit different jaws for the first step in making them round

I’m starting out an found you tips useful, using some oak I’ve had laying around an starting to run out, was wondering if you could lead me in a direction of getting blanks besides the normal wood found at the sawmills in Mississippi

Sure.. you can check Bell Forest. Com Ebay also searches on the web turkey pot call blanks You want at the least thickness of 15/16 anything under that is not good.. as a pot call is usually around 13/16 to 7/8 thickness I like mine to be around 1in thick but not necessary Stick with 1 wood type till you have that wood figured out (the sound you want) remember to take lots of notes and make 1 change at a time.. You can also buy wood by the board foot and usually get about 6-9 calls out of it.. and cheaper I'm here to help as much as I can

nice video. i didn't see you glue in a sound board under the main surface. do you glue one in the call on that pedistal?

Which model rikon lathe is that and what two chucks are those? Nice work by the way.

Rikon is a 70-105 And I use a nova chuck have 3 of them and 1 barracuda chuck All chucks are setup to hold my pots different ways.. it's not necessary but makes life easier..
