Thanks ReviloNZ. The fireplace was great. Some huts it feels like it takes hours for the fire to start warming the hut. Thus had the hut cozy in about 10 minutes.
Holy crap! Thats a big mission! I guess you could have broken it up a bit by staying at Hidden hut? That hut book is a museum piece! The wee biv looks perfect with the fire. I'm so impressed! Thanks for sharing. 👍
Thanks Dave. We're pleased you found some of the information useful. Tramping with mates is always awesome, although sometimes the logistics of lining up weekends when we are both free is a bit difficult
I agree it was a hard slog to do it in 2 days! We never noticed the waratah near the tiny stream crossing to the biv so dropped down, then climbed up a bit to the biv. It was fine.
@@samandkevsoutdooradventures I remember doing a big loop in the Raglan Range a few years back. Near your trip I think? Most off track. Bloody steep country, but I would rate it second best to my home turf of Aspiring National Park. I’m looking forward to catching up on your old vids @ upcoming ones.
@@samandkevsoutdooradventures did loop from Rainbow road up to the tarn and over saddle into Upper Misery Hut. Down Misery Creek, hung a right up to Branch Biv & then up & over saddle to drop into Lee Hut and then out to Rainbow Rd
Hi there. Great video! And great channel! Question about access for this trip - can you drive there from the Murchison / St Arnaud side or only from Blenheim? For whatever reason Google Maps is adamant access from St Arnaud is on foot only. We'd be coming from Chch and would prefer to go via Murchison
Some previous visitors to Turkeys Nest are a bit taller than you guys! Do you think it would be quicker doing the climb from Boulder stream because you don't have all that up and down on the ridge route?
Hard to say, probably slightly quicker going up the fence line from Boulder Stream. We did find entering and exiting Boulder Stream was a bit of a challenge. We entered via a small side stream and exited with a bush bash through some bracken.
Awesome, Turkey's Nest and Hidden hut are on my list to visit when we shift down to Nelson so it's great to see them via you. Do you do anything for fitness besides tramping? I know I am not up to a big hike like that yet. Did 6hrs hunting yesterday and I am shattered..
Hi Shane. It’s rare that we do such long days. 6-7 hrs is much more a typical ‘long day’. Just general fitness for me (sam). A bit of jogging etc but nothing too crazy. Kev would be much the same. It’s always easier to keep going when you love huts!
