I recently took a Business Class flight on one of Turkish Airlines' A350-900s from Istanbul to Chicago. Come along with me to see everything I experienced, including the cabin layout, the pod and seat, food, amenities, inflight entertainment, and more. Also, stick around until the end of the video to learn how much I paid for my flight.

I flew business class round trip Chicago to Istanbul a couple years ago. It was fantastic in every respect, especially the wonderful cabin crew and amazing catering. The seat area was very comfortable and secluded. I highly recommend Turkish Airlines.

Heres something off topic that you may find interesting. :) The name of my country has nothing to do with the interesting and delicious bird 'turkey'...... .....but the name of the bird does have a connection with the name of my country, let me explain. :) In the past 40 years 37 countries have changed their name, partially or fully. Obviously one can not change the name of an apple or an orange etc in other languages, but country names are like peoples' individual names, so if you're named John we don't call you Karen. :) Name of my country has always been Türkiye, it's been known as such since around the 1200's. The name it self has a suffix, '-iye', that is Turk-iye, where the -iye suffix means 'land of/belonging to', just like the Latin suffix of '-ia', which exists in such country names like Austr-ia, Austral-ia, Indones-ia etc. Basically, the use of '-iye/-ia' is the same as the the use of '-land' suffix in country names like Ire(Eire)-land, Po(le)-land, Eng(Anglo)-land and so on and so on. Many would remember the country Czechoslovak-ia which changed it's name to Czech Republic and a few years ago changed that to Czechia (that is Czech-ia). The Latin suffix -ia probably originates from Turkish -iye as Turkish been over 10,000 years is much older than Latin which is around 1300 years old. Spelled in different languages in different ways to phonetically resemble (to sound like) 'Türkiye' we got various spellings like; Turq-uía (in Spanish), Turch-ia (in Italian), Turq-uie (in French) Turk-ei (in German) Turk-ey (in English) Mind you this was way before the animal we currently know as turkey was found by the europeans when they explored the north americas. The bird was first sent to europe from north americas in the year 1519, so up until that point there was no bird named turkey.... ...they came across the bird and thought it was a specie of the fowl/chicken they had been buying from the country of Turkiye at the time, so they named the bird 'Turkey Fowl' to define 'Turkish Chicken'... ....just like how a dog breed is known as German Shepherd (because it's from Germany), American Bulldog, British Terrier, Greek Harehound etc etc. In time you don't get to call the harehound simply as Greek or you don't call the terrier Britirsh, or shepherd as simply German, but in time the Turkish Fowl started to be called just 'Turkey' and later 'turkey', and this went on for hundreds of years. Now in modern times, this caused confusion, especially when we have people across the world unable to point to their own country on an atlas. Basically we didn't change the name of our country, we changed the mistake made in the English language. : ) So, there's some tid bit information for you to have a great day, if you read upto this point you have a great night too, ohh just have a wonderfull life. : ) Best wishes. ;)

Hi there! Here is a few tips about the meal that you had. On the appetizers plate the one on the righr side is "sigara böreği"(1on1 translation is cigar pastry) which is stuffed and rolled thin slice of dough fried in veggie oil. As far as I understand from your dessert plate the one creamy one on the left is "un helvası" means flour halva which made with flour, sugar, butter and sometimes milk.... I just wanted to let you know as soon as I hear you asked them on your video. Have a great next trip! Cheers from Istanbul

Mel, rest assured, I too would have gone to the airport 4 hours early to visit the lounge. I think you're an avgeek at heart. There are certainly worse places to spend your time then in the premium lounges at different airports around the world. What stands out to me about your flight is that the last 3 Turkish business class reviews I've seen now, including yours, have mentioned a lack of friendliness from the cabin crew, with the other two wording it a bit more strongly than you did. One review I wouldn't notice, two, I make a mental note, three? and now it's a trend. Aside from the lack of congeniality from the crew, it seemed like a perfectly fine business class experience.

I'm glad I'm not alone in my love of all things aviation! 😅😂 Yes, I felt bad saying it but sadly, they were not as friendly as the flight attendants I usually encounter. Always enjoy your videos. Call me crazy, but I actually liked the 777 seats more than the 787. More leg room. We were two, so I didn’t mind the lack of separation between seats. Our layover was so long we were eligible for a room with bed inside the lounge! One of our flights was a late night departure. After takeoff the cabin crew did turndown to the whole cabin all at once. It was an awkward and disruptive ordeal with many passengers standing trying to get out of the way. That was the only weird moment. Otherwise TK was a very nice experience! 31.5k from KUL to NAP, and another 31.5k from VIE to SEA. So sad it’s hard to impossible to get those deals anymore. ✈️🌍
@MelsMilesandPoints
@MelsMilesandPoints Месяц назад
The universal turndown service does sound awkward 😂, but I'm sure the rest of the experience made up for it, right? Glad you qualified for a sleeping room. Do you remember how long your layover was? I am flying Turkish again in October and will have an all night layover. I read that if your layover is over 9 hours, you can't get a sleeping room (seems strange to me since that's when you would most need a room). I have reserved a room at the airport Yotel just in case for now, but would love to know how strict they are about that. I might be crazy, but I'm kind of looking forward to spending the whole night at the airport 😅

@marcusyoung5440 Месяц назад
@@MelsMilesandPoints That is strange. Our flight was 18 months ago, so hopefully my memory is not too fuzzy. I remember our layover being between 8-9 hours. I remember rushing to the lounge and going straight to that reservation desk. I had a hunch the rooms were in demand. We got the last one, and the wait for the next one can be hours. The bed sleeps one btw. It took me my second visit to your lounge to get over being intimidated by the size, and start enjoying being there discovering the variety of food. Enjoy your next visit!

DOCO's shareholders/founders are of TR origin and the DO possibly is the abbreviation for Doğudan, their last name.

love your reviews you show every detail all products and whatever you eat I really appreciate one more thing even last time I asked it because it was interesting for me that much you lost for Iberia flight its good to know just in case If i decide to fly with them I want to know how much money I am going to loose just in case ? by the way I love Turkish cart service you can see the food and choose it maybe it was hard for you since you weren't familiar with Turkish food

I paid 50,000 points for the Iberia flight. And they have been very difficult about providing fair compensation. About the trolley cart, I definitely get the feeling everyone but me loves it haha. I was unfamiliar with the options and I'm also very indecisive 😂

@@MelsMilesandPoints ok now I got it let me tell you something airlines when they over book they always kick people who didnt pay cash for the flights or miles and cash but after that they have to return the mile and also cash but remember points upgrades are not guaranteed specially with European carriers another airline you must avoid is tap portugal I had nightmare with them even in business class
@MelsMilesandPoints
@MelsMilesandPoints Месяц назад
@@robertgonzales3936 I agree with you, but I think Iberia bumps people with cash flights too because I met a couple who had also been bumped and had paid cash. Iberia then just make it so hard to get compensation that most people give up. Thanks for the heads up about TAP. I've heard that before, so maybe I will just try to avoid them too 😅

@@MelsMilesandPoints with the cash it happens but usually the chance is lower also one question how was Turkish crew were they friendly?
@MelsMilesandPoints
@MelsMilesandPoints Месяц назад
@@robertgonzales3936 honestly, not overly friendly. They weren't rude and the service itself was good, but they were definitely more serious than friendly. I am flying Turkish again in October, so it'll give me a chance to see if this was typical or an anomaly. :)

I am only able to because of being able to pay with points, and I know how lucky I am to be able to. I hope you get to experience it soon too 🤞(maybe you can look into earning points)!

Did Turkish pay for your ticket?
@MelsMilesandPoints
@MelsMilesandPoints Месяц назад
At first I thought you were talking about Iberia who downgraded me, but I just realized that you're talking about my Turkish Airline's flight haha. No they did not pay for my flight in any way, and they didn't know I was reviewing. I always pay for my own travel (either cash or points) in an effort to be truly objective. Hope this clarifies things! :)

There ground staff are the rudest you can imagine, but staff on planes travelling to north america are great

The flight attendants on my flight were helpful and definitely not rude, but they also weren't as friendly as I'm used to. But I'm guessing that probably varies depending on the particular flight you happen to be on.
