This wonderfully powerful piece was transcribed for the lever harp by Turkish harpist Sirin Pancaroğlu as part of 'The Turkish Harp', a project which aims to bring Turkish music to a wider audience.
The composer Katip Çelebi (1609-1657) was a famous scientist who lived in the seventeenth century. It is often suggested that the twenty-seven works credited to him may actually belong to a more modern composer based on the fact that his opus seems ahead of the period in which he lived.
This piece has an ABCBDBEB shape and features the expected four parts, each concluding with the teslim. The piece features melodies associated with the lyrical aspects of the nihavend makam and a frequent use of the intervals of second, creating boldness.
The score (and many more pieces from the project) can be purchased from 80 Days Music Publishing: 80dayspublishi...

Dear Tamsin, What a great idea to discover the riches of Turkish music through this superb transcription. It is a very rich work, and your "magical" interpretation once again leaves me dreaming. No style of music seems to resist you, and you assimilate all its essence with this talent that I love so much in your interpretation. Bravo, and thank you for this musical moment so pleasant. Musical friendships, and very beautiful Sunday to you, Phil
