You can use IFTTT for this. If the vehicle exits a perimeter around your property it can send a txt message. I had this setup so that when my wife left work for home, I got an alert so I knew to have her dinner ready for her when she arrived.

Leaving the phone on a constant circuit will work but there is some cons to it. Leaving your phone constant charge cycle will degrade the phone battery much faster. Once your battery is beyond holding a charge the phone will have to be manually turned on. If you put your phone an "ignition run wire" the battery should last long enough to stay on while the car is off unless it is off for a very long period of time. Factory reset your tracker phone and remove all bloat ware and disable any unnecessary other apps like clock, calculator or news apps. Only allow the bare minimum to reduce battery drainage, also turn your screen brightness almost off until you need to look at it. This should help your phones standby time last for days. Plenty of time to find your car.

@@leolego2 Agreed if your not using the screen and you disable or remove all non useful app's for a bare minimum build your phone should last for days on a signal charge allowing you to place it on a "ignition run wire" so the battery will have some drain before you start charging it again.

Yes, you will need to find a data only sim card as the video stated. Your phone will not use much of the data to report it's GPS location.

Don't put it in your car, put it under your car in a sealed container or space with no walls in direct sunlight. Also stay away from the exhaust and engine.

I absolutely agree with you. The thieves who stole my ride recently pulled all the leads to the fuse box. It’s best to find a constant on inside a panel somewhere they won’t waste time looking for, and connect your inline fuse from there-if you even need a fuse.

You would ether have to pay a monthly fee for live tracking OR you would have to retrieve the tracker to see were it has been. This method you will pay for a cellular sim card but only pay for the data you use witch isn't much at all for live tracking.

It's not cheap because the monthly fees on a lot of them are insane. Plus this way you can add features easily.

it does not, very low power.

Factory reset the phone, remove or disable all unneeded apps and reduce screen timer to minimum as well as dropping screen brightness to almost nothing.

Does the 12v lighter socket work when the car is turned off?

Yes you can do that. It would not be very hidden from would be thief's but if you don't care about that it would work.
