This was legitimately helpful and informative. I cannot express enough how much I like your delivery / methodology. Short intro to introduce the premise of the video, brief explanation on x or Y and then directly into clear instructions. There isn't 20 minutes of pontification or self aggrandizing intro. Straight forward delivery of information followed by instruction. You sir, are a fantastic person whom I wish happiness and success upon.
I've been speaking English my whole life and I've never read or heard of 'aggrandizing' before lol. It's useful here though after seeing the definition.
@@RyanxDunn Aggrandizing yourself is all about making yourself look bigger than you are, self-worth promotion, often for the purpose of profit or self-esteem to achieve a higher position or standing! Not sure why you have never come across this word, it's pretty well-known to English people! You could always Google it!
@@michaelhawkins7389 My guess is that you have OneDrive or another cloud storage solution and the windows option to automatically download files from cloud sources when an app calls for them. Settings > App Permissions > Automatic File Downloads.
You forgot a very important one, which is critical for security: 1. Right Click on Start Menu, select Explorer. 2. On the top of the Explorer window which is opened, select "View" 3. Towards the right of the window you'll now see three checkboxes. One of them is labelled "file extensions". Enable it. (if you don't see the checkboxes you may need to resize the window until it shows up) By the way, below that you see "Hidden Items". You may also enable those. Though I would only recommend this to more experienced users. Otherwise: This will show you folders and files you have never seen before. They may look strange to you. But PLEASE don't just delete them because they look scary. They are (in all likelihood) NOT VIRUSES! You might mess up your system by deleting or changing them. Better ask someone you know who knows more about Windows before you touch any of them.
Explorer from the "Start Menu"? I don't think that is possible to open Explorer there. Only by typing into "start" field what is bit uncomfortable... Much easier is simply to click the "My Computer" (or if You have any folder shortcut on your desktop). Anyway... yes. Enabling file extensions is first what is needed to do. And nod bc of security only.
@@BeyondAnimation Oh but its hidden on what exactly it sends. Dont forget to check these settings every week or so because windows update loves to reenable them.
@@BeyondAnimation It may not be "hidden" as such, but it has all been moved around under different headings to make guides like this (for windows 10) much harder to follow on Win 11.
Great video! I went through all the points and was pleased to see that I'd already turned off most of the ones pointed out but there were some I'd missed!
Simply one of the most useful videos I've ever watched on RU-vid - no hyperbole - I hadn't even considered 90% of your supremely sensible suggestions - subscribed of course!!!
@@elderstray5830 in my opinion win11 is actually okay, i like it more than windows 10 especially since win11 now has got some windows 10 features again that were missing on launch (like clock on second monitor)
@@elderstray5830 not sure if it's a windows thing but when I installed an update coincidently my cpu started overheating on startup every time I fresh boot up my pc. Could be my cpu aio even though it's new but after a few restarts it goes back to normal which isn't normal
@@Corzafade If you upgraded to windows 11, it's probably that. I reset my pc entirely, wiped the actual system partition when I ran the installer, it was really bad, and slow. But the reset worked Just maybe don't wipe the partition, probably some computers and laptops act differently to that
Dude, I've been a tech since my college days in the mid 2000's and I feel like a numbskull for not knowing this setting. Thanks so much for helping me continuing to learn.
Found your site, it was definitely very helpful, love your style, no NASA, WALL STREE OR INTEL scripts, just speak to the people (We habla English); with your experience you need to put together a video on how to stop permanently those pesky "POPUPS". Thank you for a very well conducted and organized class, hope you make more of these!!
I am not computer savvy at all. But I have to say this was one of the best and most concise tutorials I've seen. Right to the point. I was able to follow it all and do everything. thanks! I've subbed!
Absolutely fantastic information! For novices like myself, you give step by step ways to change settings with PICTURES to show where to go. (I'm a visual person). THANK YOU!
there a some other channels on YT showing how to "debloat" Windows or how to install a "clean" Windows, for instance "Chris Titus Tech", "JayzTwoCents" or "Nico Knows Tech" as my favorite channels
Thanks for making, yet another, brilliant video tutorial! I followed all of your suggestions. Fortunately, I had already changed most of them, but there were still a couple that needed tweaking.
Some of these options you can turn them off when you do a clean install of Windows. Very informative video for people who don't know about this. Simple and basic things to get the best experience with Windows.
I updated from 10 to 11 so I'm going to see which of these changes i'll be able to change. These videos are always so useful and really informative, cutting straight to the point, thanks.
I saw a video from Rob Braxman who did a privacy analysis on Win 11 compared to Win 10, and he found Win 11 actually IMPROVES privacy options, and digital privacy is Braxman's thing.
@@bm_wuratli6883 I'm having a hard time following what you're trying to say. Are you using a translator to go to English? If so, I think it's mistranslating some of your words. (eg "cod caldera"? cod is a type of fish, and a caldera is a type of volcanic crater.) If English is not your main language and you're not using a translator, try running what you said through a translator back to your main language just to double check you're saying what you meant to say.
@@bm_wuratli6883 Ah, I've never played Call of Duty. However, if you'd done some sort of capitalization of that abbreviation, I'd have picked up on it being an acronym even if I didn't recognize what it was an acronym of. Especially when the acronym is also a common word it could easily be mistaken for. Ie cod (species of fish) vs CoD or COD (obvious acronym for something else - in this case Call of Duty).
I am a PC Lead Systems Engineer and MS MVP, and did not know until after watching your video that MS had switched on 'Online Speech Recognition' (they must have done it on an update). Thank you!
I really like your video's, I am no programmer but I am not ignorant of IT either so I really like your settings review and explanations. So much of this stuff is "hidden" under multiple layers that I would never find it so thank you
Thanks! I spend most of my time in the deep end of the Windows pool, (messing around with obscure services and such) that I sometimes forget to look at these simple settings. I'd recently done a fresh build of Win 10, and foolishly let it run for a few weeks without remembering to even look! Why the heck is "Groove Music" "X-Box" and other nonsense software allowed to do anything, ever? There were several other items I discovered which needed turning off. Thanks again!
This was so helpful! Thank you! I thought I had changed a lot of these settings previously but maybe I missed them. Also, would love to see a video about unnecessary services and other apps that are guilty of excessive power consumption on windows 10 laptops. For instance, after a lot of searching, I discovered that the service that controls my RGB laptop keyboard unnecessarily eats a ton of battery power. Disabling it drastically increased battery time. Or there's the bonjour service, which is only for interfacing with apple products. And things like phone services if you don't want your PC to connect to your phone. Would love more info on determining what's hogging all your power and what's safe to disable.
Brilliant video. I already automatically adjust my privacy settings when I get a new computer, but didn't know about the other stuff, esp how to turn off background apps and the manufacturers add-ons. Thanks!
As soon as I get my new laptop, one of the first things I do is stop access to the camera. Every week or so, I get a message from Windows asking me to turn it back on. Keep making videos like this. More for Windows 11 would be great.
As a mac user who recently installed windows 10 via bootcamp, this video has been invaluable! Thank you for going through all of these settings step by step! F*** all those "Suggestions" especially the Start menu website suggestions! Cheers from ireland Liron, You've helped me get that filthy intrusion off my workspace. :D
I got a 09 Mac Pro, twin Xeons, 48GB ram, four 1TB WD black HDDs and 1gig Radeon a few years ago for free. Never a big Mac fan though and my programs are all windows...First I installed win 7 through bootcamp on a separate drive. Then I upgraded 7 to 10 and it got rid of bootcamp and runs exclusively on win 10 now. Then I reformatted the other drives. My daughter uses it now as I got me a little 3080 rig to play with.
Very helpful! There are so many settings to adjust that I sometimes forget to change them when I install a new OS or re-install one after reformatting the hard drive (something I do almost every year, or after I've had a really serious problem such as a virus that gets past my antivirus program). Thanks!
Your videos are superb. They ae straightforward to understand and your step by step instructions are so helpful. Your channel is the best on you tube. Thank you, Sir.
Whoaw thanks so much I have been so frustrated with my computer being so slow, I have followed every step in your video and now my computer works fast. 👏
I have been using Linux for so long that I know nothing about Windows. I'm learning new stuff and using Windows was a longer learning curve than I expected. Checking settings now.
Just subscribed and am enjoying your excellent videos. Microsoft is just relentless in data mining its users now. I want to add another quick tip: In Privacy Settings turn OFF all Voice Activation settings (it keeps your microphone on all the time). And, basically, if you do not absolutely need any settings turned on in the Privacy Settings tab, turn them ALL off!
This is a big help HOWEVER. My new PC came with Windows 11. Some of these setting swill not show even in a search. For example the background apps. I searched for Apps, Background, Privacy... This setting is not in any of the lists. For the most part I could find much if the items in this list. EDIT UPDATE found how Settings > Apps & Features > (click the vertical dots on the chosen app)> Advanced > Background Apps permission [drop down] > (pick your preference)
Liron i subscribe! i've had the weirdest experiences while talking on the phone with my doctor, and just by saying stuff like "wheelchair" i start getting commercials regarding wheelchairs. The reason it struck me is that i don't use one, i never have, and i never looked for one online. I suffer from neurosis and on the phone my doctor simply suggested that i try one to which i replied "i don't need a 'explicit' wheelchair! The very next day i started getting commercials from stores selling them. -This really should be illegal ! Thx for showing.
I already know to do these things but im glad you put this video out there, almost everybody owns a pc these days however most people dont truly know how to properly run their OS.
This is my 3rd or 4th video of Liron's within this week and after viewing this one here, I realized that I might as well give his channel a new SUBSCRIBE lol! 😄👍
xD I remember when people were up in arms about Windows indexing stuff in the background for search. Oh how the turn tables. Great video! I have become a lazy person with this stuff but I was glad to notice I've turned all that voice stuff off.
This is an extremely educational and helpful video! It's much easier for me now that i dont have to think that i have a virus in my pc just because my calculators spending my data.
Just found your tips n techniques... Fantastic stuff. As Ann advanced workstation user, I didn't realize all of the stuff M-Soft was turning on to make my PC life "better"... Thank you.
Loved this video. It was quick and easy, to the point. Earn a sub here. Also I had most of these already done up but there is always something new to find out about the windows environment. You can never stop learning about the features, even for the advanced users out there.
This is very basic steps after fresh system install. I reccomend also setting internet connection as payed (not sure about english word) - windows update wont download updates, but show us if there are some new one, and WE decides to download them or not (bundled).
😁👍👍 - Great tips LS! I used to have Fast Boot enabled but found out long ago that it's a huge resource hog so turned it off. Yeah, it's nice to be able to reboot to the exact same place if the computer crashes or power is lost, but really not worth it overall. Cheers from Thailand!
I've only just discovered your videos and becoming more knowledgable about my very own computer every day is something I feel very strongly about. So thank you for your extremely informative, straight-to-the-point, plus lightly humorous content.
