It’s wild that the IPad Pro uses USB-C and this dock doesn’t even allow for one USB-C port for external use. The only two USB-C ports are for pass-through charging and connecting the iPad to this dock. This was a large oversight to the future use of the iPad accessory and other USB-C applications.
I've been thinking the same thing. I understand having one USB-A port but come on. Two USB-A ports is redundant and archaic on such a modern design. The worst part is that they'll update it to be how it should but by then you'll be forced to by this version. The only thing that I can think of to justify this is trying to avoid a power overload/overheating of some sort. Other than that, they have room to grow.
Cool, Thanks! I have good experiences with Anker. My hub for my M1 Air is an Anker and works perfectly. Only if it had 2 USB-c ports you could use it for tethering to the iPad with a camera.
I really enjoyed your very high quality video. I have never seen so much gear on one desk - wow! Your explanation about Stage Manager is spot on. Trust Apple to do something more than just clamshell mirroring. Your comments about the Anker stand /dock convinced me to buy that product. I am very happy with the Anker dock save one complaint. The USB-C ports are slightly too big. As such the USB-C cables don’t seat tightly - wiggly. One other point, these manufactures need to make the stand rests bigger to fully accommodate a case on the iPads. I like to just grab my iPad and go. I certainly wont take iPad out of it’s case to place it in the stand. Fortunately the Anker accommodates my iPad and Logitech case barely.
@@Kyru4712 NO! It says a lot about either Anker’s CFO that they would choose to accommodate cheaper iPad’s with no magnets when designing this product in that they’d rather sell more unit’s than accommodate their prime audience, those with the money to buy such a hub on top of the iPad Pro and a Magic Keyboard. This product could be almost Apple-esque, it isn’t sub par but I’m looking for an eagle, or at least a birdie, not par. Right now I may as well stick with the Magic Keyboard and separate dock.
Michael, I've been hanging out for a few years to hear how the ipad pro works with Fusion 360 in the way you're doing Photoshop there with the pencil. Someone did do an inspiring piece with really fancy but expensive Wacom gear but surely the Apple pencil would have most of the functionality that was demonstrated.
Awesome dock. The issue is iPadOS. All those attached drives don’t need to copy files to your Mac to use Lightroom. They get referenced. Copy requirement of iPad is a deal breaking limitation.
What keyboard did you use for this? I’ve heard it needs to have a dongle to activate the secondary display. However I’d like yo use Bluetooth if possible
It basically has the same functionality as a regular Thunderbolt 4 dock, where is the Tb4 port on iPad is plugged in. yet it doesn’t have a keyboard. I just go with the Magic Keyboard plus a regular tb4 dock.
Noticed you were “cleaning up your headshot” at the end of the video. Affinity Photo has become probably the best photo touch up app on the iPad. As-good, if not better than Photoshop.
Spectacular video production and thumbnail; pace and tempo was easy to follow... Great work, I definitely subscribed to your channel now I gotta go get this dock! 😎⚡️🎯🤘🏾
Ok ok, anker made a good product here but if anyone in Anker is watching. Can you make a slightly thinner but wider version with magnets to attach iPad please?? It’s base angle is perfect for artists to lean on but with how thin the stand width is atm, leaning on it slightly is not practical. It pops out the stand. It wouldn’t impact its current market or how it’s used either, just adds the stability required for digital artists to also buy it, win win, Pleeeaase
Great video man!! Planning to upgrade my iPad Pro to an M1 iPad for the additional M1 ipadOS 16 features. Will definitely consider it. I do all RU-vid work on my iPad:). Thanks for the review :)
This is incredible stuff! I've been thinking about picking up an ipad just to dip my toes in the apple ecosystem and it looks like now might be a good time.
Hi, congratulations for your video, it was amazing. Will separate Stage Manager function work only with cable connection or would it be possible on Air Play compatible smart monitors and television?
How do you make this?? In my ipad pro display setings doesnt show the displays and the functions that you showed in the video… o-o i just can mirroring displays, ands i have a mouse and kayboard conected in the ipad
Would an M2 iPad Air also have full functionality via its non-Thunderbolt USB-C port? And I agree with the others who are saying at least one, if not both, of the USB-A ports should have been USB-C. All my old USB-A devices already have a female-USB-A-to-male-USB-C adapter on them already. I'd rather not also have to carry female-USB-C-to-male-USB-A adapters for my USB-C devices. Tthis is a relatively minor problem, though, when compared to the bigger problem of iPads having only one USB-C port on them; iPad Pros really should have 2, 3, or even four ports on them, IMO.
Thank you Michael, you've got an incredible workstation, your presentation was easy to understand well laid out. Can you recommend a good keyboard that connects to the IPad Pro 12.9 inch I just purchased? I need the Anker Hub because of all the needed ports and connections. I hope you see this question so I can get a keyboard on order as soon as possible.Thank you, the video was a lot of fun to watch.
Honestly iPad is a great computer for most people. I wouldn’t recommend a PC or Mac to anyone really just because of how complicated computers are. You need to understand the finder system. You need to tell the computer where to install your apps and where to install the content of the apps. You need to install an uninstaller app to help you remove apps if you simply want to free space. Not every feature is inside of an app. Like if you simply want to refresh your Mail, there’s no refresh button in the Apple mail app for mac. You have to right mouse click the Mail app icon and click on “Get new Mail” ughghhgghghghghgh. iPad is very simple. I hate computers. iPad is great.
Is there any other reason my iPad Pro 5th only mirroring on my external Monitor? it has been upgraded to 16.1 and connected Logitech bluetooth keyboard and mouse though….
Looks amazing. So is it magnetic to support iPad while drawing on unstable surfaces? Is there a version or another option with internal mount for nVFme?
Well as of today the new M2 iPads pro are out for order let’s see if the reviews will help or sink it there are a few things missing I hope you able to review it and give an opinion about it. Thank you. JoP
That was helpful, thanks! If you traveled a lot and wanted to bring a good keyboard and monitor along w the ipad and this hub, which keyboard and monitor would you bring (I don't mind packing a 19-22" monitor regarding size)
Based on your comments I have just ordered one from Amazon - they are now on sale at $65 - using the link you provided above. I will be connecting keyboard, mouse and SSD drive to the dock. Do you think a 65W wall charger will be powerful enough? The Amazon Basics one is $20. Thanks for such an interesting video and yes I have just subscribed.
Great video mate. What generation of iPad Pro is it? And what size? Is the headphone port compatible with headphones that have a mic? I have an iPad Pro 12.9” 5th gen m1. I want to be able to charge my ipad and use wired gaming headphones at the same time. I’ve found nothing that states it does what I want on Amazon. And some even say “ not compatible with m1 iPad pro “ some even state they don’t work specifically with the 12.9” version even though it’s just a plug in hub and not a stand. Hope you can help.
Hi Michael, Thanks for the video. I’m a dj and I want to know if it’s possible to hook up a Nuc mini pc through the hdmi port of the anker and then from the anker to an IPad 6th generation. I do not want to buy a 12 inch portable monitor just for that. I think that I can take davantage of my ipad when I do not DJ as a main work station to go on internet, use Word, work on Canva. I do not run any softwares on my Ipad. I just wanna run Reckorbox from my Nuc and display It on my ipad. Thanks Julio😊
It doesn’t turn an iPad to a Mac, as long as I can’t install all programs on the iPad. For example, there’s no slicer program available for iPads to make files for my 3D printer.
Why would it? It’s a Tablet. One hell of a Tablet. People want it to be something it is not designed to be. An iPad is simply too good for itself. 😁 One day there will be a hybrid but no one will be getting said hybrid for anywhere near iPad pricing.
@@jmbosquesillo7203 Did you read the title of the video? My post referred to that. But I believe that in 5 years or so pcs or tablets will be the same.
it sounds great - but you still have the stupid file system of the iPad and all the other problems because Apple does not want to create a competitor for their MacBooks.
**very desperate here:** I’m looking for a USB-C switcher that allows me to connect my USB-C EarPods to both my Mac Mini (for WhatsApp/Zoom calls) and my Pixel 7 Pro (for cellular calls). Here are the specifics of my setup: **Mac Mini:** Running macOS Ventura, primarily used for WhatsApp and Zoom calls. Pixel 7 Pro: Running Android 13, used for regular cellular phone calls. **USB-C EarPods:** Standard USB-C EarPods with built-in microphone. **Requirements:** The switcher should support seamless switching between devices without needing to unplug and replug the EarPods. It should also maintain audio quality and microphone functionality across both devices. Does anyone know of a USB-C switcher that can handle this setup?
IF only apple would break town and go to one unified OS that works on both systems.... and let you either do your work on your full blown laptop or your iPad if you want/need that touch screen experience....
I like this a lot but a 100w charger from anger is going to cost you another ton so that makes this 2ton for this to be workable, not a cost effective solution.
