Soak the paper longer. Don't use junk mail or glossy paper. And mix the paper into pulp...

Actually, if they soaked the paper for a few days--long enough for the binders to dissolve and the fibers to separate--the logs would have been considerably denser, and would burn longer, as they could then be compressed far better. Half-assed reporting, half-assed results...take the time to do it right, you get better results. Like anything else, really.

You could pour molten candle wax on the paper logs after they dry and they should light right up.

Burning time of a paper: 10 secs. Burning time of a paper log: 30+ minutes. Would you prefere to burn a paper each 5 seconds or throw in a log every 30 or so minutes? Furthermore, the log shown in the video was really poorly made: turn paper into pulp with a mixer (you can easily make one with a power drill), add sawdust if you have/can. Then press it into a metal tube to extract the water and let it dry a couple of days in the sun: now you got some serious fuel to burn in your fireplace.

It takes more than four or five days to dry out these logs. That is why the OP on this video had trouble burning her logs You need about two weeks in the sun Don't use these paper logs with fireplace insterts or free-standing wood burners that have catalytic burners. Thes paper logs burn to dry and too hot for those types of insert/burners

I heard for better results only use them after you get a fire started with kindling then throw on the paper logs. I am doing the paper logs now but using two buckets as my press

I put a single tree log in my fireplace and it wouldn’t stay lit. It was so weird. I put 3 logs in at different angles and it worked great. No one single log is never going to burn unless it has been soaked in a chemical. Try using 3 or more home made logs just like you would use a tree log.

Do you have an idea so as to shred paper without using a machine? Could it be made by a hands-operating mechanism? (more eco)

Dry 4-5 days?? LOL no way... you are supposed to make these logs at least a month prior to cold season!! Know wonder she had problems getting it to burn.... fools

It turned paper into fuel? Yes, without this device I dont think there is anyway they could have got that paper to burn.
