Turnigy 9X Trainer Port Resistor Fix (in wireless module)

This is a quick tutorial on how to fix the trainer port on the Turnigy 9X radio by adding a resistor inline with the PPM signal. Instead of fixing the trace in the radio itself, this time I fixed the trace in the 2.4GHz wireless module. It is a simple fix that corrects a major annoyance.

A little late but I think you may owe it to humanity to re-shoot these valuable works with a lens whose focus ring has been adjusted to suit your working distance. It is like giving us a dirty glass through which to observe your findings. Have mercy man.

@ranthm That small gray wire is actually a small coax cable that goes to the antenna. Check out my antenna hack video for a better explanation of the gray wire. There are pins that come out of the back of the radio and plug into the wireless module. The 3.5mm jack actually has a switch built into it that powers off the wireless module. Unfortunately, a design flaw allows stray electrons to flow into the wireless module killing the signal that is supposed to come out the 3.5mm jack

From hacksmod: The latest ER9X firmware has a an option call “Enable PPMSIM” in the Radio Setup screen. It allows you to turn it ON and the er9x firmware routes the PPM signal to the trainer port through a alternate path. Therefore, it bypasses the module and thus the need to add the resistor.

halleffect1, can you direct me to this latest firmware?

It shouldn't at all. The PPM line gets modulated and then amplified, so as long as you only touch that trace, it should not affect the power output of the radio at all.

@Aaron16 You just take a 3.5mm audio jack, plug it into the TX and then into the Mic or Line In input on your pc. Then, you download a program, can't think of it off the top of my head, that takes the output of TX and converts it to a joystick. Not too difficult!

I'm not familiar with the Flysky version. However, with this mod, all you are doing is disconnecting the antenna and reconnecting it, so whatever wireless module you have in there should still work. With what you described, I'd suspect that there might be a soldering issue and that your signal is shorted or something not properly connected.

Just finished doing this and it works a treat. Thank you. One question and forgive me if it sounds ridiculous but RC flying is very new to me... Will this MOD have any impact on the range of my receiver? Thank you

Couldn't you just put a small switch on the Gray wire from module to radio? And then would it work as the trainer controller?

many thanks i will go and get a smt resistor tomorrow and do mine i was wondering why it would not work in the simulators

Thanks for uploading this video. I just performed this fix on my flysky th9x,but I have an important question. I was able to bind the module to my receiver (the receiver's LED went from flashign to steady after the binding process), but my problem is that my servos do not respond at all Does this modification not allow you to use stock receivers? The reason I did this modification so I could hook up my UHF module to the trainer port and have the ability to use my stock flysky receivers as well

Good morning , friend this modification , may interfere with the reception signal to the receiver without loss of signal? is reliable . ? I thank you for your attention .

what's the value of this resistor? it's a good job and a good idea also, instead of open the whole radio. thank's for share!

I just did. I bought a nicer camera. Hopefully my future videos will have better focus.

How do you even use these with RC flight sims? (I'm new to this stuff)

I finally do have a much better camera. We'll see how my Saturday shapes up.
