I often get asked, "So, what exactly do you do for a living?" And honestly, if you’re not familiar with analog or dry plate photography, it can be tough to explain. That’s why I decided to share my passion for Dry Plate making by taking you through what has become my everyday routine over the past few years.
In this video, I’m inviting you into the world of Glass Dry Plate photography, a craft that goes back more than 150 years. It’s a process that feels almost like stepping back in time, one that requires patience, skill and a lot of hands-on care. Follow me through each step-from grinding and preparing the glass plates to carefully coating them with a silver gelatin emulsion, and finally, packing them up for customers who still cherish this beautiful, tactile form of photography. It’s a delicate balance of science and artistry, and I’ve spent years refining it.
For me, this isn't just about producing plates-it's about preserving a piece of history that nearly disappeared. What’s incredible is that this method, which was once central to the evolution of photography, is now seeing a revival thanks to a growing community of enthusiasts who love the unique quality and beauty that dry plates offer. Through this video, I hope to share that passion with you and show how, together, we can keep this amazing craft alive, one plate at a time.
No words, just me immersed in my craft, doing what I love. Sit back and enjoy the process…
