Hi Bob, I'm really glad I watched the full version. The processes are explained so well and easy to follow. It was a great shame when you had the catch. I was so impressed that you used traditional tools and not carbides. When sanding acrylics I always wet sand to avoid heat build-up. Beautifull pen Bob and a brilliant pieces of turning. Cheers, Huw

Bob have you thought about making a clip for the pen to hold to your pen in your pocket on the cap. You can order the clips. All you would have to do is make a tenon that the clip would slide onto put a hole for the tenon to slide into. Put a little thick CA in the hole and slide the tenon with the clip onto the cap and it should never come back off

Bob, Nice video. In a previous video you mentioned that the tenon turning tool uses a letter "A" size bit for the pilot hole. In this video you mentioned it was a quarter inch (.250"). I was wondering if this is an update or if the "A" size is still recommende?
@RJBWoodTurner
@RJBWoodTurner 4 года назад
Hello Thomas, You are correct, I had to reread the instructions and it does suggest an “A” bit as the best diameter for the cutter. Regards, Bob

I’ve done something similar in wood. It requires making acrylic inserts as most woods will not take threads well. Regards, Bob

i done some coarse threading, 3/8 NC for bottle stoppers. i saturate the area with thin ca before and after threading but yopu dont get nice looking threads like your pens have. my coarse threads are perfectly functional though
@RJBWoodTurner
@RJBWoodTurner 4 года назад
You can make an insert for the stopper with Alumilite. Just thread it and turn I to the desired diameter then ebony it in. I’ve done that numerous times and it works very well. Regards, Bob

At around 22 minutes you discuss the S bit versus a 1/4 drill bit. You state you used and S bit, but should have used a 1/4" bit. But earlier you made the comment that an S bit is the correct bit for a 10MM tap, can you explain? I'm confused about which bit to use 1st? Before you tap?
@RJBWoodTurner
@RJBWoodTurner 4 года назад
Hello Rick, The “S” bit is the proper size for the 10mm tap. What I was worried about was buggering up the threads I had just made. I need to drill the 1/4” hole for the tenon cutter guide first, make the tenon, then come back and drill the “S” hole for the tap and thread it. Sorry I wasn’t very clear in that explanation. Regards, Bob

Bob, I enjoy your videos but why do you jump back and forth between metric and imperial? measure in metric then drill in imperial to do a metric thread.... now i can just ignore your imperial drill bit sizes because i know metric so i know my m10x1 thread needs a 9mm drill. i can jump from common imperial to metric as i old and worked on old cars with imperial fixings so know the metric conversion. not sure how many of your countrymen use metric?
@RJBWoodTurner
@RJBWoodTurner 3 года назад
I jump back and forth because I haven’t acquired a full set of metric drill bits. Little by little I am adding them to my collection but it takes time and money. Eventually I’ll be able to settle on metric for everything. Regards, Bob
