You can also, using splitters, utilize a 2 channel stereo amp as a mono system. This way, 2 drivers or 2 different speakers can be used per each stereo amp. Think, bi-amp for each stereo channel. Some amplifiers cannot be bridged into mono either.

I thought of that too. But what about the strenght of the input signal? Wouldnt the voltage or amperage be divided? I have a stereo valve amp with only 13w per channel. Im thinking of buying another identical amp and use each as mono in this bi-amp configuration. Need to properly understand all the implications though

Paul was clear here, I applaud him for taking on a 202 question. It's a bit more difficult to picture in your mind's eye than the typical question. Some graphics would help with the phase inversion aspects. Anyone that has tried to integrate REL subs with M700's would have crossed through this threshold. :)

Ouch !! We got there ... I think ! To do this in practice just make or buy an unbalanced to balanced line driver with unity gain and couple the balanced lines to the input of each channel of the stereo amp and hook up the speaker as Paul said ...( check the correct phasing of the speakers though )

Is running a stereo amp bridged for one speaker better I think he was asking. I’m using one stereo amp bridged to make about 160watts for one of my towers. I have two of the same amps and run them as monoblocks. One for each speaker. It’s either that or only getting 50rms out of them per channel in stereo mode.

Yikes! Attempting this type of hook up will kill off a lot of amplifiers. You should only attempt to bridge an amp, if it was designed from the factory to do that, and has the required bridging switch.

Each amplifier channel see the load as 1/2 the impedance of what is connected to the output terminals. An 8 ohm resistive load looks like a 4 ohm load to each channel. This is not a problem to most amplifiers. However a lot of speakers that are rated at 8 ohms are not 8 ohms at every or sometimes any frequency. In addition they are reactive. Most bridgeable amps I have seen have multiple output transistors per polarity. hefty power supplies and have their protection circuits designed for operating in that manner. An example: An amplifier I have here is rated at 100 watts into 8 ohms. If that was all it would see, 4 of the 160 watt output transistors would be adequate. However it is bridgeable and designed for industrial use with low impedance loads, so it has 12.

Take a set of rca cables, 2 y adapters. Run one side of the rca cable, to the y adapter, then plug both ends of the y adapter into the left and right input of one amplifier. Repeat for the second one. If multiple channels are desired, repeat as needed. Be sure to match the paired channels with matching amplifiers.

I never really liked the sound of early bridged solutions. They had a kind of implausible punch in the mid bass to my ears. I don't know for sure why but I suspect it had something to do with the damping factor that resulted from putting the stages in series.

I would not recommend attempting to connect the two red terminals on a standard stereo amplifier to a single speaker. This will likely damage the amplifier and possibly the speaker as well. Bridged amps have special circuitry to enable this connection including routing a single input to both power amps and handling any issues with the phase of the signal.

You don't need an amplifier to be bridgeable do you use separate amplifiers for each Channel. All you have to do is hook up the left output whatever your program sources to one amplifier and the right output to the other one. I know this works cuz I just did an experiment to satisfy my curiosity the amplifiers aren't even the same brand and it still works of course you have to adjust the volume control separately of each amplifier. As I said this was just an experiment and I don't know that using separate amplifiers in this way is of any advantage I know you're not gaining any extra power this way

Hi There is a BTL converter that will, like Paul said take a single un-balanced input and make an out put that is 180 degrees out of phase. Now on a" regular" stereo feed these 2 new outputs(from the BTL) into the stereo left and right inputs and only use the red speaker connections. Also be careful don't go below 8 ohms. The converter is on Ebay it's a DIY circuit board. Just search unbalanced to balanced converter it should pop up. Again this is a DIY so if you aren't comfortable soldering or connecting an AC power supply, stay away. Just my 2 cents

What about putting the same signal (left channel, say) into both inputs and then run each output to a bi-wired speaker. You would, of course need a second stereo amplifier for the right channel to the other speaker.
@UniCrafter

I use two bridged amplifiers onto a single subwoofer, with a dual voice coil, so one amp per coil. Works fine, though you'll want to gain match the amps/outputs. A good way of doing it is reverse the wires on one of the coils and try to null any sound, being careful not to turn it up too much and burn out the coil.

There’s another way of connecting a stereo amp, pseudo earthed amplification. It surely improves the sound quality though it doesn’t heighten the output. You connect only one channel and shortcut the other channel by connecting a shortcutted plug in the positive (red) input on the other channel. This way the shortcutted side helps by dampening the signal (-pulling, as Paul would have expressed it😊) and it surely gives the amps a much more controlled sound. I had my two Rotel power stereo amplifiers playing this way for years but have them now playing in ordinary bridged mode. This makes them sound more dynamic but not quite as controlled as in pseudo earthed mode. Guess it’s a matter of preference... Pseudo earthed mode is only an advantage if your two stereo amps has enough power in advantage, otherwise it would probably be wiser to choose bridged mode. But you’ll be surprised how much it improves the sound if you have two reasonably powerful stereo amps. Surely worth trying👍
@scottstone1444
@scottstone1444 Год назад
Can you do this with the rotel rb-1050?
@kjeldpedersen666
@kjeldpedersen666 Год назад
@@scottstone1444 Well, again; you will of course need two of them. One for each stereo channel. My amps are RB 981’s with an output reaching 120 watts in 8ohm, your amps reaches 70 watts. But the construction is basically the same although your amps are some years newer. If you’re already satisfied with the output in your listening room you’ll probably hear a clear improvement in sound quality. It’s not that the output gets lower, it just stays the same. Or in reality a smidgen higher due to the fact that each channel now has a separate power supply as I understand it. But it’s not more than 5 watts or so. I must stress this again: It’s important that the amps are in normal stereo mode if you connect them this way. You can’t do pseudo earthed amplification with amps in bridged mode. You will destroy your amps that way. But otherwise it’s problem free😊 I got the idea from a Hifi magazine many years ago. I don’t remember which amps they used, but it was audiophile expensive amps with an output of around 60 watts. The listening team at the magazine were stunned by the sound improvement. Would like to hear from you if you try this👍

He did miss that although you gain around x3.5 in power you lose in impedance. So you half the impedance that the amplifier is able to drive. Bridged mono also comes with other problems it sucks compared to a true monoblock system in sound. There is nothing like a true dedicated mono system. However using a good integrated can be just as good as you have shorter wiring although this is only evident in better constructed integrated amps say as a starter Prima Luna and yes valves/tubes rock contrary to popular belief

Take left channel split into two using RCA splitters. Do the same for right channel. Now you have two left channels and two right channels. Take two left channels and input it to a stereo amplifier. In the output side of amp use the splitter again but this time it will combine the two outputs from amplifier to one single left channel. Do same for right channel. Now my question is will this setup ever work or will blow the amp or speaker.? Asking because we are combining the output of a stereo amp into one thought both outputs were carrying only one channel. I hope I was clear.
@marcusfred4480
@marcusfred4480 4 года назад
I never tried this. I get what you are saying but I don't think it will work too well. What you are explaining is kinda like what amplifier designers do when they double up on the output transistors so that each channel has four output transistors instead of two and they are basically paralleled up. But doing this by just connecting the left and right outputs in parallel is not the same thing electronically. I wouldn't recomended it personally. And even if it did not bother the amp, you wouldn't have as much to gain in overall output power as if you use the amp in bridged mode as described in the video.

@@edwardallenthree Progressives like superficial differences in appearance and sex, but uniformity of thought. In the 90s it was perfectly ok to have a variety films about the struggles of individuals of different backgrounds, ethnic or otherwise. With progressive media and entertainment the goal is to force everyone to make the same content with the same ideology and intent to normalize and manipulate behavior. Not that there weren't subversive films before, but it was the individual artist's choice, and the only thing holding the artist back was obtaining funding. If the money people didn't think it would sell or if blatant offense would cut into their bottom line then they would either moderate the content or it wouldn't happen. Now it's all the same agenda, and the companies don't care what their viewers think.

@@Frank_42 I don't understand what any of that has to do with the topic at hand. The only ideas I am trying to suppress are racist ideas. Yes, I have reported individuals for hate speech. That is because hate speech is wrong. You seem to be projecting the approach of Fox News onto "progressive media." An interesting argument, and not entirely wrong (but certainly not correct), and would be interesting to explore. **** But it has nothing to do with the fact that WESTEL AUDIO is arguing that white people and Asian people are better than black and Hispanic people, and should have the right to oppress black and Hispanic people because of their superiority. Read his comments. Look at all them. You will see he is racist AF. That is a problem that even a Fox News addict like you should be able to see. **** The fact is that there is no reason, none at all, to limit migration (at the moment). Arguments all come down to the one that WESTEL Audio makes above: that immigrants are stupid, lazy, criminals. That argument is slanderous, false, and evil. We can argue about what diversity means. We can argue about whether certain inequities are caused by systemic racism. But if you dare try to repeat WESTAL Audio's arguments that immigrants are bad people, and claim to not be a FUCKING BIGOT, then you are not worth any more of my time. If you want to talk immigration compromise, by the way, I am game. I would support a dramatic increase in legal immigration (to the point were supply and demand for labor are met) and a guarantee of support for refugees (up to, say, 1 million a year?) in exchange for more money for border security, as well as a system for identifying who crosses, and whether or not they are a criminal fugitive or suspected terrorist. We would have to, of course, find a humane way of documenting the undocumented as well.
