Due to me being an idiot and forgetting to include them, I have now included the weapons seen in this pack with a couple of changes that I think would better suit the overall vibe.

Left 4 Dead (1) does pretty well trying to be a horror game Left 4 Dead 2 gets rid of the horror aesthetic in maps and focuses on being a fun game But in my experience playing Left 4 Dead 1, it's a horror game compared to 2. It's darker in aesthetic, and even the AI director actually makes the special infected a threat instead of spawning them one by one and out in the open. They are more aggressive and work together. Even with the CS Source look to L4D1 makes it look more uncanny compared to L4D2. Giving that "nostalgia horror" vibe. I do like to go back to L4D1 just for that every once in a while.

Actually there's a whole modpack simply titled "Nightmare", it has these mods and more, I actually really like it, though I replaced some of the survivor mods with the generic survivors, like the cop or the nurse.

Im trying to turn my game into a horror tactical shooter, this video is really useful for me.

This was really good, the choice in weapons, keeping the zombies the original models and the texture and lighting are all great choices for making it feel like a horror game. The choice in making the movement slower too instead of running was the best. Most l4d2 players run or move to a better position to give themselves a better chance. the fact that now it’s harder to move to a better position while fighting give you no other option than sit close to your teammates. Great vid!

They should make a mod where it feels like the characters aren’t doing any professional at using guns but more like a beginner, a rookie that handles guns. He’s right about not using the cod mw 2019 animations because of the professionalism on the way the handle weapons

I remember awhile ago I found this weapon mod on the workshop that changed the silenced smg into an automatic nail gun, which I think would fit well with your idea of using tools for weapons. That’s one of the main reasons why I used it, but I cannot for the life of me find that mod anymore. I searched the workshop and gamemaps and could never find it, so I guess it was removed :(

Great video, this is what i have been trying to find a video just like this for months now and this is the perfect mod list that I really wanted. Its not too personal in my opinion and is just a very good addition to make it a horror game

I'd suggest, in a video creation point of view, you should explain your solutions. Like at part 1 when you're talking about how you're trying to look for WW2 weapons and more improvised animations, you talk about them, then another, then Part 2. It is not that satisfying to watch as a viewer and can leave a sense of false hope, because when a creator talk about those, they usually add something like "to combat this, I use this workshop addon, I use this animations and here's a few second clips of them..." To not spoil the whole thing, you can add barely enough with each section, I think.

10:32 I would that these new special models feel more like the virus went TOO out of control to be terrifying tbh. I feel like the fact that they are so deformed removes the sense that they were once human. there's barely any clothes remaining on any of them (except surprisingly the tank), to the point where it just feels like you're fighting animals monsters or aliens rather than former fellow humans, sort of taking away the body horror from some of the specials.

I was kinda expecting a segment at the end where you do a chapter showcase with no commentary just to see every mod and add-on harmonize as one. if it is good as it seems. I was wanting to hear the ambiance and environment as well

Cry of Fear textures work wayyyy too well for Left 4 Dead 1's campaigns, I'm always using that mod nowadays.

it would be interesting if you could also list custom maps that match perfectly the atmosphere of the modpack since replaying the same official maps a billion times can definitely cut a lot of tension and dread, being in an enviroment you're not familiar with definitely adds up quite a lot to horror

I wish u went farther and changed the actual values for the guns, I feel like you would've enjoyed it a lot more. That being said, thie was still a cool video, I recommmend you try out No More Room in Hell. I feel like you'll love it.

The weapon choice is peculiar to say the least. The game is set in the USA -it makes no sense that there are only WWI-WWII era weapons. Some of them are even from the very beginning of the 20th century. P38 as a magnum? But then Berettas? Sjögren shotgun? Hmm... Animations are also extremely fast and they really do take away the horror feeling. These sort of animations are tactical. None of the survivors are super soldiers. They are just random people. (Yeah, there's Bill, but he wouldn't even reload like that at all). In the OG, you can really tell that characters were minding their business and then the infection hit. With your choice of clothing, this aspect is lost. They all look the same, the colors are simply different. Infected are also very far away from the game's core and lore. They do not pair well at all with the setting; they feel way too artificial. Lighting is off pretty much everywhere. The lighting in both interiors and exteriors is horrible. I have seen many videos of "trying to turn L4D into a horror game", "trying to make L4D as realistic as possible", etc., and NONE of them achieve what they want to achieve. It actually ends up looking like a whole mess. Valve did an excellent job.

as someone with 475 hours in l4d2, this literally made me afraid of the game again, and made me play from a new perspective. with most of my time coming from versus i was so used to barreling through levels killing infected through, but this forced me to play the game in a perspective that made me think a lot more carefully. actually had to weigh the differences between my weapons and when id use them, typically id default to sniper but is that really useful without a crosshair? maybe id use shotgun since it doesnt require much aim, but it has so much less ammo. this forced me to actually place my shots a lot more carefully. while i didnt have the weapon mods, this was still creepy and unnerving. dont get me started on the specials, it felt like the only thing i really would have an advantage over was gone, only issue i have with this was.. invisible boomer, i get its meant to make you listen for it or see it breaking a door or window and kill it then, and to create more encounters where theres insane amounts of infected but, it felt more like an artificial difficulty increase and i wasnt a fan. other than that, great modpack (also CoF mentioned, W)
