Hey guys! I'm Alexandra Gater and I show you how to do rental-friendly upgrades and DIY projects on a budget. New videos every Saturday! Today I'm refreshing my rental bedroom and making it more cozy and warm. A cozy accent wall, an Ikea Tarva dresser hack and some simple changes completely transform this room. I hope this shows you that even a few changes can make such a difference.

I think this video should be pinned somewhere as an example of relationship building. It’s so great to see Noah taking steps to include himself, and to see Alexandra with a little bit of relief, a little bit of yay and a little bit of “this might be uncomfortable, but OK”… I love your makeovers and the energy I can borrow from them. I like moody colours, but still love your playful energy. The critics are probably sitting on their couches assessing the world, but afraid to actually do anything. Sorry for the essay. If you can forge on regardless, I really enjoy your uploads🤩❤️

I’m an old lady from montana. Not exactly what you’d expect to be inspired by a big city girl. But I have been so delighted to use so many of your ideas. They touch my heart and I feel so happy! I love watching you two discuss making over your space :) Love that Noah shares his feelings and opinions about decor, a lot of men don't speak up and then complain later that the space doesn't reflect them as well. Noah is so much more open and comfortable now that you've been together a while, you two are such a cute couple :) Ignore the negative comments, says a lot more about them than it does you :) :) I wish you could post a makeover every single day, watching your channel is calming and upbeat, good free therapy for the soul :) :)

Very nice makeover. I liked your room before but it's true that it was maybe a bit dull. The new decor makes it warmer and, I would add that it also feels happier to me. Noah's comment about men having to have ideas and opinions about decor was a very good one. I know it's hard, specially on social medias, but never let negativity define what you want to do. 👍☀️😊🙋‍♀️

I love your floofy beautiful kitty!! Everyone has opinions on wall color, it's all about what colors make the person who's living there, happy! For me, pink and shades of pink is NEVER allowed in my room....like ever!! But my sister loves it, it's her happy place and that's awesome! I just love the scandi/japandi style of decor, it's calm, my zen, my happy place for my room! Baskets are good in your room for cat to sit in, right after he pulls everything out so he CAN sit in the basket!!

A million things to love about the Reno! My top 5 below. One thing kept this from being a perfect post...a spontaneous break out of song. 1. Lottie, I just can’t get enough Lottie. Every home needs a Lottie. 2. That mirror OMG, that mirror! 3. That whole mirror section - chair, decorate pull backs, the cabinet, the lamp...the whole vibe makes it look like a place you want to hang out. 4. The collab on the color...liked the idea of the test colors to get the collaboration going on a mutually agreeable color.

That wall color is so crisp, I'm in love with it. Excellent refresher. Love the print, love the chair, the little dresser and mirror combo. That bench at the foot of the bed was unexpected and I love it.

Oh. I love the changes, the room is not just warmer and cosier but more cohesive. Despite the colour differences in individual pieces they all complement each other perfectly. It feels much more welcoming than before. You listened to each other and compromised so well. Big yes to your refresh. 🤗 Don't worry about reactions! You can please some of the people... etc. Keep your confidence in your own vision and don't let negativity affect you too much. You can listen to conflicting opinions and consider the points made but do what you feel is right. 💖

Love the updating of the room. It looks so warm and cozy. My only thing would be finding some thin low profile night stands. But I also need places for water and books by my bed. Lol might be my second favorite team ag room to date.

That small thingy on sides of bed looks so impractical, like where do you keep your water and mobile phone. I am all for aesthetic but practicality just adds the reason to love it even more.

@@adascraps Yes, I really prefer a side table because I can leave things in reach without fully waking up, sitting up and reaching back up. My cousin got an overbed shelf in her spare room. When I stayed over, I found I kept hitting the back of my head on the shelf. She's trying a thick throw on top of the shelf to cushion it now.

My first thought was that corner was crying out for a chair. I love everything, but that print feels out of step with the vibe. Everything is soothing and relaxing and then *zap*! Beautiful room and I loved how you and Noah collaborated on it. Kudos!

I love your curvy mirror. I could just see it on a bigger wall and use two together with their flat sides together. Vertical or horizontal would both look great. I always walk away from each video with idea's and pieces I love even if the entire space isn't exactly my taste. You guys have such fun, younger tastes and styles which is so beautiful, but being one of your older followers (60) I tend to love pieces and parts that I can blend in with my style. I love this room refresh and I love your videos because you are happy and normal and admit to any stuff-ups. You aren't trying to be a know-it-all supermodel with a huge budget. Please don't let any negative comments get to you. Haters are gonna hate regardless of what you do. Remember that nasty old sandwich decoration comment from your early days and laugh off the losers. Don’t normally write, but I love your makeovers. They aren’t always my taste but it would be weird & boring if we all liked the same things, so I hope you ignore all the negativity. I’m so happy your squiggle twig got a squiggle companion with the Citizenry mirror. I recall a really uncomfortable amount of negative comments on previous videos in this series - assumptions were made! - so I’m glad you spent time filming the planning process and the decisions you made as a couple, since it’s a much different process in your own space than with your clients.

I dont see why people have to be rude.. they can disagree with your choices... and can say what they'd have done differently - politely. I’d love to see you add a stone top to that Tarva dresser. I feel like the way the dowels end on the top of the sides is awkward. And an impervious top on a dresser is very handy!

It looks great. I like how you adapted to the changes (choosing different dresser and different spot for it, adding armchair), because we can't always get what we want ;) only thing I would change here: I would get bigger art piece above the bed (and maybe move bed and art closer to big wordrobe, it might be in the center now, but because of the shape of wall it doesn't seem like the center) edit: oh, and thank you for the idea of how to add legs if dresser have that frame and not board - I bought a dresser today and because of really uneven floor I was thinking about solution ♥

Hi Alexandra, I was one of those who didn't like the almost bare bedroom makeover (I called it the white squiggle room) when it was first reviewed but kept mum about it (it's your personal room so if you liked it who am I to object)? But I have to say this time the seemingly simply tweak to the colour scheme really works. Still if only you could find a good Ikea piece over at Facebook marketplace instead of the smaller version of it the room would have looked perfect for its size. But the placing of the smaller version on the opposite wall with that squiggle mirror did help, stylistically and practically. Well done for showing us that your BF is getting more involved in the choice of the colour of the accent wall...👏🏼👏🏻👏🏿

What I liked: -that LAMP! -the dresser looks so good - hard to believe that it started like as a plain, untreated Ikea dresser! The stain treatment is perfect. -the pattern on the lumbar pillow somehow just really ties the room together, great addition. -agree that the Katie Wong piece, though really cool, just didn't quite work above the bed - the wooden squiggle shape of the art was fighting with the straight wooden poles of the bed frame - and the painting works much better in the space. -the accent wall really works well, and I'm usually an accent wall skeptic; in this case, however, the usual shape of the wall and how it's set further back that the walls adjacent really calls for the pop of color. -Acknowledging real world constraints, like supply chain back orders, having to go back and repaint, or moving furniture around a couple of times. It makes this whole process feel more realistic and achievable. Areas to reconsider the next time you refresh the bedroom: -Considered staining the legs on the dresser as well. -The curtains are too long and might look messy, perhaps hemming them? A bit extra but would add a cleaner effect. Graham & the kitty stole the show as always! Be the most careful!

Huge improvement, the dresser came out great. I still think somethings missing in this room though, the design looks a little 2D and decorative. Lacking some layering and texture key to this style. I bet it will develop over time as you live in the space.

Love your warm and cozy transformation - and how you've used the unusual angles and shapes. My upstairs bedroom has an angled ceiling, and is also mauve! I am moving soon, and thinking of what I'll take and what renew - it will be a smaller space, and I'm thinking of a sleigh bed - with a solid headboard- (I love Feng Shui, and that's one of the guidelines)

I’m sorry(🇨🇦😉) to hear that people criticize your choices for your personal home and art🖼. I don’t understand this at all. (Then, again, I liked what you chose.) IDK if this is helpful. When I test paint I tape up a piece of old wallpaper & paint on the back of it to see if I can live with the colours. That way I don't have to paint over the samples if a lighter shade looks best in the space.
