Smart meters are the new ration books. About 14 year ago I spoke with a guy who was an energy adviser to the government, he told Mr back then " soon you will be hearing about something called a smart meter and it will be sold to you as an energy saving device, well this device will be able to cut off your electricity supply when you hit your monthly quoter". That was 14 yr ago and he was right.

It's not in the interest of power companies to turn off your electricity at any point, because while you have electricity, you're paying for it. Last year in Queensland Australia homes with smart metres had their air conditioners turned down to economy mode for periods of time each day, without the homeowners being told. The energy company later admitted they did this more than 40000times during the summer. No doubt there is worse to come. Don't get a smart metre.

It was with a heavy heart, I finally gave up my E7 meter this year! I was unable to get a cheaper energy deal until I did so. Locked in for 12 months, so avoided the rises until March, and then what? The whole SM thing is a big lie, like everything else UK govt spouts!
'SMART' Stands for: Self-Monitoring-Analysis-Reporting-Technology. You are not legally obligated to accept one. Or keep on. They are dangerous to life forms of the planet. They are a fire risk. It is highly advisable to get a smart meter removed. Just cite health problems and psychological problems (brain fog, debilitation etc). Point out they have no public liability insurance cover.
My husband a very experienced Electrical Engineer. He has been saying this for two years by the stupidity of net zero and closing down oil and gas production. Also what is being done has many technical problems by not using normal generators. It is all nuts to satisfy a type of religion.

Your car needs a minimum of 1300w to even wake up and 1500 to start charging and in that rate it will take far to long. A generator perhaps but that is better used as a primary source of power.

You're not wrong. Every mature tree we have in the UK absorbs up to 25kg of CO2 every year. They've been busily felling trees all over the place to make way for wind turbines and solar panels - 15 million felled in Scotland alone. That's 375,000,000 kg of CO2 that won't get naturally absorbed each year. I'm still trying to find out how many millions of trees have been felled in England and Wales but I imagine it's a huge number.
I'm in the US but... Was at home maybe a year ago working on something (thankfully physical not on the computer) when suddenly the power went out - odd since it was nice weather for days (I'm used to an occasional outage in a storm or high winds)... Then I heard a thump at the side of the house +where the meter is) and the power was back. Went out later to discover they'd changed my meter out for a new digital/"smart" meter. I had the year before decided to enroll in the automatic billing (instead of having to manually pay every month), apparently one of the terms I failed to read all of is they can upgrade your meter without asking (or, well, technically signing up for the auto-pay was your agreement).

I live in New Zealand and when the Sept 2010 earthquake hit, I was not prepared. Thankfully, the damage to my house meant I could still live there and the power and water were only off for a short time. I put together an emergency kit so that if there was another, I would be prepared. When the Feb 2011 earthquake hit and my house was destroyed, I was able to survive without power or water for a number of days before accepting no one was coming to save me and having to leave the region. I was never able to go back. Now, I'm prepared for the worst, food, water, clothing, survival kit, the works. The world is currently in turmoil, literally good versus evil, and we have to do our best to raise the vibration of this world to drown out the evil. I doesn't hurt to keep an emergency kit somewhere easily accessible, and another in the car.

South African here 🙋🏻♀️. Can confirm that Loadshedding is terrible. People on oxygen machines at their homes are always in grave danger with a 4-hour “Loadshed”. We have a rotating schedule so every day is different so you need to check and plan your life. We all had to get gas stoves of some kind to be able to cook dinner. Even if only a portable 1-plate butane thing. Businesses and people working from home had to get petrol generators or solar panels and inverters or battery inverters. We all had to buy candles and emergency lights and stovetop kettles. Plus pay for electricity. No discount for the time lost. Oh and when the power comes back on after Loadshedding the power surge sucks up a few units as if you’ve put the kettle on. Mothers with babies and small children with 5pm Loadshedding? It turns everything upside down. We get told to conserve power so that the grid isn’t stressed, then we must turn off geysers and lights and such at the electricity distribution board. 13 years of this and I can tell you it’s not a fun time people. We had to put solar panels in at home to be able to get work done ( remote).
And not just the corrupt GOVCO / power companies in South Africa . . . copper theft there is crazy, way to ruin a country. Have watched a few docos on this, electric wiring from homes, street lights, overhead and underground powerlines, even train overhead power cabling !! Most of the stolen copper is apparently going to China (of course).

When I worked at Coventry Colliery back in the 1980's there were known reserves of coal underneath the UK to keep the UK energy self-sufficient for 300+ years.
Coal is dead now though. They turned off the last coal plant. Which was stupid, they should have kept it running until they had a new plant operational.
And the oil wells never run dry...they refill naturally however we will never be told that either. There are mountain ranges of coal in Antarctica, Admiral Byrd told the world that. He claimed more than enough fuel for hundreds of years. The "hurricane" in North Carolina last week was a land grab to claim the lithium mines in the mountains. All for net zero...This world is full of pure evil mf's.

I am an electrician, 43 years, when I served my time we were TOLD, in a domestic situation if the client seemed,or told you they didn't have enough money you sorted them out anyway, why? Because they had to wash, feed themselves,heat there babies bottles, keep themselves warm, and so much more. Then as years went bye I realised having dealt with the electrical supply companies that they not only are overpaid and underworked never mind their pensions, they didn't give a damn about cutting the power from a person with children or a pensioner. However when it came to a commercial business or industrial, they'd let that slide, but the granny on a meagre pension had to pay or get cut off. I've known this for years, these energy companies get away with murder because everyone NEEDS power. Energy companies and their electricians are considered the lowest form of life amongst us tradesmen.

Roughly this year 55% of my gas and electricity bill was for the energy itself and 45% for the daily charges by these parasitic energy brokers who jokingly call themselves energy suppliers ffs.
And that is the real issue here. These companies have to buy energy from the markets. If the people of the UK still owned energy generation facilities and the network, like in france, then we would be facing 4% rises in energy bills, like the French. Instead EDF build and run our power stations and supply our power. And who is responsible for all of this ? The tories who sold if all off for a quick buck !

my brother has worked for the last coal power station for almost 25 yrs... the other week the national grid was very very close to having an outage & it's not even winter. We now have no backup supply yet China has committed to building hundreds of coal fired power stations over the next few years ...

I found this out this weekend I live in the highlands of Scotland the lights went out for five hours from midnight .I used to be able to use my landline phone to contact family etc ,but not now because they automatically put me on to digital instead of copper wired connection so I was stuck in the complete dark no mobile ,no landline and no lights I’m 73 years of age it is scary!
@@Brian-om2hh Sounds a good idea, but ask your mobile provider (assuming you are using a retail service and not a military or emergency service network) what back up power supply arrangement your local cell site has and how long the batteries will maintain service, I doubt if it is more than 4 hours and many sites have a lot less.

We have to manufacture CO2 to put it in soft drinks and beer, animals are gassed in it before slaughter, every packaged food that you buy from meat to bread is packed in CO2 to extend the use by date. Green houses generate CO2 using electricity to make the plants grow better. We generate and use CO2 in huge amounts because our society needs it and there was a shortage during the covid panic yet the U.K. government is going to spend £22 billion of our money to give to their rich friends to ‘capture’ carbon and store it underground. Why? 😳

About 2 years ago I went out and bought a number of battery operated lamps a camping stove a camping kettle and saucepan and two very bright battery operated torches and a table top barbecue as well as candles. Husband thought I was mad but hey ho think I’m sorted for any blackouts !
A few of my family think I’m crazy for my emergency hoard 😂 All the things you’ve just mentioned, with extra gas for camping stove plus a calor gas heater! I live with my 77 year old Mam, & for me, it is ensuring that she will always be kept warm, safe & able to have hot drinks & a hot meal is my priority. I would rather have it all on hand & never need to use it than to be in a situation where we need a backup but it’s not there!

I live very far away in Central America and just bought an old house here which was solar. I’ve spent a lot to update it but where I am is the most expensive electricity in the world that goes out very very often. I know the UK isn’t so great for solar but here is. Katie, you are great. People need to realise what is happening and get prepared. There are even little lights that you plug in to charge and will give light for hours rather than burning candles which can be a big danger to the house. Thank you x
I'm old enough to remember,working people not owning cars,nor central heating,nor baths with running hot water, nor inside toilets,nor telephones, nor fridges,or freezers. Heating came from coal fires or paragon heaters! Entertainment came from reading,or the pub or playing games,football, bowls dominoes ,darts etc! BUT,we knew about the party politics and woundn't have been suckered into believing this climate change green rubbish! But yes, most people did believe in God and having endured two world wars,they knew and know all our trust is in Him!

If the mandate had been changed to include CHP then fossil fuels would be even more "effecient". The CEGB were good at their job and very inovative. Pulverised fuel and flue gas desuphurisation for 2 things and well as 500/600MW sets hydrogen cooled. Big machines very good for frequency and voltage stability, who knows what a spinning reserve is now? I saw M Thatchers "dash for gas" to run down the demand for coal, gas turbine stations running on natural gas had a design life of 25 years by which time the gas would have run out, then what was the plan? Large coal fired power stations burning coal very efficiently leaving natural gas for light industry and domestic use, domestic coal was hard work. We were geared up for burning coal for electricity generation , trains running constantly from the pits to the power stations moving coal.

Not just power rationing, the government are paying farmers not to grow food , they are being payed to let fields go to fallow or to grow wild bird mix . Yet we are relying on imports from mainland Europe and the US , the way the world is at the moment its ridiculous, we have the most productive farmland but the government does not want us to grow our own food. I’ve spoken to several farmers who have confirmed they are going to be paid to not grow food, and to leave fields to rewild. This starts in 2025. Start stockpiling none perishable foods and seeds if you have a garden space or even window boxes to grow food.

We were blackmailed into having one to get a better tariff, they text emailed and phoned us, I told them it was harassment , but wouldn’t give us a better deal.
I have never had smart meter, so the latest wheeze is to make me pay my bill every month and keep demanding new meter readings. I have complained, but the official response is that "it's the new policy." Unofficially, the guy I spoke to told me that all the customers were complaining. So much for customer service. I can see exactly why they are doing it. Death by a thousand cuts.
We had a power cut in my town for about 5 minutes the other night. It's been happening for a few years. Its absolutely disgraceful in this day and age. Its all a massive con!!!
