@@steverichards14 I would love to hear more about some of your interviews and impressions of key politicians. In one video you mentioned interviewing Callaghan late in his life. I would love to know more as I am in my mid 40s so never really knew him. Thatcher would be another etc.
Good point that Cameron was also responding to UKIPs gains, they were second in the European elections in 2009 and won in 2014 with 27.5% of the vote. Remainders never voted significantly on this issue, whereas those for leave were willing to vote for a new party. UKIP did much better than other newish parties like the Green Party.
Denmark 1992.. No.... You 're wrong....Steve Richards... Sept 1988 TUC Bournemouth.. Delors.... Then in response we got Thatcher bruges speech.. That was the kick off.... That was the beginning of the end... 1988 - 2020..
The EU referendum of 2016 was /is & forever will be a absolute utter disgrace. It was a fraud... That day in june 2016 there should have been 4 referendums. 4 separate referendums of equal weight & value.. England Scotland Wales northern Ireland... To leave you 3 - 1.. We got a 2-2 draw... Status quo.. We remain.... Next EU referendum 2026 AD.... The guarantee that there would be an EU referendum every 10 yrs.... or significant treaty change..
We never got a referendum to join.. It was a parliamentary vote.. Why? Because Heath knew the people would vote no.. 70 - 30?....we only got a referendum to remain or leave the common market in 1975.. People thought it was just going to be a trading organisation... IT NEVER EVER WAS... THAT IS NOT WHAT JEAN MONNET INTENDED...
What EU renegotiation 2016...it was worthless meaningless... Then we had a referendum campaign attempting to change a 45 yr anti - EU narrative in less than 4 months..
Cameron wasn't standing in 2020 anyway.. Cameron was quitting in summer 2018 then it would have been... May v OSBORNE v Johnson..? Johnson would still have become PM in September 2018?... Then we get a Johnson General election victory... May 2020... No it would have been delayed.. covid . ..May 21..
There could be a third reason for a referendum. It was reasonable to give people a vote 40 years after the last one and the institution changing from the EEC to the EU. People had never really been asked about political union.
