I rescued this rotten live edge slab with epoxy resin, and carved a unique texture in the epoxy to create a really beautiful live edge table. I power carved the underside of the epoxy resin to create a unique epoxy texture. Thanks to MANSCAPED for sponsoring today’s video! my guess for what happened with the weird stain is some oils got spilled on it at some point (maybe when it was cut fresh) and it was so deeply imbedded it just came up. that or natural oils from the pecan wood.

thanks I hate it. the gold legs with the crystal rock effect is ugly. would have been nicer with a more red dye on the legs, and use a blue dye in the epoxy rather than black, its too cloudy and dark

Too high humidity or oil on the surface of the wood could cause the waviness. Since it was so spongey, maybe the oils from your hand stuck around 🤷‍♀️ I can't imagine it being that humid in your shop
@hadensnodgrass3472
@hadensnodgrass3472 11 месяцев назад
My guess was there was bug(s) that dried up and died inside the wood. The high temperature of the epoxy freed the oils, and they floated to the surface.

Talk about saving a piece of wood fr3om the brink of the burn pile. If ever this applied to a timber slab it is this one. I love the way you jumped right into it & set about salvaging the unsalvagable. I am also very impressed with the 'carving down under'. This was a master stroke & went a long way to producing a TOP CLASS table from nothing. WELL DONE. Cheers, Don from South Australia.

Love the way you took a deep breath when opening the box to reveal what was essentially very expensive firewood. But isn't that always the best way motivate your brain cells to come up with a solution. The workmanship dictates to outcome, and boy you nailed it👍👍👍👍👍

I can't say I love that texture in the epoxy. I think you did an awesome job. And it looks like you executed your vision extremely well. But that wood has such interesting visuals already, it seems like the busyness of the epoxy detracts from it. Amazing job, as usual.

Great looking table! My son has me into epoxy pours now, he's just finished pouring a spalted maple dresser top (he's refinishing his furniture) and it's just beautiful. I'm now planning on making a top for an old trundle sewing machine that belonged to my grandmother, as a b/day gift for my sis. Cruising for ideas, and I like what you did with the cell structure below. Oh, BTW, the egg is during the manscaping break, and it's a head with a dark brown beard! Lmao! Keep it up!

Loved the carved out 'scallops' which once filled and the colours, look like enlongated crocodile/alligator scaling. The gold stand looks good, and I think a deep dark rich black would have "maybe" been a tad better, but hey, I am just an 'armchair' expert. Fantastic job resurrecting that slab of timber, brilliant.

I really enjoy these videos, partly because I like watching people making things but mostly because it's always a learning experience even if it's not first hand. That said, the struggle with this slab hits home with me right now. I'm trying to salvage a piece of black walnut I will hopefully make into a desk for my office but 2 days into it my confidence is running on empty. Here's to not giving up, also great job! Oh, pecan pi!
