REALLY impressive results for a client car where your goal is to give them something reliable that they can just beat on with out much of a care! Friggin' 1.8Ts really do win...
Nice work sorting this thing out. The 3071 is one of my favorites on the 1.8t. I like the Prestone sticker. Pretty hilarious. He should replace it for his "roll call" stickers with a Pentosin one lol. I worked on a few cars that had an assload of oil in the exhaust and intercooler/ piping. Definitely nerve wracking to say the least when its that smokey. To get some of the smoke out of the exhaust sometimes some Seafoam helps in the tank. Not much else you could do besides just let time take its course. On a car that has a cat, it probably wouldn't hurt to use some Cataclean either. It would suck for the oil to ruin the substrate in the converter. Especially if its an expensive OEM one. Then you run the risk of ruining the o2 sensor or getting a whole bunch of efficiency faults and whatnot. I was successful with the Seafoam method on a B5 a4 that a customer decided to way overfill it with oil. Plugs were soaked, PCV was full, etc. Smoked for awhile until I changed out plugs, cleaned the PCV setup, and dumped half a can of it in the tank and sucked the other half of can into the intake via the brake booster hose. Then went and drove it. It cleared up nicely and the smoking completely went away. This is usually the best method I've done to clean them out when they get that way. Really enjoyed this vidja dudes. Good shizz 👍😁😎💪
Appreciate the ideas. This was catless with just a res, so it really just need to be burnt off. It got a new set of plugs and I was worried about the 02s but they hung in there... Luckily.
@@COMotorsports No problem. Catless is the way to go if I had the choice absolutely. Just offering some of my experience but that thing looks like it cleaned itself up just fine. I like the plug gapping tool you guys use. Who makes it? Interested
@@COMotorsports Not sure if you remember me, I’m Mr. Manual Boost Controller😔. Once you swapped over to the 3071 this became very similar to my build, w/exception of injector size(mine 870) and tune which is why I was so interested in the data. I’m using Ross Tech VCDS to read my ECU (United Motorsport tuned) and am trying to gain all the background knowledge I can. I never wanted to get involved with this but I guess if you’re going to do a big turbo build or any build you need to be involved all the way because relying on others certainly has proven to be a bad choice in the past (for me).
I do have the 93 octane tune and apr down pipe as well! Car runs strong when I do get a chance to get on it! When I get my intercooler I’ll hit you up!
@@COMotorsports it's a management system built in South Africa 🇿🇦 dictator 60-2 runs these motors like a charm, its very easy to map and very cheap most guys here run it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9h6Gkgb8s-E.htmlsi=-GgM2pjshSEyA-5_
Man I so wish I could get my Jetta to you guys . She got gt30 turbo ,je piston.060 over , cp rods stage 3 tune . There so much shit done but it just needs a reflash cleaned up and make the real power the car has in it . It’s been a up and down fight with the car . It’s called “JUST A BULLY” and she gets down to but there’s just not anyone around here that I can trust with the car. I’m I. New Jersey if you boys are ever up this way let me know . Thanks guys
Was contemplating on going gtx2871 or a gtx3071 on my mk4, this vid pretty much got me set on the 3071. Planing on exactly the same upgrade. Rods and exhaust valves. Just wasn’t sure which turbo to go with.
So I just got my EuroDyne software. I'm putting a K04 (for now) and 440cc injectors on my 1.8T Audi. I'm hoping to get a gt28 and a rebuild done within the next year. One suggestion though, during your video and after each dyno pull you should tell us the power level. Give us more info! Boost level, horsepower, torque... All the good stuff.
I said that to Clayton after watching it myself. We'll try a bit harder next time. Keep in mind this video was filmed over a year period vs the first time we had it and had issues with it.
i know you guys dont want to give tuning secrets away but getting an idea of what the timing change is at rather than saying adding or taking away would be cool.
@@veedubbergti Thanks for the feedback, since every engine, fuel, and setup is different that info is irrelevant honestly. It's different for every car.
Loving this channel. Currently putting together an auq to go in my e36 bmw of all things and you've answered loads of questions just by watching the video. Are the hp numbers you quote all wheel power? I'd like mine to be around 360 wheel so it's a bit better than an s54 but still reliable enough to use daily..so all I'd need really engine wise is a gt30 turbo, injectors and rods? Thanks, wish we could colab our channels but your a bit far away! 😂
Appreciate the comments. All our dyno numbers are at the wheels. Sounds like a neat swap you have planned. No problem making that power with that turbo. I'm sure when you get to the point of getting it up and running we can figure something out.
I just bought a 2001 Jetta 1.8L and it is smoking but only when I am coming out of first gear or rev it at idle. The guy I bought it from said it just needed an oil catch can to resolve the smoking issue? anyone have any input?
I plan to turn up the boost on the car I just bought and cause a smoke show. Then I'm gonna go big turbo and sell the still perfectly functional stock turbo. TDI baybee

Nice !!! Love seeing a new upload ! On the first pull when the turbo failed I was like I’ve never seen a3076r spool so sow but makes perfect sense now haha what fuel did you guys use something good or just fresh pump ?
@@marcelinofredericks1534 stock is a diverter valve, which is required for a MAF vehicle. We did a mafless tune on so it got an upgraded BOV instead. The stock DV on a 1.8t is junk so even on a standard stage 1 or 2 tune they usually fail and folks upgrade to an APR or CTS diverter valve.
Love the the content! I’ve a 2017 Passat R-Line with the 1.8 and have a intake, custom exhaust and apr stage 2 no Intercooler yet but realistically how much more power can I get out of this current set up?
Lots with a turbo upgrade. You've maxed out what you have really. Cooler IAT and better fuel is about the only options. Turbo only has so much to give.
We use it all the time. It's hard on some cars to keep it on the exhaust. Most don't realize the pressure/force coming out. I plan on building something else to help scavenge but haven't got there yet.
I'm ve had 2000 VW Jetta 2.0L automatic trannyfor awhile now. Is there anything that can be done to upgrade to turbo and about how much will I would be spending on it?
@@COMotorsports its honestly like the setup in the video just with spring and retainers and an ie manifold and 80mm throttle body same software and everything
Do you have any experience with the GTX2867R? I feel like boost hits very late, doesn't seem to "hit" until 4k - 4100 rpm and peaks at about 4500 RPM. Holds about 10 PSI from 3300 to 3900 then it spikes quick. Currently using Eurodyne, might have to hit you up for a tune to get it to boost earlier if it's possible.
@@COMotorsports upgrading valves is pretty speedy isn’t it? I’ve got a built bottom end with IE drop in rods then apr head studs on the top end of my 20th anniversary GTI, is there a specific kit you like when upgrading the valves?

Hello, like what you're doing. Have a question about my 1.8t leon mk1, I did a full engine rebuild with forged rods upgraded fuel pump 265l, 440cc or 470cc injectors, large exhaust manifold with hybrid turbo k04. Will be adding front mount intercooler, pump fuel will be 95 or 98 How much hp can I make out ?
Hey CO Motorsports can you adjust afr, ltft, spark advance with the eurodyne mastero 7 software I already use HPtuners for Chevys but they dont cover the 04 JETTA 1.8T is eurodyne mastero 7 similar I want to get LTFT and all my fueling part throttle and wide open throttle perfect and make sure the boost is coming in properly with power enrichment is eurodyne mastero 7 capable of these tuning abilities
@@action76news Yes you can, however it's not such a cut and dry system.. but its one of the only options for these vehicles for an end user tuning suite. You pay for the cable which comes with a lot of base files to get the car running (as long as it's a car they support). Then you can tune from there. So you pay once for a cable and tune, and you can flash other vehicles as well by purchasing more credits.
@@COMotorsports So my car wouldnt need credits because i bought the cable that would allow one car unlimited reflashes but if i want to tune a different vehicle then more credit are needed? Thanks for responding!🇺🇸🦅👍🏻
I have a awp 1.8t in a mk1 rabbit I have all the parts to swap to a garret gt 28 71. Just need a tune looking to make around 280hp. do you have a recommendation on a tuner?
Hey, just found your videos. I have a 2003 Jetta 1.8t on a maestro stage 1 tune that has severe pinging/timing pull. I've narrowed it down to a hardware fault. I've been trying to find the issue for a while and I haven't been able to. Any chance you could help me diagnose it?
It's not an easy task to diagnose a car over the internet unfortunately. However you state you found it to be a hardware fault... silly question but did you fix the hadware?
630cc injectors with gt 3582 turbo wat kinda horsepower should I see roughly with all supporting mods like rods, aeb pistons, exhaust valves basically everything except springs and retainers oh and aem 340lph fuel pump
@@COMotorsports Oh, what do you use to control it, I'm trying to tweak mine a little bit for a balance between performance, reliability, and economics.
There's lots of good enough out there. In short, higher revs and engine braking is the gist, just in stages. It should only take about 20-30 mins break in.
Is there any after market headers that someone can link that bring the turbo above the motor? Really want to just run it out the hood and it would make working on the turbo a breeze.
@@COMotorsports that would be awesome! I know pricing depends on material but something more on the economy side would be awesome. How much would you charge for that kind of service?
@@williamawade242 full boost is relative to how much boost you're running, the engine size, cams, etc. Also if your "full boost" is 10psi its gonna be different then if your running 30psi. I can say on this setup it seen 20psi by 4300rpm.
@@COMotorsports thanks for the reply , and sorry I will have the same set up almost except I won’t have stock cams. but I’m pretty much just curious on how the spool on this turbo would be on a 1.8 with stock cams & valve train compared to a gt2871r?
If i was driving that jetta id have that bitch spooling idk why you wait so long to apply boost bro. 😭 once u get past 4k get on it mannnn ive have 1 of these and they love it your just soaking up heat waiting on boost. Its pulling though
Lol thanks man. However we're tuning the car just not seeing what it's going to make for numbers. Meaning we're trying to replicate as much of the RPM range as possible before getting out on the road. The more done here the less done on the street.
