As a trad dad, videos like this make me feel like I wasted years of my life as a snobby New Hampshire traditionalist, eschewing the gym, bouldering, and sport climbing. I feel like the true path is to get really strong in the gym and bouldering, and then just learn jamming and trad skills over a few days. Such regret.

I really like the big wall videos, so great job! I miss, however, you guys saying it is actually risky - if you fall after climbing 2m you risk falling 4m before rope tightens - if you've climbed slope or it's like a "stair" (big ledges) then you risk hitting the wall / "ground" before rope tightens, and you then risk breaking bones. If you climb 3-4-5-10 meters before setting a gear then you risk falling 6-8-10-20 meters before hitting the wall / ledge / ground, with high risk of breaking bones or death. Of course if it is second pitch, and completely vertical ( or vertical enough ) you will fall into just air, and will be safe even if falling 20m. I miss that information. Most that I talk to that trad climb, or who I watch online, seem to think "you shouldn't fall". I can stumble / fall / do a mistake on even flat ground, and I don't feel risking broken bones or death is worth it? I would like to climb multipitch though, even on trad gear - I just want the risk to be lower. Like it is on a sport lead. Then I risk breaking bone it it's a bit far between bolts (and slope or ledges or rocky uneven ground under the route - then definately the ankle breaks). I also would love to see some slope falling technique, I've seen some "walk backwards and jump".
@WideBoyz
@WideBoyz Год назад
Emil mentions something about how he felt about risk at the end of the video.
@jeeeeeeees
@jeeeeeeees Год назад
@@WideBoyz Yes. But I felt that was a really "short" answer, and "felt quite safe", I would like a longer, more thorough talk about that from people who are more experienced than I. Emil and you lads are really strong and good climbers, so you "don't fall" and that is great, I wonder about the risk if you do, so I know better what the actual risk is. Is it like riding a motorcycle without a helmet? "it is fine as long as you don't fall"? So if you want to elaborate, I am happy :)
