Big fan of oak cone feet. Work wonderfully well under a range of equipment.

When I added a heavy tile, it made a big difference. Cut up racquetballs made an even bigger difference. Very good overview/review.

Yeah, you got me thinking about my TT, I know I need to do some work on it, and you gave me some nice ideas. I also need to upgrade my cd interconnects, or something, I think I am not getting the most out of my cd as well.But TT comes first.

Yup, you did mention CD video coming up ;) My setup is a mess man, I need to fix it at some point.

Very interesting videos, Tudor! My Concept TT sits on top of my rack and is extremely susceptible to footfalls and other vibration. It's currently resting on a cheap Auralex isolation pad, which helps somewhat. I will definitely investigate upgrading the feet - but I suppose I should do as you did and get a wall-mounted shelf for it first. Audiophilia nervosa - there is no cure!!

Wow, really interesting video! I've never experimented with different feet for my turntable. I still have the little rubber feet that came with it. It's funny how seemingly small tweaks can be the ones that make a huge difference.

great video as always, Tudor! I really like that fact that you are using a quality level meter. I had one (the cheapest) by clearaudio and we recognized that it wasn't working 100% correct. A friend of mine bought another one and we could level my turntable even better with this one. Thanks for sharing! Armien

In my opinion record player manufacturer's should make their equipment with the best possible components and that includes the feet so that the consumer shouldn't have to worry about "improving" the sound of what already is "supposed" to be and exceptional record player and just enjoy the music. Cheers.

The stopper is a 3M urethane foot ("Bumpon"). The leveling is nice. You could use laboratory stoppers too. The issue is transferred energy up from the feet, so I'd place an o-ring between the table and spike. I guess, the spike acts to minimize the contact are and thus energy introduction to the table. You can also get set screws that have small nylon contact tips.

Those are a lot better than the ones that came on it. Those original ones seem a bit too simple for clear audio lol.
@mrhoffame
@mrhoffame 10 лет назад
tuturtle Yeah, I like the wood ones a lot better. I always thought it would be cool if those intro level tables with music hall, clear audio, etc.. would set a price on the table and then offer you a choice of 2-3 cartridges and 2-3 feet selection. That would be pretty cool.
@mrhoffame
@mrhoffame 10 лет назад
tuturtle I know. That would be a huge selling feature I would think. ..and to be albe to market it as "design your own table"? Maybe put adds and suggestions about which cartridge you would want to consider for certain styles of music or legs for surfaces you think your table would be on. Probably just a bunch of BS, but still would be a powerful selling feature lol.

yes, a bit like Nike Air Shoes online custom personalized :) Would be Awesome!! i have a Rega RP1 and i am looking at the next step up in term of TT and was thinking this Clearaudio Concept would be a nice upgrade, without having to spend more than 1000 euros ( which, in my amateur opinion is enough to get a enjoyable experience with my records).. I already liked my RP1, just the platter lifting to manually change speed made me want to change.. but the sound quality was a pleasure already to my ears ;).. Any other suggestion within this price range? Please?

I did indeed enjoy finding out what Xindak Damper Shackles were... hah I found this video very informative, Tudor... who knew how much the sound could change! I gotta get dad back over here to place those wooden feet under my receiver... my shelf got so scratched up since the constant moving so I don't even care if it scratches it up now :P Those steelpoints sound crazy expensive.. too bad you sold them :| The doorknob idea amused me... that they'd look super fancy once painted :D I just plug and play my cd player, but that might be 'cause my only options are the boombox and laptop (hah). I think I need a whole new shelf to support getting an actual cd player or a whole new room *snort* the cds through my laptop do sound decent when plugged into my receiver though :D

tuturtle I'll look forward to that video... I'll still need dad to put them on 'cause of the weight though, hah Oooo magnetic feet and floating... sounds like a dream, hah I have a good attention span? or just very detailed in responding ;D

Hi Tudor, thoroughly enjoyed your last #13 T/T vid, including the doorknobs! I believe the issue with unwanted airborne sonic a/o mechanical vibrations feeding back into cartridge leads/phono stage is "Reflection" (with spikes) vs. "Deflection" (with cones). Deflection/Discharge of the vib's proves to more effective in this respect. You may not agree. But recently I've changed out my Clearaudio Ovation (original) spike feet for "Ceraball" M5-thread/cones ("Infinite Elemente" from Germany) and because of the hard/harsh sounding C/A platter I experimented with an "Achromat" (by Funk, UK)) vs. an "Orgin Live" (UK) platter mat. Sound stage (depth, instrument placing) improved miraculously by using the cones instead of the original C/A spikes. (My T/T sits on a wall-mounted 40 kg marble slab). The "Achromat" platter mat won the contest from the "Origin Live" because of deeper & faster bass. I've now become an "Infinite Elemente" addict : I now use the "CeraBase Compact" feet under my C2 Confidence speakers instead of the original Dynaudio spikes. I've used Dave Brubeck's "Unsquare Dance" for spikes/cones comparison : blown of my feet (pun n.i.) just by the sheer speed & impact, with the cones, that is. Cheers, Jan

Would you consider the improvement to be similar to a "major"upgrade similar to what Linn does with their upgrades? I agree that improving the feet should improve the sound, but I'm not sure which way to go with my concept. Does the table lose any of its harmonic richness?

If a sound is produced, or absent, then that is measurable. Were's your measurement figures?

Hello, Thanks for watching and commenting on the video, it's much appreciated. Measurements require measuring equipment, I'd rather spend my money on music! Maybe in the future I'll do a series of measurement based videos. Cheers Tudor

Hi....Great videos...bave just subscribed. If you are interested I have a Pro-ject RPM 6SSB which has 3 spiked cone feet. I have recently bought some Blue Horizon spike shoes underneath and the results have been mighty impressive. They are metal but are filled with a special damping material they cost about gbp25 for a set of4. Thanks again for the videos. Oh I also use the Michell Record Clamp.... less than half the price of the Project Clamp it and much better than the heavy weight puck that came with the turntable!!

Cone feet are great but not the way up most people use them, turn them point up otherwise they are just reflecting and absorbing vibration.

tuturle, I'm setting up my system right now and considering options. You say in the video that you have tried sorbothane among other things. What observations can you offer about sorbothane isolation devices/feet under turntables and other components?
@tuturtle
@tuturtle 8 лет назад
+Bo Pryszlak Hello, Thanks for watching and commenting on the video, it's much appreciated! My advice is as follows; Turntables are a special case that I need to explore more, but with all other Hi-Fi equipment I find that 3 hard feet is the way to go! These easily outperform rubber, Sorbothane or other soft feet every time. However soft feet do work as well. I will do a video on this subject at some point. Cheers Tudor

I was wondering if you have noticed a slight whirring noise from the motor on these tables when you place your ear close to the platter near where the motor sits?

I think you did a fine job with this Tudor. Other than Concept would you know if turntables like Pro-Ject, Rega and lets say Denon all have flimsy feet on them? Also would price definitely matter when upgrading the feet for better sound? I really love those wooden cones. Thanks for sharing this. I really dig the audiophile vibe that you are bringing to the VC~ Rob/Boston

Hi Tudor, Do you think the wooden feet would work with a Pro-ject Carbon turntable ?. My turntable has rubber feet with some felt on the bottom. I have looked at how the feet are attached to the turntable and they appear to be held in with screws and not threads like your turntable will this make any difference do you think. Thanks for a great video. Regards Kev

The sounds is 'damaged'.....hmmm...bullshit. I'd love to put you to the test re: getting you to pick the the difference in a blind text :)
@tuturtle
@tuturtle 8 лет назад
+M E P R Hello, Thanks for watching and commenting on the video, it's much appreciated! It's been done. A simple single blind test. Original feet vs wooden cones. One assistant carried out the test. I was the test subject. The test was carried out 24 times (the chance of guessing the answer 100% correctly is 16.7 million to 1). The TT was covered so I couldn't see it. I left the room while the test was being set up all 24 times! The random sequence was generated by the assistant using computer software (removing their personality and potential influence from the test). The data is binary in nature, I say which feet I believe are being used ( so it's just wood or metal, a black and white answer, no subjective grey) This removes any confirmation bias from the correlation of the results. My answers were 100% correct. It was very easy to tell which feet are being used, because the sound is so different. Placebo in audio is very easy to prove/disprove through the empirical data gained from blind tests, I do them all the time. Next question..... Cheers Tudor

With these feet: no more hiss, no scratches, no ticks, no wow, no rumble, no harmonic distortion, no intermodulation distortion, an absolutely flat frequency range, perfect channel separation, and 25 dB increase of dynamic range. Did I mention no more dust? LOL In search for higher fidelity? Go digital, the middle ages are over.
