Turok! One of my favorite FPSs, probably second only to Half Life. I could go on an hour long rant about why I love this game and why I think its one of the best FPSs ever made, but I'll spare you.
This is probably my, and most people's, favorite track from the game. I've put off doing any Turok covers for a long time now, have always been intimidated by the percussion-based tracks and how I would pull them off with a guitar/metal style. Finally decided to give it a shot.
Castlevania tunes comin up next

that would be so amazing to have an alternate metal cover soundtrack for the new remaster game

Was definitely impressed by this cover. The first Turok soundtrack seems harder to translate into a metal cover than the second games soundtrack, but you did a fantastic job!

Fucking awesome cover. Hearing your rendition of this song... makes me think that this could have been an actual "Death" song. It makes me think of Chuck Schuldiner's style.

Just recently played through the first Turok and this cover is incredibly good, and the original song already slaps and hard! Love it!

The only thing that would make this better is if it had the stereo separation section that occurs around 2:17 in the original track.

Why do you love this game so much? I played Turok when I was little but I prefer the second because I remember some of the story.
@matthewbeckham
@matthewbeckham 6 лет назад
Isn't the story for Turok 2 just "defeat the Primagen"? I'm mean, theres a little more to it than that but thats all I really remember, but I tend to not care much about the "story" in games and care primarily about the gameplay. I dislike cut-scenes, intros, anything that stops you from playing the game and experiencing things yourself. In fact, I love games that just start, and let you figure things out on your own. So theres a little bit of why it seems I prefer the first game over the second heh. As far as gameplay goes...well I could go on for a while, but I'll try and condense it. I like the level designs much better in the first game. The "open" feeling of them is preferable to me, none of them feel like a maze. While playing Turok 2 I was constantly going "where do I go?". I never felt this playing the first one. A lot of the levels from 2 had an indoor feeling to them, I'm guessing because they wanted to do something different. The levels were also gigantic in 2. Gigantic and maze--like lol, to this day I've never finished a level from Seeds of Evil. Again this is just me, my frustration from all the things I dislike probably aided me in eventually giving up and turning the game off. Theres little to no platforming in 2. The first game was more enjoyable to me because it was more than just a FPS, in the same way that Half Life was more than just an FPS. It was also a platformer, which you got better at as the game went on. By the end of the game, you, as the player, got better at playing the game, your character didn't just get stronger. Your doing platforming and killing guys at the end that you never would have thought you would be able to do at the beginning. I'll wrap it up because I realize I'm not doing a good job at condensing this lol. I like a lot of the little things in Turok that you can just discover. Each level has a hidden secret in it containing a piece of the Chronoscepter, which helps you kill the main boss at the end. If you draw your bow back and wait, you'll see a little sparkle on the tip of the arrow, if you shoot soon after it will one-shot a lot of the enemies you encounter. Something that rewards you for practicing/being more skillful. If you kill humanoids with your knife, they have a chance to drop Mortal Wounds, which give you some health back. Another thing that rewards you and gives you more options on how to play the game. You can make the choice to conserve ammo and try to get some health back, but its more difficult and you could end up taking more damage, its up to you. You can find a secret Vine wall that lets you get an automatic shotgun early, you could discover a clear rainbow bridge that is hard to follow, but if you make it to the end gets you a grenade launcher early. You could find a hidden stairway up some crazy waterfall underground area that leads to the top of a temple with 4 statues surrounding a Chronoscepter piece, and once you grab the piece they come alive and attack you. You can't find any of this kind of stuff in Turok 2. They made the levels larger and more confusing, upping the playtime, added arbitrary objectives like "find 5 Kids" or "pull 3 levers" and other video game tropes, and did away with platforming or any skill-based gameplay. So I'm done lol. Sorry about the rant, but I enjoy thinking about this kind of stuff. Hope it didn't come off as too negative, I do like Turok 2, if mostly out of nostalgia, and I played it a lot. But everyone's different, and its cool that there are 2 different Turoks that different kinds of people can enjoy.

You didn't come off as negative. As for Turok 2, I forgot what else the story was about. Something related to the Primagen attempting to see the creation of the universe and getting trapped because of it. The first game definitely was simpler.

@@matthewbeckham Couldn’t have said it better. Not sure why so many praise the second game and ignore the first. The only issue I have with the first game is the lack of multiplayer. Also, mortal wounds not only heal you but they also raise your max health. I did a knife and bow only run and had a blast.
