Turtle Beach Recon 500 headset repair and fix

Details the steps I took to repair this Turtle Beach headset.
The headset was crackling, the microphone was not working.
This model is the Recon 500, but the steps would be similar for the Turtle Beach Stealth models or any other wired Xbox, Playstation or PC headset that uses a jack connection.
The specific wire used in this video is here: www.aliexpress...
You could also go the route of buying a jack socket:
www.ebay.co.uk...
and a handful of jack-to-jack cables:
www.ebay.co.uk...
That way, when they fail in the future (they will fail eventually) it will be trivial to pull out the bad cable and plug in a new one.

On mine the problem was the wire that goes over the top of the head strap. Sort of guessed it would be, but knowing there are contact points for continuity testing was good to know. Thanks!

first things first. add heat shrink right in the beginning of usage.

@@tyler17728 the heat shrink wrap is the rubber wrap that goes around the cable that shrinks around the cable when exposed to heat

Personally i would have mount a 3.5mm female headphone jack instead.

Mine is brand new but it’s just too quiet idk if that’s how the headset is but I’m very upset

Perhaps stating the obvious, but have you checked the volume dial on the headphones themselves, and also the volume settings on whatever it is you’re plugged into?
