Been using the Lucas for years. I’ve tried others over the years when I see something that appears to be promising, but they always end up in the back of the cabinet and the Lucas stays up front. I don’t care about durability in a detailer I use it on my Harley frequently to get rid of fingerprints, water spots, etc. Its the easiest,quickest detailer to apply and remove of all the ones I used.

Been using the lucas product for years and have never found anything that i like better as far as ease of application (shade or sun). Wipe on wipe off., its perfect. Its a detailer and for that its great. I would never use it as a barrier coat.

I love Lucas Oil Slick Mist and it is one of my all time favourite quiick detailers when you want something glossy, super easy to use and slick without really negatively effecting the ability of your base coat to repel water. The Turtle wax would have a negative effect on it in this instance so wouldn't be something I would go for. I alternate between Fk425 and slick mist with the odd layer of diluted Sonax BSD (amongst others) to revive protection every few months when I want a top up. As for quick detailers I believe the polar opposite. QDs are far more useful, easier to use with more gloss and often more durable than spray waxes as well depending on which one you use. A spray wax is just about the only thing I don't have in my detailing arsenal in fact. Ps. The fireball cinnamon scent of slick mist is amazing.

Turtle Wax Ice is great. I switched from megs ultimate quik wax and haven't looked back. It lasts long enough for me in between washes, and gives a really nice shine. I've even had people come up to me and ask what I use to keep my car shining and I just show them the bottle. It's a great solid product.

Great review! TW Ice is like a freak of nature. I wanted to see how it will work on my windshield, so I had one side TWIce Spray Wax and the other side Megs Ultimate Quik Detailer. Megs didn’t last one rainstorm, but the ICE side still slick and beading like it was applied on Day 1. Very Impressed.

Lucas Slick Mist Speed Wax was the first product I used on my car when I bought it 12 years ago. There wasn’t any comparisons like this back then and it was all about using whatever your buddy used. Lots of my Corvette buddies used Lucas but have since switched over to Adams.

Turtle Wax Ice for $11 Lucas for $10?? I have used both of these products and picked them up at Walmart. Ice is $7 Lucas is around $6. Why the hell do peole still go to autozone for products? Its overpriced...parts, maybe if you cant wait for shipping after buying online, but Autozone , Oreilly's , Advanced..its all just overpriced. Its like detailers are embarassed to mention Walmart. Who the fuck doesnt go to Walmart for one thing or another? Its unavoidable. Another thing I realize is unless you own a show vehicle or a garage queen than ANY of these 2 will work. The only thing debatable is how long one application actually lasts. I have a Porsche and believe me the Porsche community is full of dummies selling this "bro-science" type of product and bigger dummies who buy them and will swear by the product. In reality they are tossing money away. I used the whole range, from Wolfgang, to Pinnacle all the way to cheap $4 turtle wax, as long as you dont abuse the paint , the paints today are made to last, all you have to do is coat them with an extra barrier, no need for high priced magic products. I use both of these and both are great, paint is as good as new and shines like a mirror. One thing I notice is that the Lucas actually is better at not allowing bugs to stick on too much. I think the Ice lasts a little longer though. But you cant go wrong with either of these.

Excellent spot on post! So many are switching from one to the next flavor of the month when all of these are great products anymore. Who is applying once every 3-5 months? I apply QD, 2-3 times a week on my daily driver to remove bugs, pollen, etc so super long "life" or chemical resistance is quite a laughable concern for any spray on products that will be applied many times per month. Other hand my sports cars only see dry sunny days but get a QD wipe down before each outing to remove any garage dust or bugs from the last drive. So they get "recoated" every 50-100 miles in reality. I want a product that has the most gloss and is easy to use with no streaking, especially in humid conditions. Water beading or hydrophobic properties don't mean much when it may be 5 yrs before these cars are dirty enough to actually wash the car getting them totaly wet.

I think you should post a chart in your videos that rank the products in categories of wax, sealant, ceramic, hybrid ect. That way we know where you left off, and who's leading the leaderboards. Kind of like the Oil test guy. Then also do a comparison of the top brands in each category versus each other.
@z1522

The ICE liquid full wax product has proven adequate for protection, especially if used twice a year. The quick spray version also has been very useful when going after spots where bird droppings have set, and to date no damage to the clear coat shows. Protection and longevity are the two primary concerns, and one should use only the appropriate mild wash agents and not obviously much harsher and stronger agents on car finishes. It is informative to see what withstands mistreatment, but nothing beats retesting after weeks/months in the field subject to weather and sun. Since the general demise of the Slick 50 engine treatment era, the "ceramic super treatment" aftermarket finish game is the new realm for misinformation and snakeoil promises, guaranteed only to separate gullible auto-obsessive types from their money.

i won't disrespect turtle wax, they have a lot of excellent products. turtle wax is budget friendly and you can get it at Walmart along with some Monster energy drink and a butterfinger. Autozone is expensive on a lot of general maintenance products vs Walmart. If you are looking at Interior cleaners, try Spray Nine. Brian from Apex detail pointed me in that direction. I told him I was looking for an interior cleaner with antibacterial and for less than 4 bucks at Walmart for 32 ounces. Save yourself some money and check Walmart first before paying Autozone prices.

In a game where one of the goals is to have as little cure time possible even a few seconds matter. The turtle spray had a pretty massive advantage having been done first and having more time to set up and adhear to the paint. You also than coated the lucas first and far more thoroughly with that remover spray as where you only got a few foam bubbles on the turtle wax and you basically rinsed it off immediatly as where it sat on the lucas for a minute. Id like to see you do the same test in reverse order and them barely even put any romover on the lucas and see how your results are looking. Regardless, i would even still have to agree that the turtle wax does appear to be tge more resistant of the two. Again id like to see this done in reverse order but as of now, id have to agree with you and the results.

I made a mistake by purchasing Slick Mist to replace a bottle of Meguiar’s Quick Wax. I think it sucks in comparison. I’m not a car detail expert, but found that the Lucas felt much wetter, while The Meguiar’s felt much “waxier” and in my opinion shined much better.
@samuraiska320

Same! It was cheap all they had on the shelf. Seemed very watery I wasn't sure, still not sure if it's providing any protection. Although the shine with the Lucas is awesome. But I am sticking with TW Black Acrylic Wax. I have a black car.

Ok, so I clay my car, I then use HD Speed, then Mother's and Maguire's spray wax (both brands), then Lucas. Shine and protection lasts from Sept. to May thru Chicago winters. It might be overkill but my 2015 red pearl Chrysler looks brand new. I let the wax cure for 3 days before driving. Car is garage kept. No rust anywhere.

I just agree with your statement about quick wax. I think it would be very nice for a quick wax to last a long time and be durable and some of them are starting to last longer. I actually have switched from mothers and Maguires which I was using on a regular basis to turtle wax it seems you get more for the money and the product is easier to use you can use it in the direct sunlight and with a hot car. Lexol sucks. It really does. You think it's cleaning but it's not breaking down any oil/grease. It's safe but weak. Try using it on a leather steering wheel and then try something like Megs APC or leather cleaner (the one w/o the conditioner added - just cleaner) and you will see what Lexol is actually missing. I used to swear by it until I realized it's really not effective,
@kikcodog
@kikcodog 5 лет назад
Here is something I have come to realize and maybe Jimbo can confirm. If after you use a product on car leather it's tacky at all it's actually still dirty with skin oils and such and it wont just wipe off because it's bonded to the leather's coating. I found Lexol just can't break it up so it can be removed. Just mho.

Why do you all guy say “consumer” grade products lol. A vast majority of all this stuff you guys buy and test are all “consumer grade” especially since the introduction of amazon. I think A good example of an non consumer or retail product would be that glassparency window coating. To use it they make you take a 45 minute block of instruction to become certified in the use and application of it and to be a dealer sell it. I don’t know but it’s always bothered me when other detailers try to embellish or exaggerate something to. Maybe it’s game recognizing game but I hate it. What makes a detailed a good detailed is knowledge, application and refinement. Not some “professional” or “consumer” grade stuff. I don’t know why I’m ranting, I love your content but I said it and I’m done lol

P & K K , gotta be careful with rubbing compound since it can potentially remove A LOT of material. I wouldn’t use rubbing compound with a machine unless you have lots of experience. Clay bar is a great entry level product that is easy enough for Joe Weekend to use.

What would you suggest for a great shine on a rust free 2004 Chevy duramax white in color. Got the truck from Texas and only drive it in summer. Wondering what you would suggest for a great shine and longevity. Thanks for any input!

@@autodetailingpodcast do you think it would be beneficial to clay bar the truck and use iron x (I live in the suburbs of NY so there's no iron in our water really)
