Great video. I enjoy watching proficeint 3d modelers like you. I know it would be more work, but it would be great to either have subtitles, audio dialog, or onscreen text explaining your process and why your doing certain steps. I'm somewhat proficient so I'm able to follow along for the most part, but I started to get lost when you were mirroring, rebuilding, and matching the surfaces over and over to again. Looking back at the video I understand why you were doing it, but it would be great to be able to follow along in the moment.
Thanks! Very nice and constructive opinion, by the way! I completely understand your point of view. Since "Blend surface" does not perform well with degree 1 input surfaces, I rebuilt the primary surfaces to single-span degree 5 with 6 control points, because that's the optimal geometry to build blend surfaces. The mirroring that followed the previous step was done to save time, because I already had rebuilt surfaces at one side, so I wanted to skip repeating the whole process on the opposite side. This also ensures that I work with a totally symmetrical geometry at either side. The same goes for the mirroring of the vertical cutting planes that I used to split the circular extrusion. Rhino's "Match surface" has its shortcomings, so to solve the issue with inability to match to multiple surfaces and still maintain curvature continuity, usually I match the most important (larger) surface edges with G2, then I switch to G1 for the less important edges. I repeat that several times, because "Match surface" improves the continuity after each iteration. However, this must be done with care, because sometimes it may break the surface continuity and make it worse. Usually I try to hover my mouse over icons for extra long time, in order to let my viewers see what I'm doing and understand the process. Many so-called "tutorials" on RU-vid use fast pacing and even professionals are unable to figure out what's going on on the screen. Note that this is a quick free tutorial made for a Rhino user on the Rhino forum who asked for tips about creating a pretty simple air duct adapted. I also create private video tutorials on demand with deeper explanation of every step.
Hi, I use a 3d mouse by "3Dconnexion" (a subsidiary company of "Logitech") called SpacePilot. You can check their latest devices here: 3dconnexion.com/us/spacemouse/
Cool :) Can you explain what exactly you dislike about my willingness to share knowledge with the others? Your opinion can help me create better content in the future.
