That was lovely, thank you for sharing and for using the word evocative in regards to the ukulele. I would place one word in front of evocative, endlessly.

What a great introduction to Campanella. I love this explanation. Shame it’s too cold for the ice cream van!

Thanks Matthew! Is it really ever too cold for ice cream?

Thanks very much Sam, Mr. Whippy brings back memories of Summer holidays on the beach at Blackpool! I can't play anything at the moment because I have Tendonitis in my right arm. I'm taking the pills!! Take Care, David. xx

Hi David, so sorry to hear about your tendonitis! I hope it gets better soon and you can return to playing but do take it easy. All the best, Sam xx

Thanks a lot. Since few years, I don't know my favorite playing is like this on guitar. And now on tenor uke. Beginning with arpegios perhaps slowly ?

May your recuperation be quick and complete! That experience must have been scary. A question: From what piece is the campanella example at the end of the video? 🔔

Thanks Karla! That is a little French Dance called Tourdion. I've just popped the sheet music on Patreon (we have done it before but it's easiest just tp share again). Alternatively you can email me and I'll send the PDF.

What a lovely explanation and demonstration of Campanella Samantha. Thank you. I've heard the term a lot.....but until your video.......couldn't quite get my head wrapped around the concept. Will we one day see a "Little Book of Campanella" to go with your other "Little" books? As well as a "Little Book of Baritone"? I'm glad to hear that you're recuperating and will soon be back to making videos. Cheers, Jim

Thanks Jim! I like the idea of a Little Book of Campanella and definitely will be working on a baritone book as soon as I'm feeling stronger. Just taking it easy for a few days. All the best, Sam

@@SamMuirUkulele This sounds great Samantha! I've been playing some of your pieces out of your 12 Progressive Studies and 21 Studies book on my baritone.......as well as my High G tenor. Some work well on the baritone and some not so much. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Take your time healing. It can be a bit of a slow process. Cheers, Jim

You're welcome, Sam! BTW, My partial take on Campanella - Tone clusters fingered as chords played as arpeggios equal scale fragments, which is a very cool property of the ukulele.@@SamMuirUkulele

@@FlipPeters hmmm. Isn't a tone cluster a group of adjacent notes in a chromatic scale played in unison, thus making it a chord? Even if you arpeggiate that chord your description seems to cloud the issue as notes in a campanella are definitely melodic. The fingerings do, however, become chordal which is really cool. Interesting discussion!

@@SamMuirUkulele Maybe I have the definition wrong. I thought of it as any group of adjacent notes, whole or half steps apart, played together. I'll check in with Google for the definition.

Thank you for your tutorial! So, in playing Campanella, the idea is to keep the notes sounding for as long as one practically can. This will involve sounding subsequent notes on adjacent etc strings. This is slightly different from using sympathetic resonance which depends more on the perfect fifth and octave intervals, although I guess one could use this too in creating Campanella sound?
@SamMuirUkulele
@SamMuirUkulele 10 месяцев назад
Thanks Terry! The over-ringing is central to the campanella effect. If 5th and octave were involved they would certainly add to the mix.

@@SamMuirUkuleleI’ve always thought the style sounded magical. It tends to play little tricks on my ears. It’s fascinating. You make it look so effortless.

I just read Karla's question below, which was the same as my previous question. Thank you for your reply and I'll look for it in Patreon. I really appreciated your explanation of Campanella.
