A hint that I use, cause I'm too impatient, I spray or mist my pages. By using this method, I get different shades of color. But I love how you get the lines & circles. Because I spray, I can use different stencils to give patterns. I also Kool aid dyed so I add more than one color to my pages. Hope this helps someone with ideas for their next paper dyeing day.

Mary how do you use stencils? Cuz i’m used to using the oven. So you dry them on a table and when you do that, do the stencils go on the table first then your coffee paper?

Great video. I have a cat that has to be on the table while I’m crafting. He also loves coffee. We discovered this because he would get on the counter and take the little grate out of the drip tray of the coffee maker and lick the coffee that had dried in the drip tray. Well, when I started journal making I started coffee dying paper and lace. I couldn’t keep the cat out of my stuff. I was constantly finding him in my craft room licking the lace and paper! I had to switch to tea. Thanks for sharing your tips!

Cecilia my cat is the same. About all things. If I sit at my working table in seconds he’s over my notebook, or my bills... if I’m having lunch his on the counter watching me... but never eats anything. Just wants to be near me. Love it. He’s Siamese and my best friend! Only thing I have to hide are the CABLES!!! iPhone, MacBook, Kindle. All destroyed several times. ❣️

Fernanda Christensen Gama Mine is the same about everything too. Not just crafting. My husband tries to work and the cat wants to get on the keyboard of his laptop. Sleeping at night he has to be cheek to cheek but his whiskers tickle my face. 😂

Great video, I’d never thought of using different ‘gridded’ trays to get those great effects. One other thing I have done is after following your process, when the paper is on your cookie sheet and wet sprinkle a very few grains of the instant coffee - preferably on the wettest areas then leave it a minute before putting in the oven. The grains partially dissolve & leave ‘age spots’. Once dried brush the undissolved coffee off and you’re ready to go.

@CzBrat81
@CzBrat81 6 лет назад
Thanks! You have me looking at pans and trays differently. I had my own coffee dying going while I was watching and needed more pans. Lesson I learned: a cupcake pan gives the paper really nice circles and if you lay the paper out in the bottom of the roaster pan (like the one you are using to hold the coffee), you end up with great arches dyed into your paper.

I am a potter. One of the decorative ways to glaze pots is to use a masking technique to exclude the glaze from saturating areas of the pot. I’ve use tape and wax and pieces of paper with designs cut out (you get the idea) to create designs I like on my pots. I can imagine that same technique working here. The one thing I wonder about is that I might not get as many random markings on the paper. I guess I’ll just try it out and see how it goes. I’ve been on a Celtic kick of late. I really like the intricate knot work found in ancient Celtic art. Thanks for the inspiration. I love your videos.

I've watched lots of videos on coffee dying, and they've all just not worked for me, either coz they've not worked, or they've just made too much mess, had too much to set up and took up too much space etc... Then I saw this, and that you used a brush.... And that was pure genius! I found a brush, used just a small punnet off coffee etc and they've turn out fantastic, plus I enjoyed making them! So thank you!!

I3m glad you do...her non stop talking drives me crazy and so unorganized. Walked away to get hot water instead of having a kettle of boiling water..walked away from view to throw away the elastic wrapper...walked away to put the paper to dry...she is right handed and is reaching over to paint the paper...put it to your right side... organization... I've tried watching her but I'm to the point i have to move on.

Flowers Flowers- I’m glad you’ve realized this isn’t the place for you. We all have different gifts, and often the most artistically creative are also a little less organized(or in my case, more less organization. She also explained that she was having difficulty focusing her camera. Gail has a true gift. And as you can see, she has many viewers, so one less won’t matter, especially one that cannot offer constructive criticism. You have the right to voice your opinion, but wouldn’t it be nicer to leave a lovely woman and her gifts on a kinder note?(or in this case, no note) Couldn’t we all, including you, use a little more Kindness? Blessings and health to all, and I do mean all❣️

TFS Gayle... I use my dehydrator... placing several layers on each tray. It has the diamond pattern on the trays, which I love. I plan to look for some other shapes after watching your video. One of the things I like about using the dehydrator is I can dip and stack several layers and once the whole 10 trays are filled. I can walk away. My patience ran out with using the oven so I started air drying which took days with the multiple layers I would place on parchment paper sheets I used as dividers to easily pick up each group. Love the idea of painting the coffee on the digital pages. Thank you for the great video!

excellent, thk u! i tried mrs cog’s procedure and i ripped a LOT of pages bcz they were stuck together and saturated. they did come apart after dried, but i made a mess of it. she made it look so easy! i am definitely going to try the paint brush method. and i LOVE the composition notebook method. u rock gayle!
