Hello Y B O T. Looks like I'm in on the ground floor of a new adventure in life for you. I am a retired man in the UK. Brilliant to see a young man with enthusiasm and drive and not content to be a passenger in life. I wish you sincerely all the very best for the future. Stay safe and well, Norm.
Ahh thank you! Very kind words, my mum read your comment and told me about it, can’t wait to share my future experiences with you and all my other subscribers! Best wishes, Finn
@@youngbritishoutbacktruckerhi mate I’ve just passed my HC. I’m in the same situation as you, and I had my Class 1 for more than 1 years in the UK. Can you give me info on the MC upgrade course?
Great videos, been in South Australia for 11 yrs came here on a PR visa ,used to drive HC or C+E , had to retake truck licence but as you have stated it’s pretty straightforward, I work for a vegetation management company and my job is to move Trucks around SA , its one of the best truck driving jobs i have ever had. And i get to see a lot of SA you don’t normally get to see . Love your videos great content, safe Trucking. 🤙🏽
Every state is different and from what I've been told Queensland is the only state that recognises the UK HGV\LGV licence. Every other state makes you start from the bottom again. I was in the same boat as you 8 years ago in the fact I needed to convert my UK C+E for work (I'm a truck/diesel mechanic). I contacted Brisbane Truck School who gave me the option of doing either my HC or MC (so obviously I went for the big lad licence 😂) which at the time was only an extra $300 more than HC. As someone has already pointed out though there are also different restrictions to your HC/MC so if you want more options for work my suggestion would be to go for the "open" licence (roadranger/crash gearbox). It takes some getting used to but will open many more doors especially in rural companies where the majority of companies run Kenworth's with roadrangers. Good luck with the future 👍🏻
I see that you passed your test with Bassetts, what a blast from the past for me, I did 4 years long distance for them back in the early 90s. Good luck on your journey
Welcome. Much harder to go the other way! 2o years with a hc [class 1] and I had to start from scratch. Rigid first then articulated. I saw a lot of the UK and it was easy to find good work with good equipment.
Very well done video. Great information. Any one thinking of comming to our great land, there are a lot of long distance drivers needed. Getting into road train work is the ultimate work in driving. If you get in and prove yourself, you have a job for life. Just expect to be away for a week, or even much longer at a time. But you getvto see more of Australian than a lot of locals ever will. Mine work you will likely be on a fixed run. Farm or general long distance you could be any or every where. Thank you for great video. Stay safe
Ahh if I could turn the clock back. Very helpful video for anyone wanting to give this a go best of luck to you. Looks like you’re already winning over there well done👏👏👏👍🏼👍🏼
Good information. You didn’t mention that within the HC/MC categories, you can have different options depending on the type of gearbox your driving. I went for the open licence, which as you will know allows you to drive all types. The trouble with nearly all UK truckers is that they don’t have experience with crash gearboxes any more, and that included me, even though l had driven them many years ago. Because of this l went on about five one hour lessons to get used to driving crash boxes again, (l found this very worthwhile). Also most job adverts ask you to have had at least a couple of years experience driving crash boxes. And then we’re back to the old “catch 22” situation. Safe driving……….from an ex pommy now living the dream on the Sunshine Coast.
Well youngman ive just become your 200th like good luck in Aus could have been there if id followed up on my application way back as a £10 pom ! I regret it to this day, look forward to you vids and adventures in AUS, John, North Wales UK 🏴🏴
Good video mate. I did a very similar thing to you, except I did long haul in Canada/US. I have to say though, don't work too much. It's a mistake I made. Got to see a huge chunk of the US, but not nearly enough time drinking there.
If you want a change of countries give NZ a try you will get a job with Fonterra there the biggest employer of drivers over here & are the best paid slightly higher than fuel tanker drivers i think.. All truck & trailers (draw bars) go round picking up milk from farms so as you have that experience you will get a job on there easy there are quite a few brits drive for them & its a well respected company & good money. All the best ex UK trucker in NZ .
What an exciting adventure. After you’ve done your second visa holiday there, can you stay there permanently as a trucker? Is it easy to get residence permit there after second visa holiday?
Amazing video mate, I’ve been Googling for so long trying to find these answers. Already on my second year aus visa now (ending in may) but now decided I want to start getting my truck licenses. As I don’t have time to go through the 1 year wait for each aus license step (because not enough visa time) - looks like I’ll be better to go home, get my class 2&1 and then come back for my 3rd year visa once I have over 1 year experience driving in the uk? Cheers brotha
I'm trying to figure this all out myself before I move in April 2024. This video has been really helpful. I've just passed my Cat C and wanted to get my C+E before I arrive, but the 'funding' scheme here is a literal con! However, there isn't much point now, as I'd only need to redo the theory & practical tests all over again when I arrive - but the 1year wait to upgrade from HR to HC (and then MC) is not clearly written anywhere, so thanks for sharing that. Luckily I'll have my Cat C for a year, but won't have any proof of working as a driver for that year - hopefully I'll still be exempted from waiting to upgrade to HC and then MC. I've also looked at cairns truck school - they are the only one I've found that clearly lay out whats included - and offer 1-2day courses - and they state the price (which 99.9% others don't). So that's a great recommendation. Thanks for sharing this - it's been a REAL help. I've messaged 4 recruitment companies and they have been utterly useless with this.
Iv been driving class 1 for 8 years. I came to Perth in August 2023 done my HC but when I asked about doing my MC I was told I have to hold the HC for 1 year in aus before I’m able to go in for the MC. Where did you take your tests? I wonder if the rules are different in other states
I’m moving to Australia and was pulling my hair out trying to find answers literally just been on the photo to the DOT he told me that if your on a working holiday visa your uk lorry licence class 1 and class 2 are valid. But it’s only if you want to become a permit resident then you’ll have to redo the tests!!! This is the information I got from Queensland anyway hope that helps
I have always wanted to have a go at doing this!!! What is the work life balance like on these trucks in Aus is it better than what you get when you tramp class 1 in the UK..
Hello, young man. Just wanted to say, "Well done, you look like you're really carving out a life for yourself, bravo. I myself have been looking at doing what you're doing, but I'm 53 years old, so the first visa option isn't available for me. What's your thoughts on the company's out there helping to provide visas? Hope you have a great, safe time. If you have any replies or thoughts on my questions, thanks
I'm a Canadian driver with our equivalent Class 1 (which is a Class 1, we're allowed to pull doubles though fresh out of school.) Been hoping to make my way over to Aus and learn their deal. I'm only 20 though so I've got a lot ahead of me.
Looking to do the same as you when I move from the UK. How did you prove that you'd drove their equivalent of a class 1. Did you show them your original pass certificate.
Hello brother, looking to come to Australia and settle as a truck driver, 37 years of age had my licences for over five years, so wondering if you have any information regarding visa as I’m not eligible for holiday visa.
