This is why your my favorite tech RU-vidr! Thank you for this video. I do have a feeling Samsung may allow turning off GOS easier after all of this negative press. However, I did realize that FPS throttled down to same after 4 minutes or gameplay.
Guarantee it will be at least a month or a little longer before they do that. Really all this shouldn't be an issue. We're paying over $1,000 for a phone, it should be the consumer's choice to enable or disable the GOS app.
I think there's a way to disable the whole game optimization apps stuff through Android adb interface and then you don't have to keep this app blocker thing running
Also Samsung promised that they will put a switch in the settings that will allow users to disable GOS limitations. So soon you won't need this blocker app
The thing is, you are getting a very small fps boost around 5 fps (10 at best in some places) for almost 3x the energy usage. Your battery will go down 3 times faster, and your phone heat up a lot more. It can actually be dangerous for the hardware. Samsung isn't stupid and their engineers have for sure very strong reasons to turn down the phones performance. However, it's very nice as an end user to be able to have some control over this, so it's still nice that we can actually disable it if we want
True, but i think if GOS is limiting other apps performance like instagram or even camera app itself, it may be worth disabling. However for games its definitely a good thing to have as shown here
It is not whether we should or should not enable or disable GOS. . With this type of information samsung is in evidence of selling top phones overpowered without Developing technology to match processors vs heat dissipation. I think your point is valid about not worth it the "overclocking"but this should not be a trick on a 1300 euros phone. I think heat dissipation technology lacks a lot of development or at least samsung is not willing to invest in it even when we know about there has been a lot of new information about heat dissipation lately. Even with the vapor chamber in the s22 it seems to be obsolet already... Samsung has been exposed in selling race cars to match the competitors but putting them a governor in the gas throttle when the demo has finished.
@@evelynlopez8314 I don't think that is the whole issue. GOS is a symptom of a larger issue. Phones always struggle in dissipating heat, if you can't control the heat dissipation. you control the heat output. which is what GOS is doing. Golden Reviewer takes a temperature reading of the device. And Samsung phones run cooler [at the expense of performance] GOS is doing it's job. it keeps the power consumption below 5W. In their eyes sacrificing performance for battery life/thermals is a tradeoff they're willing to accept and have been for the past 4 years. GOS is a symptom that S.LSI and ARM's in design chips have not been able to match or exceed Performance per Watt of that found in Qualcomm and Apple's Silicon. This is the band-aid that they've been using to meet their power requirements. Now what i'd like it to be possible is to disable it outright, yes maybe it's better for my battery to not get as hot. but my phone is my phone. I did the workaround, now my phone runs just as hot as it did back in One Ui 3. It also coincidentally runs Honkai better than it does stock.
For me who usually gets average of 25fps, I'll gladly take the 10fps increase 😂 and it does work. Now my average fps without gos is around 30-40fps which was never experienced on my S21u exynos 😂 it does generate a bit of extra heat but its worth it as long as you don't play for over an hour. First testing I did without gos I started with 80% battery and after 1hr and 30mins of gaming I was left with 20% battery. Using mobile data and with graphics at max. Now I still game without gos but at medium graphics. Still heats up tho but just as it would when playing pubg. Maybe at most 1° hotter
@@psycho3324 indeed it is not only a software stopper issue. But i still think processor manufactures and in this case samsung are building super fast phones and merchandising them as such but only on their conditions. Technology is there but they ate not willing to sacrifice one feature for overall better results for gamers. In example check lenovo duel there are many fails in the designed however there are sacrificing ip rating for better thermal conditions and thid is only the tip of the iceberg there so many thermal dissipation articles in the web and how to lower heat in exynos or qualcomm even cheap chipsets companies but as i said they are not willing to cross the line. I think shortly they should include a gaming option.for S series.
Very helpful. My problem wasn't with too little power, but auto locking refresh rate. Only change I'd recommend is using android sdk platform tools instead of that app. After disabling those 3 apps, my phone stopped locking my refresh rate to 48hz when playing intense games. Edit: if you only want to disable variable refresh rate for games (and not boost power usage) leave game optimization services ON. The refresh rate will still be constant, but you won't be wasting that extra power.
@@PedroHenrique-xp4wdIt takes more setup, but I like that it fully disables the apps instead of just stopping them from connecting to the Internet. Here's a setup tutorial: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OSp5_wBAVyQ.htmlsi=ynz4HOVKTuD_Qb7I

@@cool9282 unfortunately. I love this device for beautiful screen, cameras this zoom something beautiful. But battery is first problem for me as sometimes I am away like 12h a day from charger and need to be sure phone will handle so long, another thing I am a bit worried about is those problems with smoothness and games lags like hel. If I would knew they will fix it in next 2weeks I would be sure I would leave the device (and also that they will do something about this battery life, I don't need 8h SoT like iphone 13pro max well that would be great but i can live without so much, all I need is a 1 full day of my usage which is not so heavy, 5,5-6h SoT and I am happy my 2,5years old OnePlus 7 pro which I just plugged to a charger had 6:20h sot with 18% battery left.
I use Lycan method on my S20 FE 5G. This method seems easier as it doesn't require to start the app before the data/Wi-Fi. The setup steps is a bit more than NetGuard's but still worth it. And as a bonus, it can disable the services too instead of the entire app, great for controlling app's behaviour (there's a risk of that app crashing, for sure).
As we know the weakness of ARM Cortex X2 architecture is heat management. I think that why some manufacturers make control and we can't experience the full potential of SOC.
Hi. I write this comment, maybe its help someone. I disabled the gos, like in the video but thats all, i did nothing else from this video. + Hint If you are using 5g internet instead wifi, turn it only 4g ( LTE ) 5g make it more heating. For me, now the gaming performamce far better. Anyway i cant say abour the more heating thing, cause i play wild rift on my galaxy s22 EXYNOS phone nearly medium settings, its anyway heat the phone and drain the battery so... :D Anyway thank you for the video, its helps a lot to deactice gos!
Any difference with Game Plugins Custom settings? Choose Focus on performance option You can change Resolution (It says Graphics quality: 30% to 100%) You can change max fps - from 15 to 60 fps (5 fps per dot)

@Morpheus temp was high for me but it was worth it, i'm using an s21ultra, played at medium graphics with max fps and there was no lag even in br, to me this is absolutely amazing cuz i was playing on low settings ans there was still at ton of lag, i didn't understand why this was happening cuz when i first got the phone, i played on max settings for everything and there was no lag at all but thanks to this video i think i'll once again be able to play at max settings with no lag
@@ridgefrost Did you update the One UI to the newest? That could be the reason, a lot of people say that since they updated to One ui 4, the performance has drastically decreased.
@Davidoko12 yes i did and you know it could be the reason, my phone started heating up alot even for mandane tasks at times and with heat comes throttling i've tried everything but nothings changed, somedays its better than somedays its worse i've just learned to deal with it and hope for the best
@@ridgefrost yep, that's what they say. For that reason I haven't updated my S20 , even though my device says the update is ready I'll just ignore it. I'm gonna stay on One 3.1, because in this version my device is still flying. Won't risk to lose that for a couple of "new" things in One ui 4+. But anyways I hope they soon correct it, because a lot of people are having a bad time rn with the newest update. They'll have to make it more reliable or something. Edit:Even though I like Samsung, idk sometimes I feel that samsung is screwing up everything. It is not normal, that in a high end device like yours people are struggling these hard, as If the device were a much lower , or cheaper device.
You can definitely alter physics though. Almost everyone has some old charge adapter for some old device they no longer have sitting around. Find one that outputs around 9v(up to 12v will work but 12v will be full speed fan spin only, 9v will be like 75% roughly, oh and a low-ish amperage to be safe, mine is 0.6A and the fan is 0.2 so it should only draw 0.2a) and wire it up to a pc fan. if lazy aim pc fan at phone and lay it on a table and it'll help cool it, if you feel inspired make some sort of cooling "stand" out of cardboard(cut a hole in the bottom of a box, put fan inside that, cut box to be level with your table or whatever, cut intake holes otherwise fan has nowhere to draw from). My phone feels cold to the touch in a 27C room with the fan running on slow speed(if its a 4 pin you can hook up the 2 extra control pins to each other which kills the fans speed by like 60%, perfect for quiet mode. Apparently they have some sort of PWM resistor inside, idk how it works but ive been using it like this for a week without an issue) Assuming ofcourse you're playing on controller or a m/kb game here and outputting to a tv, good luck holding a fan on while playing touchscreen games lol
Galaxy S10+ with Exynos 9820 here, definitely saw an improvement. I'm running the game at a combination of medium/high settings, with framerate mostly staying in the 60/high 50s mark. FPS will dip a little lower during heavy combat or when the back gets too hot, but still, nowhere near as bad as the agressive throttling Samsung did that made the game pretty much unplayable after just a few minutes. Also, for folks who haven't update your OS, up until Android 11 there was a way to completely remove the GOS app through adb. Look it up and there should be a tutorial thread on XDA.
When playing wild rift, my s10+ exynos version, already heats up a lot, I'm afraid of damaging the phone by disabling GOS, when playing longer sessions. ^^ idk if it's worth for others apps.
Thanks man this helped me soooo much. I only need to play on phone when I am travelling and it was a nightmare on my S21 Ultra. Now it's almost buttery smooth! I just need it to be playable so it does the job ^^
*Can you guys try this method with power saving mode turned on as well? I wonder if by limiting CPU to 70% but keeping GPU unlocked we can see better performance but less heat? Also looking into Force 4x MSAA and disable hw overlays.*
Galaxy S21+ Exynos model, confirmed working on Honkai Impact also, the game is so much smoother on APHO2 mode, but also heats up so much faster too. Good thing i have a peltier cooler for this thing. Thanks a lot man! Now we need Samsung to address this, and let us have a toggle to do this officially.
Did you try this method with power saving mode turned on as well? I wonder if by limiting CPU to 70% but keeping GPU unlocked we can see better performance but less heat.
@@soul-the_argonaut5211 try APHO2 with maxed settings. It's not laggy per se, there are bunch of stutters when you move between areas at high speed (Timido dash), and especially visible when your device starts to warm up when fighting against a lot of enemies or a boss.
Finally a tech video to improve phone performance that actually makes sense than another ordinary video just saying enable FASS 2X or what ever its called....but thatnks for the video man it was helpful
Instead of disabling GOS, you can download Game Booster Plus and then find the game and put it on Max FPS or Max performance. I had FPS issues in another game and I did it, now it works perfectly.
@@TheInchii go to game launcher, then click "more", there you select GamePluggins and that's it, you install Game Booster Plus and put the game on Max FPS.
Thanks GR! I'm coming to the regular s22 from One Plus 7t playing Genshin on mainly Medium settings, and I was shocked to find that sd 855+ performed better than 8 gen 1. This explains it...
6:30 you can see at the graph here that after 4 Minutes the performance is just as bad anyway. The Snap 888+ and 8 Gen 1 build by Samsung are as much of a heater as the Exynos CPU's used to be.
I didn't notice the graph while watching the whole video. But I tried doing this method and played genshin for around 20 minutes, and it felt so much better, there were no stutters, map scrolling was finally at 60 fps everywhere (and not stuttery 20fps), yes there was thermal throttle and yes the phone got VERY HOT, but I had so much better experience that this is insane.
@TechRise performance wise they're almost the same. S22 with GOS off average 44.3fps, 855+ (860) average 45fps. Just that the latter is a $200 phone which is very impressive.
@@roahnosh while it maybe true on the spreadsheet level, doesn't feel like that in real life, probably because parameters like frame pacing, minimum fps, and maximum fps. Before disabling effectively Samsung's throtelling this was a mess of a gameplay.
Great job ! Pleas make same video but with Exynos 2200 version . Im so curious how the new AMD graphic will perform without GOS limitations. Dont forget use a gloves , maybe phone will start a fire 😄
I tried this on my SamsungA9 and it has been really great, i noticed smoother performance and better ms in my game , it has also reduced the overheating of my phone, thanks so much bro❤
Hello Mr Golder Reviewer, first off I always appreciate the videos. Id like to ask, I own an s20+ w the notoriously Trash exynos 990. Battery life is poor since the beginning, and now performance is starting to decline too. I would like to know if disabling this will improve performance across the board and more importantly what impact it has towards the battery screen on time. Some context: quit mobile gaming, just using it for social media so medium to heavy use.
Is there anyway to uncapped the thermal limit on samsung devices? it stays around 35-36c at the highest, performance dropped quite a lot by those limit
Can you please do this for the Exynos model? I am still waiting for mine to arrive so I can't test it, also if you could include the temperature difference between GOS on and off, it'd be great. By the way, PerfTools is a plugin that shows CPU use, GPU use, as well as temperature and framerate on a floating window, it's part of Good Lock if you want to compare it to the software you use for monitoring. Thank you for your work!
I did it and yea it doesn't throttle cpu/gpu now, it never allowed them to get over 70% before (it tries to prevent heating issues instead of throttling when heated) now it's happy to sit at 85%90% and cook itself
F*ck game booster bruh. On my S20U a couple months ago genshin was running 60 fps. Now with the same settings I'm lucky to get over 30. What have they done to GOS
cant wait to see genshin impact on red magic 7 on your channel golden! most of red magic 7 on youtube now not the real play genshin like lvl 20 character lmao
They should rename the app from 'Game' to 'Battery' Optimization, also they should give us the consumer the option to choose if we want battery or performance mode. Just give us simple options in a gaming app with per game settings like, - CPU Max frequency slider for each cluster - GPU Max frequency slider - Toggle to Restrict Background Processes, etc And other simple options like these that people will easily understand.
Pretty sure that's what "optimizations" means. Optimal usually doesn't mean max performance as much as it means balance of battery usage and performance. Personally I prefer GOS on because having it off makes the phone heat up like a laptop which isn't good for a device with no active cooling.
I did this to my S21ultra and the framedrop improved a lot and the game feels more smooth. Codm BR mode. On low graphics and max fps, i can say temperatures don't go up as much as before 🤔 so strange.. i believe this is the best thing to do to your phone and desable that even if you use more battery 😎 I've tried so many "tool apps" to make the game run smooth, but only this made the change 👌
Brilliant video as usual. Would also doing this make the phone smoother with all apps and not just games. I'm looking forward to the exynos review as well please.
@@K71421 I tried to uinstall with adb after every software update but it comes back within seconds.... Samsung has integrated Gos too deep within system that it can't be uninstalled !!
Before I disable GOS, my s21 ultra stutters a lot in genshin, i got like about 20-30fps only and after I disable it and install genshin on galaxy store, my phone can even reach about 45-50fps on high settings. Thanks for ur help
Aside from gameplay, did it make the overall experience of using the phone more pleasurable having GOS off? My s22 ultra snapdragon 12gb is a laggy mess with fps drops even in the system UI and it stuggles even more when multitasking
I have S22 ultra, i have solved it with another way. For games you must use game booster plus plugin in game booster to unlock 60fps (i got 46-60fps) in Genshin (choose max fps, all other setting max, turn off frame booster) . Also to increase the performance, you can choose high performance (there optimal, high, max) (max is not stable in my opinion) in battery setting. Also you can reduce the animation speed to increase snappy UI (in dev mode) . And you can turn off the auto close apps in battery settings too. So S22 can use 100% of the ram. Actually i prefer 48fps in Genshin if they provide it 😂😂
I don't play GI but yesterday I played around with this plug-in too and I'm happy to keep using the max fps for Mario Kart tour. Now that the game supports 60fps it's running smoothly, I won't be disabling GOS for sure but it's nice to know that there's an option for those who want to.
@@Rinnara21 Yeah, I hope they provide a way to disable GOS for those who need to but keep things easy this way for people who rather have a slightly more efficient battery life!
Looking forward to GOS off Exynos Vs Snapdragon, something tells me without the throttle Snap will blow Exynos away, and the lies of "Similar performance" will be exposed
according to previous test done by golden reviewer, xclipse gpu has same power consumption compared to adreno, while adreno has a 30% lead in performance. So, yes, without gos, exynos will be destroyed theoretically.
Or it can be other way around as the AMD GPU is limited by power consumption and hence not being able to run on its full potential. Maybe the Snapdragon gets blown away in the GPU?
That would be great. Also how about a power drain/Performance comparison on say RU-vid, web browsing and a background music or audio playing. I'm curious if you'd lose battery life on non intensive apps too.
It's working with my S20 ultra. Thank you for sharing this amazing trick. Samsung should have let user have an option to disable this GOS app if they don't want to lose their customer. The worst optimization apps ever.
Meu Deus!!
Well I have been trying to get Samsung to realize that the gos worked perfectly fine with one ui 3.1 with the original software that s21 ultra came with the December 2020 software was perfectly fine the games worked perfectly fine also when you disable gos it doesn't fix the frame rate issue actually to get the best performance out of your games you just have to go to the gos app and clear data and open your game and play the only downside is you have to clear the data every time once you close the game before you play
Can you show the average power result before and after throttling like you did before? You can just put it as a picture as well as long as you show it. We also cant read the red text on top left of the smartphones. Can you increase font size and make it black or white? Lastly, could you find out whats the render resolution on genshin? For comparison purposes.
I turned off GOS on my S22Ultra SD variant and tried my emulators. I tried the new build of Dolphin MMJ because GameCube is very hard to emulate. The result was surprising, games were definitely running a lot better with almost zero drops. Nevertheless, temperature did go higher than normal, not like unbearably hot, but definitely hotter. Trying a previous version of the same emulator which also runs better with GOS on, the difference was imperceptible, some areas where I experienced frame drops were fluid, and temperature was pretty good. I am thinking thar because the old version was already running pretty well, the phone didn't need to do much more to improve, therefore temperature didn't go up; whereas the new one that was struggling to perform well did get a higher boost, resulting on a hotter phone.
The game slow because it will limit CPU speed when the temperature is too high and save battery. Just plug in the charger and use mini fan to get the best fps.
Just for fun, can you try dipping the S22 Ultra into water container and do the game test? Its just like the one you do with the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Or, slap the Blackshark Cooler on the back of the S22 Ultra and do the test. I just want to see if the S22 Ultra (SD8G1 and Ex2200) can stay stable 60fps if enough cooling is given.
Or you can use Geforce Now and play Genshin Impact on the cloud at 120fps 1440p on RTX 3080 GPU... Don't make your life complicated when you don't have to :)
Dont know about 60 fps, but it definitely will have a high and stable frame rate when enough cooling is given - even with game optimisation service on. I'm pretty sure it can give a constant 50+ fps frame rate in that case. Can confirm from playing pubg mobile on my s7 and s9. Cooling is all that's required. A fan like the blackshark one will more than do the trick.
@@mks1702 if you keep using your phone in high use while already it's already hot, it might shorten the lifespan of the phone. If you want to keep using it with high power like this, you should buy a cooler from Blackshark or ROG to compensate the high temperature

We can see why Samsung forced GOS on all users, the battery life. If they had let it run at 100% then in these battery life tests the S22 line would have tanked and been well beaten in these battery reviews. Very dodgy by Samsung. The main reason being that they do not throttle the benchmarks. What that means is they fake performance and battery life. I am not arguing against GOS per se, just that users should not have to go through hoops to have the choice. A simple pop-up when we game asking whether you want to disable GOS would have been consumer-friendly, not default throttling. From comment sections it appears 90% plus of Samsung owners never knew that they would never get close to the benchmark scores when playing games, and may explain why 120FPS games are few and far between. Well done to all the techies that have exposed this Samsung practice and it will be all forgotten in a month or so once Samsung has put it right, but to the Samsung apologists that defend this, you should not put brand loyalty above consumer rights. Samsung made a mistake for sure but they responded quickly and come out of it well once they have removed this trick and no doubt Geekbench will repost their scores on their lists.
I already disabled GOS 2 years ago lol I know GOS is causing some performance issues and I reach to samsung customer care for this problem probably they thought I am weired but now this issue is popping out when I disabled GOS my samsung performance increase and run smooth and even games too
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! I had a problem with Clash on Clan on my Samsung S7. The game would be blurry. I would restart it and it would fix the problem but will be blurry again after a few minutes. After using Netguard, my game isn't blurry anymore.
So now that the safety was off, we just need to find a way to cool it down. Does samsung have battery bypass feature? Play with just the brick charger and have battery go idle.

Great, but more heat will reduce the life span of the soc and battery life too. It is a love and hate situation here. More heat=more reverse current in the semiconductor chip of soc causing throttle.
Too much heat is bad, some heat is very normal. It's all about balance and if they made the chip like previous ones there are protections built in for when the phone gets dangerously hot in any one of its components.

I am no gamer but this is why I prefer iOS over Android - things on iOS just work. And no need for such adjustments. I am using S22 Ultra and Pixel 6 Pro along my iPhone 13 Pro and in most scenarios iPhone is better. Daylight camera on S22 Ultra is AMAZING, so is zoom. But shutter lag sucks.
