ANY Watt Power Supply Upgrade for the HP 590 series
Follow this guide and find out how to swap any powersupply into any HP 590 series
HP PSU Proprietary work around was pretty basic.
This is my sunflower hahaha MOBO
STEP 1
In order for the proper functioning of the new PSU we need to jump the Green Signal On wire to a ground.
STEP 2
Determine the mandatory wires you will need
Mandatory wires to motherboard:
4 Wires 12v + Yellow
4 Wires 12v - Black ground
Optional wires to motherboard:
Grey power ok
Green signal On
Black ground
Final Note
In order to completely Power Off the unit I first Shutdown the Computer. Then use a Switch on an Extension Cord to cut power entirely Saving more money in the long run.
The switch is optional can always just Unplug after Shutdown
HP 400 watt PSU L04618-800

This is sketchy as hell... I love it! Fantastic work mate, and to be fair HP really went out of their way to make this PC harder to upgrade than it needed to be. I'm adding a RX 6400 to my Pavilion 590 and swapping out the disk drive with a 1tb SSD (In addition to the 128gb M.2 SSD and 1tb HDD), I'm not confident enough to attempt splicing into a better PSU but I think the 180watt Gold rated PSU it came with will be enough juice to power everything. Coupled with the 16GB RAM I bought and Ryzen 2200g it came with, this should make a decent backup 1080p gaming PC for when I am upgrading/reseting/overclocking my main rig. 😏

I am watching this specifically to see how you handled the plug to the mother board and you never show which cable you connected to which on your new supply and then plugged in but you don’t show it. Do you have an unedited part or any still pictures of the plug into the motherboard? I could care less about the faceplate adapter. Thank you

Can I soilder away the cables starting from inside the PSU So that I can replace them with cables of different color?

Because* HP went out of their way to make power connections and standards that no regular PSU uses... Making it much harder for novices to upgrade. So he did the cuts/splices to bypass the BS from HP's proprietary standard.

Can I just use a standard psu and jump the psu without any splicing?

@@DNANDROID are you talking about the 4 pin connectors that comes with the psu? And can you link me to the adapter?

@@DNANDROID just to confirm, I can use a standard psu that comes with 2 4 pin connectors and a $5 psu jumper to boot this motherboard?

@@johnnytaylor1243 I tried it a few months ago but I couldn't boot it because I couldn't find the power pins to turn the machine on

HP is such a cheap cheap company, their PSU only gives 2 CPU Power and 1 proprietary connector with no SATA power????

That is a really bad power supply that you bought

If RU-vid doesn't delete, I would say it's actually a really crap power supply, only 18 Amps on the 12 Volt, so you only have 210 Watts for GPU and CPU
