Tutorial: DJI Mavic Pro // Tap To Fly

Love your videos Tim ! I live about 45 minutes north of you and have been doing still photography for about 35 years. Im getting ready to take the drone plunge this month. Im wrestling between the Mavic Pro, or the Phantom 4 or 4 Pro. I have learned more about the Mavic Pro from your videos than anywhere else on the internet. Keep up the great videos brother !

Paul, just received our Mavic the other day, and your videos are the #1 reason we can get this thing going and understand it. Also, in your tap to fly video, you talked about manned aircraft. As a pilot, as well as a commercially rated drone pilot, I appreciate what you said and making clear manned aircraft always has the right of way. We are approaching the intersection of not if, but when, we have so many drones in the sky, that collisions will likely occur. It's being responsible and operating inside the guidelines, whether people like them or not, that will keep all of us safe. Appreciate you going out of your way to point that out, despite not being a fan of your area pilots 😄

Absolutely amazing series so far on the DJI Mavic Pro ! I have learned so much from you and your video tutorials, really educational and helpful at a pace I think all of us here on RU-vid can follow and we can certainly rest assured we are learning the best way to achieve our ultimate goal which is to pilot our Mavic safely and be able to understand & utilize every single mode,switch, button and document that pertains to our investment. Hi, Welcome from the UK. Mavic ordered 7th Nov and arrived 5th Jan so watched a heap of tutorials in the meantime. Really like yours. First few flights in UK at -2c but now in Phuket at 32c! Much better and video so much better....no jumping. I think I saw on one You Tube post that you can tap the google map too to set a point, or points. Or it might have been setting Waypoints. That would be a good one for you to cover. It sort of hints you can do that in the DJI manual. Whilst writing, I changed from Sony Xperia to iPad mini. What a difference, all the niggly error messages vanished. I wish DJI would make a longer cable so you dont have to use the USB port with iPads (and most Android phones that have their outlet in the bottom so cable doesnt reach. Warning about Combo carry bag, perspex lens cover hinge snapped off the first timeI carried the Mavic in it and I'm a bit worried about the control sticks having to be bent flat in transit. keep up the good work and safe flying. I just love my Mavic!

I appreciate your respect and "common sense" approach to UAV. The information you provide is easily digested. As a veteran photographer and videographer/editor I see the potential benefit to using a UAV. Not until very recently had I entertained the idea of purchasing one of these b/c it felt it was more of a toy than an investment in photographic equipment. Excellent video - you're a really good teacher. Clear content. Good voice. Friendly professional screen presence. I have had my drone for about 4 days now. I took it to a friend's large ranch to give me lots of room to practice. I especially wanted to begin practicing a few of the intelligent modes - specifically Draw, Tap Fly, Tripod. When using DRAW the flight was perfect. Fly to the object/area and maintain perfect altitude start to finish. When I used TAP FLY, and tapped on a distant object , it looks as if TAP FLY descends directly to the object/point at the angle established from the drone to the point when "tapped." As my first TAP FLY flight progressed the ground got closer and closer and closer . . . until I intervened and hit stop. Question - would it have flown into the ground? Thank you for any answers, insights and advice. Ed San Antonio, TX

Very good footage and easy to understand, I was wondering once you tap fly to a certain height, the drone will move forward, what if you face the camera towards you, will it still continue to fly the forward direction. I m planning to try using it as a dronie or a pull back shot. Cheers from Brunei.

Great video. Do the sensors work without GPS signals? We tried flying it indoors and it keeps crashing while the outdoors flights are perfectly fine.

Interesting thing happened when you used the joysticks; the drone appeared to fly straight and level when you let the sticks go, and it ignored the previously set tap/go setting. Is this correct?

I like the tutorials. I haven't got the Mavic yet, but getting as much learning as possible. As far as the FAA, I'm going to register the Mavic, so how do I let the control tower of my flight plan? My house is with end the 5 mile radius, and I want to fly to catch sunsets from my back yard.

Are you using the new DJI Go app 4.0 I started using it and had one weird incident while flying on sight of the drone and that was lost of downlink video and hit return home and did not get a signal up till the drone was hovering on top of me and landing....

you can fly the Mavic without the controller - just the phone. Is it possible to fly the Mavic with just the controller? Say if your phone is dead, or you forgot it?

Nice job. Is it possible to change the yaw without changing the flight direction? So you can keep the camera pointed at something as you fly past?
