Nice in depth and tips using the tripod mode. Nowhere else can you find it other than this channel.

I use the lid of a tupperware tub for a launch / landing pad. For hiking I bought a rubber car floor mat at walmart for a couple bucks. It rolls up fairly compact and is light weight. I don't think using Tripod Mode for a beginners mode very long is a good idea. It would get you in the habit of "jamming" the sticks to their extremes as though they are on/off switches rather than learning fine stick control. You can adjust the flight characteristics to get smooth movement in the settings.

Love your videos and tutorials! As a side note, you can get better (more accurate) signal strength if you fold the remote antenna out at a 45 degree vs. straight up at 90 degrees.

If you turn off the bottom sensors before catching it, things will much easier. Nice video series.

Thanks Tim, appreciate your videos. Ordered my Mavic back in late Sept and got it Oct 21st -- so Ive been experimenting with it. A comment about grabbing the Mavic when landing (ref. to Hasani's comment, below); the drone fights you because you need to disable the downward-looking sensors. Go to SETTINGS and disable ENABLE VISION POSITIONING. (Get to settings either by sensor icon next to navsat icon, or use 3-dots). Then retrial will be easier by hand...

About catching the drone for landing: if you remove the 2 options (possibly only one, I'm not sure) about landing sensor (sensing bottom), you will be able to catch your drone a lot more easily and the drone will not fight against you to go up.

Thanks for your video! Subscribed! I had my first flight today in beginners mode and I was still scared and kinda tapping my joystick to travel around haha. I was looking for a way to slow the rotation. Thanks for the hint. As far as takeoff and landing I got one of those circular landing fabrics. With the great control the Mavic has it works perfectly. Much harder to land in a very small spot with my Phantom.

Great video, Timothy! Congrats on crushing your goal also :) Some feedback for you, as a YTer also, use VidIQ and boost your video to improve your SEO. This video for example, is missing tons of tags that would help it grow. Also try beefing up the descriptions with stuff from wikipedia or in this case maybe the DJI site. And lastly, a lav mic hooked up to a separate device would give you good audio when shooting in the field regardless of where the camera was pointed. Hope this helps and best of luck man!

One more thing Timothy. Please refine the process and provide your expert observations on the hand catch technique without revving the motors. I know it's possible but don't know the intricacies (down facing sensors off, what to do with the stick, smooth least stressful to the equipment, etc) easy hand catch (as a routine) setup. The Mavic is very low profile. I am getting ready to spend an extensive amount of time in rugged terrain in a third world country and I want to hand launch and catch as the routine. Also, what your thoughts are on the RTH feature with the drone without the benefit of a high (contrast y) visibility landing pad for the drone. Thx

Just a suggestion, if you disable the downward vision positioning sensor while hand catching it won't try and throttle up out of your hand... In case you didn't know already. Love my mavic, subscribed and thumbs up.

Nice job. How about a vid on using the Mavic as a hand held camera? Before the Karma tanked, a decision point between them was being able to put the Karma gimbal on the Karma Grip for hand-held. I'm curious how it would work if you just used the whole Mavic as your hand held. Obviously, it's not as nice as a stick but I'm interested in how well (or how badly) it works for that.

I'm currently waiting for a second battery to be delivered, hopefully by the weekend I'll get to fly my Mavic properly instead of a 10 minute flight. All you guys still waiting, you've got some awesome coming your way.

I flew my drone for the first time yesterday and out of habit I would just "smash" the forwards lever. LOl good to know about the tripod mode, I'll try it next time
