When I do a machine binding, I see the binding onto the front, then bring it around to the back. I use a glue stick and clips to hold it, placing the fabric just over the seam line from attaching the binding. Then I sew in the ditch on the front. You won’t have a random seam showing on the back.
@thevintagestitcher2022
@thevintagestitcher2022 Год назад
I have tried that and I am never happy with the results. I am going to try the glue technique

@@thevintagestitcher2022 I hope it works for you. It’s just my OCD. I hate seeing that exposed seam. Actually, I have CDO. It’s like OCD but the letters are in order like they’re supposed to be. 🥴

Just a thought, if you put a piece of thin rubber, plastic between the layers, could change on the backside, any leaks won’t stain the pieced top

Nice tutorial. To end up symmetrical on both sides, lay your first strip right on the center of the mate. Start sewing the strips from there, to the right and then to the left.

I have very recently saw a quilt that the woman made in 40 minutes! What she did was take a ton of scraps, stitched together on a bias (45⁰ angle) snipped the corner off, and after about 30 or 40 2 1/2 inch strips, she matched up the ends, sewed down the edge, cut it in half, and so on until her piece looked almost like a sheet for a twin bed. She didn't finish it off, but it seems you are much better than myself so perhaps you could give it a go. I lovec your video

Note to self: When Arttie says she has a detailed video on binding - watch it! 🤣 I made a mat using random scraps. I’m brand new to quilting. Never made a quilt, but have made some potholders and 1 quilt block wall hanging. I struggled with the binding, but learned some great lessons. I will probably use this one as a mat for my dogs dish. Really appreciate the video. 💐

Thank you for the tutorial. I was thinking of doing something similar with drying mats but not for their intended use. I need to tell you a story to explain. The first time I was invited to my son and brand new bride’s home for supper, she put a drying mat in the middle of the table. Odd but ok. Next she takes her stoneware pot out of the oven and places it on the mat. I’m silently having a complete fit because the table had belonged to great-grandma. I didn’t know what to say. She left the room for a minute and I was lifting up that pot the second her back was turned. Turned out, the mat completely protected the table. Phew!!! I’m thinking that my new daughter-in-law is one smart chick. I felt safe telling her how smart she was but then she gave me a confused look. Turns out, she didn’t know what the mat was for and thought it was a casserole hot mat. This gave me the idea of making quilted casserole hot mats. I thought the mat would be too thick to sew through accurately and had planned to make a removable cover. I like your idea better. P.S. My daughter-in-law really is a smart chick.
