Wonder if you could do it with a made to move arm? Pretty cool though. I like the articulation in the tail and having the arms be jointed as well makes it look a whole lot better. If Mattel had done it it would have cost a lot more.
Theoretically you could use a made to move arm but they are a bit more delicate and a lot more expensive and these I had on hand because I rebody onto made to move all the time
I like that you gave her articulated arms. I don't understand why Mattel still won't make ALL their dolls articulated? They are not doing these dolls right. I hate the dolls that have 1 straight arm and one bent arm, some outfits are very difficult to get on over the bent arm if there's no snaps or velcro. Get these dolls right Mattel this is 2023!
Way better, the hard part I think will be to find the matches for some of the other 6 mermaids 😢😅, I'll try it as soon as I get my mermaids thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for sharing your technique! I feel much more comfortable tackling a limb swapping project now. I use a lot of boiling/near boiling water for hair styling and other work involving softening doll plastic, and a couple of things that have proven helpful to me are 1. Silicone topped tongs to help avoid unwanted creases/indentations, and 2. Using a very thin washcloth or microfiber cloth so that I can handle the hot plastics more closely with my hands. This helps minimize breakage, indentations, etc. , allowing me to manipulate plastics with less force and more control.
I have a "Fantasy Mermaid" barbie doll. She has the stiff early 2000's arms. I would really love to give her posable arms... would this technique work on the snapping leg/ belly button 2000's barbie?
If you can see the joint inside the arm you should be good but if it has those arms that have the visible bar that crosses the arm probably avoid it. The earliest bodies I had working with were from 2013
Oh god if I know none of the bodies I keep have any of their accessories or heads anymore lol but if you’ve heard me complain about dolls not having a good match it was probably one of those lol
She’s more of a match to the Looks Karl petite doll than to the yellow made to move but check out my previous review of the Prince Eric and Ariel for on screen color comparisons
Theoretically yes, but I personally won’t be using made to move arms just because I don’t have extras that I am willing to use for a project like this, I will eventually rebody one of my Ariels onto the petite Karl looks doll but I don’t have so many that I can pull apart made to move dolls for projects
The bulk of them released in the US on April 24th as far as international releases I’m not sure. There are bound to be more released after the movie as well
I have not tried to body mod any of the RH dolls so I can not say one way or the other, I think you might be better off dipping the end of the arm with the broken peg stuck in it into a bit of boiling water and then attempting to remove the peg after things are looser
@disneydprince ok perfect, yeah i tried a made to move doll for one of the other sisters but the body had a different joint, so ill look into that made to move :)
Possibly, the arms look similar but I have not used this method to take off their arms. I cannot say if they are compatible or not, if you do it please let me know!
The PERFECT shade match is the new “Barbie Looks: One shoulder pink and blue dress” doll. But I’ve also seen people use the “Made to Move: Soccer Player ” doll in the red shirt
I have no idea these were from spare bodies that I had I just color matched them until I found one that fit. But she is a match to the new Petite Looks Karl Doll, and potentially the soccer made to move doll if that helps to narrow Dow the choices
Just pulled one from my box of bodies, couldn’t tell you which exact doll this came from but check out my review of her doll for color matches to current made to move bodies
