2002 gti had 1 extra screw to the right of the glove box. Need to remove the plastic cover to get to it.

The hidden screw does not need to be removed. That onyl secures the sliding door in console.

aero809 if you want to be sure never take chances juste remove the ground cable on the batterie, like that no chances taken

Shon9tilR you literally have to remove the whole glovebox. Have you seen the seams on the door? Or screws for that mattee? It's pressed plastic you have to buy a whole new glove box. Thanks Volkswagen.
