And you are right, the volume you can set at the end to make the final adjustments, but you can adjust your volume while singing too if you feel that your voice is distorting or peaking. One you set your volume inside the parameters you can sing with no further problems, but then in the end you can reveal if the configurations that you set during the song are the best ones. This is why I said that we have two kinds of volumes because when you adjust your volume before or during the song your controlling the volume that is entering the device. At the end you're can work with the final volume. Thanks once more brother! You rock. :)

Larry D Wilmore I’ve been using just about the same reverb and room size levels (Super Studio 25/50) but I find that I always have a hard time hearing myself and even the backing whenever I use my live mic (handheld) and my Yeti condenser mic. I can keep the audio effects just the same (that’s not what seems to be my problem) but not the volume...I need to increase the vocals and the volume in order to engage the mic and in turn, it engages the backing track (phantom) and my own voice.... I love Smule but I truly dislike that I sound awesome as I’m recording it and even after I review it...but once they post the video/audio clip, it’s like a “gamble” that can go both ways: either bad or good...and I don’t see why we should “walk on edge” just to sing karaoke. I sing live karaoke, which is a lot more difficult than using a singing app to sing and this isn’t to boast but since I get a lot of good feedback from live karaoke singing, and I mean, I’ve sung outdoors for an audience as large as 200 folks (if not more!) and I had not issues...even as nerve wracking as that is for an amateur singer such as myself...I’m not even an amateur...lol...but I do get very good feedback...so I figured things would be quite different when we sing “studio style”, especially by joining and paying an app that promises to make us sound good. As far as I’m concerned, Smule is a great thing but after a year or so as a Smule VIP member, I’ve been pretty disappointed in different ways. I trust you got your settings pretty well and figured out what your needs are there...so that’s awesome. Thanks for sharing! 😊🙏💫

The thing is, with smule you can't use a actual studio to make recordings because the app doesn't work on computers, but you can have a better sound quality making use of an interface. Answering your question the first thing I would suggest you is to leave those built in mic headphones aside and get regular headphones! Regardless of the device you have, the device mic is far much better than any existent built in mic. You can also use an interface which will allow you to use external mic, even condenser mics! If you have an iOS device you can get an iRig (I don't think is the best because Apple has a strange way of price their products, I think it's too expensive, other than that it's an excellent interface) or the Tascam iXZ (this model has excellent quality and you can find it for U$ 39,00 on eBay) If you need any further information you know where to find me man! I will try to make a tutorial on Android but its hard because these days we have more than 500 devices that run under Android and for each brand they make some things available and other things they don't. For example in some devices from LG, Samsung, Sony you can hear yourself singing (monitoring volume) in others you can't. It's just an example but I'll try to take the basics and go from there. :)

Hi there Hein. First of all thank you so much for watching the video and for commenting. It means a lot. Answering to your point, you're correct. The button during the recording is only for your monitoring. Back when I recorded the video I made a search on the website and I asked around and I got this "mistaken" information. You have a chance to control and play with your volume only in the editing screen. Don't trust the smule rendering, specially if you're thinking about opening a duet. You have that bar on the right side of your screen where you can adjust your volume in relation to the track. The secret here is to use your ears as there's nothing indicating the correct volume of your voice. But if you take a look more than 50% of the recordings on smule the voices are far lauder than the tracks. Finding the right balance between your voice and the music track will put you on a different and more Pro spot. Thanks for your comment and keep rocking bro! :)

Hi there Greg. First of all thanks for watching the video. This app is really great... I wish it was mine bro but its not the case LOL :D But I can help you with this question. Smule was made to be used with earphones, when you have them you can hear all the frequencies specially the mid tones and the low tones. Usually the mobiles speakers can't handle too well those frequencies and the song gets sort of lifeless. Those mid and low tones are responsible for the whole ambience of the song. It all comes down to how to mix properly the song. (Voice and Track balance) Wen you don't have the earphones a bad mix is more noticeable and usually it's why it doesn't sound good. If you need something else I'll be here bro. Thanks :)

Varun Official i think my problem is same like yours...i am a Vip user of smule, using smule on Android...when i try make a collab ( where 1st singer already sung their part with sound effect) and choose super studio sound effect after finishing my recording, it changes/add effect on whole track instead of my vocals only. Hey there friend. Can you be more specific about which model of phone you're using? I've heard that depending on the headphone you're using this can happen. Actually I've heard a lot about this issue. So, lets try to be accurate here so you don't need to expand any unnecessary money. :)

Hi there Brother. Unfortunately you can't use your DAW to sing on the APP. It only works on your phone or tablet. There are people who download on Android emulator for windows and they manage to sing from the computer but the Android app is experiencing some problems so the result isn't great. What I do is to use an Interface which I connect directly on the headphone jack on my phone and with this interface I can connect any king of Mic. About the headphones I just have one suggestion while you dont decide what to do with the interface, don't use those with built in Mic. They are awful and uncomfortable, regular headphones are the best choice even because the device mic is far much better than any kind of built in mic. Thanks for watching the video man. Thank you, So we can use audio interface through 3.5 mm jack on smart phone and it will work. I was thinking that only small condenser mic will work (as it is there on regular headsets).

There is one powered by Tascam (Tascam iXZ) its very good man. You can connect any mic (cardioid, condenser, tube mic) and if you wanna record yourself play in another layer you can connect instruments. :)

No, on Smule it's not possible for you to do that unless you're the one who upload the song to smule catalog and then you record a video only lip sinking. The thing that people sometimes fail to acknowledge is that the voice is actually more important than the effect that we're using. Depending on the type of song you'll sing the indie is a great effect, but if you are a VIP user try to go for those effects in which you can tweak with the settings so that you can ease the effect and set it up in a way that your voice shows up more than anything else. shuja khan Hey bro! I’m sorry for taking this long to reply. I missed a lot of comments. RU-vid didn’t send me the emails. Unfortunately for Android users sync will always be a problem. There are more than 600 devices running android these days but each one has its working properties. So they didn’t figure out yet what to do regarding this matter. You need to sync it manually in the review screen by dragging your voice towards left or right until it’s synced with the backing track.

I have one interface and its pretty easy to use man! I am thinking about doing a video teaching how to use it too. The interface that I got was the Tascam iXZ you can easily find it on ebay for U$ 39,00 its a great thing to do. I record with condensers mic and its been an awesome experience so far. I've heard about iRig but I think it's (like everything that comes from Apple) abusively expensive.Tell me something, which iPhone are you using? Maybe you can boost a little bit your input volume, maybe it's that what is causing that quiet of muffled sensation.if you have a p2 extensor cable you can use it because the extensor cancels the mic from your earphones and and makes the iPhone's bottom mic active. Hi there my friend. I'm sorry for delaying this answer but I had some crazy days. Well, unfortunately there's no way to overcome it. The thing is that when you sing a song uploaded by the smule team sometimes you can used it because they have the copyrights issues figured out, but when you sing a song that was uploaded by a regular member it happens, because those users usually get the tracks on youtube and they don't have the rights of the song. I'm sorry to say that but the only way out is upload your video without any monetizing attempt.

Hi there Amay :) How are you? Well. It can be for different reasons. I'll try to help you: ► 1- Maybe you're having problems with your Internet connection. Sometimes when our upload rate isn't very good we can experience this lag problems. ► 2 - From time to time is necessary to clear the cache of the app, if it starts to take a huge space of your phone or tablet memory those things starts to happen. If you're using the iOS app you have to go to your profile, click on settings (the button located on the left side of your name), then under support you're gonna find Clear Cache. ► 3 - Maybe Smule servers are overloaded and when it happens these problems are pretty common too. For you to solve it try to clean the cache first, than if you're using the iPhone click twice on the home button and close the application, then start it again and try to sing. If it doesn't work get back at me and we're try to come up with something else. It's very important to my channel. :) There are several ways that you can "appear" on the app. Killer Karaoke, Rising Stars, Undiscovered Talent. The thing is there are combinations of things that you can do in order to be added to the main page. You can use hashtags like #killerkaraoke #kk #risingstars but there's no guarantee that you will be added just by doing that. You can upload a different thumbnail to your song. It's all about the loves man. Depending on how many loved do you get, if you use the hashtags and if you change your thumbnails it's more likely that you appear there. They have like a scoring system for each thing you do right. I hope I could help you. Reach out to me in case you need further assistance with this. Thanks bro :)

Richard Palmisano It's not like those karaoke machines where the score is all over the place. What I'm saying is that they have some sort of score that everything that you do count points. (Hashtags, personalized thumbnails, singing on pitch)

I tried to find the video that you mentioned but couldn't find it. Can you share a link to that video with me? Another thing, I disagree with your statement that 'Its not possible for us to connect mixers to the phone.' I myself am a hobby singer (amateur singer). I have successfully used the combination of my audio mixer and my smartphone to record songs on smule. It gives the benefit of being able to (1) Use better, professional external mics (2) Monitor your own voice in headphones while you sing (3) Apply effects and equalizers to your vocals from the mixer. Apart from using the 'mixer + smartphone' combo, I have also successfully used the combo of 'mixer + PC' to record songs on smule. In that case, I use the android emulator called bluestacks to run the smule app on my PC (instead of smartphone).

Niiiice. Well, maybe it's an Android thing because when comes to Apple you can't do that man. But I'm glad you could do this type of connection. I've heard about this Bluestacks emulator. I've tried that on the beginning but I didn't like that very much (my experience). Besides the iOS app allows you to monitor your voice and with the interface that I mention on the other video you can use any kind of microphone. When I made the video it was intended for the people that don't have any specific knowledge, actually I can agree with you on your Super Studio Specs. The thing is that Room Size is tricky thing to play with when you don't have experience because the room you're recording from can make a huge impact, so I guess I was trying to play on the safe side with the specs I gave. Taking about equipment I didn't buy them to sing on smule. As a music producer and singer I already had them but I agree that sometimes people don't wanna join you when you sound GOOD. Fairuz Safra Hi there friend. 😃 So, you're saying that when you're recording the voice of the other person is recording again along with yours? If that's the case try 2 things: 1- Always use headphones on Smule 2- If you're using one of those headphones that has a built in mic try to change it. Use regular headphones without the microphone. I guess it will solve your problems. First of all your device mic is far much better than any built in mic and second it usually kills the double voice thing. If you're still having problems after doing that tell me and we will try other things. 😃👍🏻

Android users are not that happy with the app. But it's quite difficult for Smule people to make video works on all devices, specially when it comes to Android users because there are more than 600 devices that uses Android these days. Each device has it own line of codes and configurations. Unfortunately you'll have to wait. They're trying to figure it out.

I have some models here and I can tell you two models that are very good and with a reasonable price: Sennheiser HD437 and AKG K121 Studio, both are very good headphones.

If you’re talking about the echo that sometimes appears (more in Android devices) it has to do with the headphones you’re using. Usually voice problems on the app are related to headphones. Try to change them and you’ll probably won’t have this issue anymore. Try to buy a headphone without a built in microphone. Usually the microphone of your own device (telephone) is far much better than any built in microphone. Reach me if you need any further information.

Sugeesh S Hey bro! Well, I’ve been using Smule for 3 years now. This whole time I’ve been using it on iPhone and I gotta say it’s fantastic. Of course sometimes Smule programmers messes with some things but overall it’s awesome. You won’t have sync problems, you can hear yourself while singing, using the iPhone EarPods will give you a great sound already. @@PhilippFondacaro Hi Bro, I switched to iPhone (6s) to sing in Smule, trust me voice issues solved to a great extend. Voice quality is Superb with iPhone and it's earpode. You asked some awesome questions here. Lets breaking it down. ► 1 - To score high on a song: Well, the guy didn't give you the right information. Its not about volume as this video stated :) You probably saw that bars that keep track of our notes (or more like the note guides) as you keep singing theres a pointer that shows if you hit the note, if you were Flat or Sharp. The secret is make the pointer stays continuously inside those bars. If you're a good singer this shouldn't be a problem at all. But singing loud or low doesn't make a difference for this purpose. ► 2 - None effects are generally requested on group songs or on auditions. And there's a reason for that. ► Group Songs: As you are singing with other people every time that someone uses one effect it will be summed up with the effect that another person chose. The app works by summing the effects and not by blending them together. So normally the first singer will have his voice completely covered by others voice and effects. So, by asking you to sing without effects they are trying to keep the record clean and clear. ► Auditions: They ask you to sing without effects because the effect can mask a lot of little imperfections that our voice has, sometimes the errors aren't that big and when it happens the effects can minimize them. When we sing without effects we have the responsibility of sounding good. Actually its a great exercise (to train your songs without any effect) because once you sound great without anything to polish it when you add an effect it will be only the Cherry of the Cake. Philipp Fondacaro I know nothing about music and notes. hahaha. so, I got caught red-handed I guess? Im using android though. But you know, I think it is not really about the notes since the pointer actually just doesnt move most of time. Im not a singer to hit right notes. But that pointer just stay at the middle of bar most of time,not moving at all. Maybe android problem. Im not sure. As for None fx, I would like to be able to sing like that too but it doesnt pick up my voice. Same goes for group singing actually. I cant detect where is my voice gone after the song published. Theres another fact. Its not every song that has the pointer moving correctly. But if you sing the song which has it you should be able to see the pointer going for the blue bars. I am pretty sure that it has to do with the notes. I scores close to 35000 on some songs and i wasn't singing near the mic nor anything like it. The thing is that you have to make sure that your voice is clear so the app can do its work which is identify you're notes and relate to its notes. Hi there Debanjan :-) Thanks for watching the video and for leaving your comment. It does when you use the Super Pop Effect and by moving with pitch correction button. But it isn't like autotune. With autotune you have the opportunity to smooth the transitions between the notes in order to hide the fact that your using the effect, but on the app its quite evident that you are using it because the "pitch correction" is not a smart effect and depending on what you do with your voice the effect is all over the place. But if you want to give a kind of cool robotic voice to the song maybe its a good effect. :) Feel free to reach out to me in case you have any other doubt. Philipp Fondacaro so what studio effect does to the singing and the recording?

The Studio Effect Applies Reverb and a little bit of compression to your voice, the Pop Star would be the other effect that applies the pitch correction. The Studio Effect its meant to give a nice ambiance to your voice only. The compression is to smooth the difference between your low and high notes, because for the high notes people use to push harder and the volume gets louder so the compression sets a limit both on the lower and the higher volumes, if it's to low the effect will turn it up a little bit and if it's ti loud the effect will turn it down. :)

Hi there Greg. Fist of all thank you for watching the video and also for commenting. Answering your question until now theres no Desktop App for Smule. People use to emulate Android on windows using some programs such as, Nox or Blue Stacks. I've tried blue stacks and I didn't like it bro, but maybe you think differently. For Mac I don't know any ways of doing it. Thanks once more :)

First of all thank you for watching the video and for your comment. I'm not completely sure if I understood your comment correctly but I'm assuming you're talking about how to match your voice to the volume of the backing track. Well if that's the case there's a way you can do it. First, mix the song with your headphones on. when you finish singing there's that screen where you can adjust the volume and the effect you're using). After, listen to the song again without the headphones. (Make the sound come off through the mobile speakers). Usually when we mix the song only through the headphones, chances are that when people listen to our songs without it our voices will be louder than the backing track. And my last tip to you is using the original song as a reference. Try to match your volume to the volume of the singer in the original song. I hope these tips will help you. I am asking about the smule app vocal match and voice feedback option to be set. 1) Voice feedback is the option on the right side while preparing the studio .More clearly I will tell u is that 🔊is the icon and it asks to set voice feedback in % ,What % should I select for the song???? 2) Also after the song gets recorded the icon 🔊 asks for 'vocals '.What vocals should be set .I usually set 2.0 is it ok or I should try for something different? 3)Also while singing humming sound of 'ssssssss' is observed when the sound of ssss is more.how can I try to avoid that sound in my recording?I mean is there any setting I need to do on smule? @@anujavaidya10 Hey my brother. Now I got you. So, I will answer you in topics too. I guess it will be better. 1) There's no correct values for voice feedback. It should be set up to levels you're comfortable with. Mine is set up in 80% just as a indication or a reference. 2) This answer is the one I gave you in my comment above. It's difficult to say go with +3.0 or -2.0 because it depends on your dynamics, on the type of mic you're recording and a bunch of other things, that's why I told you to mix it with the headphones and then listen to it without it... The correct way to go about it is to hear a perfect mix between the backing track and your voice. The people should be able to listen to the backing track too and not your voice only as the main thing. Me for example, I'm used to mix it with my voice around -5.5 3) This s sound happens because usually the volume of your mic is too loud.. Try to turn your volume down a touch and see if it gets better. And turn up your return volume so that you can still hear what is going on. :)
