Exactly that! The ratio of the cropping would be the whole segment! However if it’s already at the right ratio you could edit the whole lot in whichever app it’s made for like instagram or TikTok without the need for editing through iMovie!

No problem at all! Adding text onto shorts is best done after in the app you are using! So after you’ve finished create the short with RU-vid and add the text on the app!

@TheKrazyKoala yeah! That’s the easiest way to have the best control over text! You can do it through iMovie but it’s a bit more fiddly…. There is a way to rotate the text box as well after you’ve rotated your video… another way is to export your video without text and then set up a new iMovie project… import your new vertical video and add the text there… the easiest way is definitely to export your vertical video without text and add it directly through RU-vid or Insta!

@@JoeAndFreyaTravels Hi Joe, if my videos are already film vertically, do i need to rotate it to horizontal before i edit and then rotate it back?

It sounds as though you may have missed the last step to rotate the video and save it so it fills the screen, hope that solves your problem!

If you need to use titles then you can,… but you must make them small enough in the correct area for when you crop the content…. It’s much easier to use the titles in instagram or RU-vid shorts applications

If you have multiple clips it can be time consuming for sure! But I would rotate them all individually (the ones you need rotated) and export them individually… and then piece them altogether again into one new timeline… to get horizontal footage showing the whole thing but rotated its best to use QuickTime to simple rotate the clip and export it as a new video! Hope I’ve managed to read what you're after correctly!

Great question! I tend to export to 4k as it’s the best quality it can be and instagram and RU-vid can render it down if needs be but either way it doesn’t make a huge amount of difference 😃

Unfortunately for this method it’s not possible… I would try to get the original footage and then when the method has been completed add text using the application your posting to like insta reels or RU-vid shorts :)

If you add text you can rotate it when the text box has been selected in the same way as the videos :)

Unfortunately that can't be done... I would recommend adding the titles after directly through the app you are publishing too :)

Why wouldn’t it be a solution? It will work in all scenarios where you have horizontal footage and want to create vertical videos from it? :)

No it doesn’t, it really depends on the original quality and the export method you choose, if it’s a 4k video and you export to 4k when your finished then it’s perfect!

So yeah. I found out what you need instead of using this weird workaround that our Joe explains. Click the *Video that you wanna crop* in "My Media". The editiing options now include CROPPING. So crop your video to the size you want. Drag from My Media into the arrangement. Or replace the old one which haad the wrong aspect ratio.
