I tried this with White Album 2, but after the icon is added to Lutris and I click Play, simply nothing happens. It does work for other VN's. Any clue what I can try to make WA2 working?
Could you please clarify something: Are you downloading the game files & installing the games directly onto a usb? Or are you just storing the games files prior on it prior to the actual instal? Also - are you dragging and dropping the files onto the Steam Deck? Or keeping the USB/converter plugged in?
My exact method -Downloading Game -Fully unzipping it to just run exe -Put unzipped installed game on external heard drive -Connect hard drive to Steam Deck and Copy over
@@AngeVNsSorry for the continued annoyance. I followed the steps you did for a JAST game titled “Study Steady”. Got the game folder with all files including the exe pasted into its own folder on my Deck and added it to Lutris. When I click play, nothing happens. No pop ups, errors or anything.
@@AngeVNs I did. Wiped my first attempt and started again and it worked 100%. Not sure what the original issue was but it’s all good now. Thanks for the great guide
Installed Wonderful Everyday on my windows pc, copied it to the steam deck and followed every step exactly as the video explains. But if I hit play nothing happens.
@@AngeVNs Fixed it. I just added the BGI.exe as a non steam game to steam and then I forced the compatibility to proton ge. Don't even have to use anything like lutris or wine
I followed this and Whenever I launch a title it says there is a download. If I do that the game starts up and works but after I close it and reopen it has the same download process? Any idea
thank you for this great video! unfortunately, i’m still unable to play my visual novel :( would you be so kind and maybe help me out? i just bought euphoria, my first manga gamer game, but it wont launch it. i did everything as in your video, but lutris wont open it. only thing that came into my mind, is that euphoria came in as two files. when i downloaded them, the website said ”download both files, extract to the same folder, and combine them by running the part 1 file.” i added the file 1 to the lutris - should i have somehow combined the two files before that? is that the reason the game is not working? how do i combine them? because if i try to open the file 1, it just opens it in Ark and nothing happens. From what I remember from MangaGamer store you'll have to do something like this Use lutris Run that executable but do not expect it to run the game right away Instead, wait for the executable to finish running and it should make a new executable and files which should be the actual game Once that's done, just change the executable on lutris
Can someone please help me with summer pockets reflection blue? I’ve tried three different ways to play on steam deck but it just gives me errors with blocks instead of Japanese characters so I can’t understand the error and it just frustrates me
Man I hate linux. I have a lot of steam VNs and a lot fantranslations on my backlog and it looks like a pain to set some of them up. I think I'll just probably install windows 10 or 11 on SD card and have dual boot, without having to reinstall my deck or anything.
i want to say that Linux is a great OS, but not for VNs. I understand why you hate it especially if you are a VN player but you shouldn't hate it unconditionally.
I use Linux and what i have to say is that the only annoying part is just video codecs. Everything else isn't all that hard, just follow the guides and it should be set up correctly. Worst case,just install Gnome Boxes and run Windows 10 there. I haven't needed to do that in a long while though. Even with game patches, I've found the reliable way to apply them, so really, it's just figuring out video codecs that's hard because fuck codecs licensing.
Linux is fantastic, I use it on my daily basis, but yeah, Linux is a headache for VN. I have read some VN on linux like Subahibi "witouth many problems", but in the end I end making a dual boot on my laptop with windows just for play and read VN. I recommend that, if you use linux make dualboot with windows only to play. I hope in the future read VN on linux becomes more easy, SteamOS is a perfect distro for gaming.
Thanks for the helpful guide. It's a lot more easier to understand than reading guides from discord/wiki. Just one question, have you tried installing Windows on an SD card and playing all VNs on this OS as opposed to SteamOS? I'm not sure if this method is easier than using Lutris/Wine via SteamOS.
Really appreciate you making these guides. Im just starting to attempt to move to using my steam deck for visual novels. In your opinion, is is there a difference in effort involved for fan patching or directly installing from a publisher such JAST on steam deck? I'm trying to play uncensored versions but im also looking for mininal tinkering / setup time. I bought Fate Remastered to replay it but refunded because it really bothers me so many steam visual novels appear to sanitize the ero scenes when they directly sell H games...

Thanks for the tutorial. I tested Narcissu and it works but I can't seem to get to a save menu. Is there any shortcuts for the esc button etc? Just curious still very helpful.
If you set a desktop mode visual novel, and add a shortcut to steam. If you go back to Steam Deck mode you can edit the settings of particular games controls. There you should be able to map escape and such

were you able to revoke one of the johren activations after activating it twice on the steam deck? i want to set up a vn i got from johren, but i'm afraid i won't get the chance to revoke it if i accidentally screw it up.
@@AngeVNs okay so i decided to just see what happens and added the game to lutris, but i made a specific wine prefix for johren games and the game seems to work in both game and desktop mode with the same activation, whether i launch it through steam or lutris. i can revoke the activation by writing "/revoke" in the arguments line in the "game options" tab on lutris and then starting the game, but i have no idea how you would do it through steam to revoke it in game mode. i'm assuming if you don't identify the wine prefix, steam makes another one when you add it to steam through lutris. i think you could tell lutris to run it in that prefix instead to remove it, but i honestly have no idea. regardless, i think making a prefix for johren games, or any other site that uses drm is probably the safest option.
@@AngeVNs also, in desktop mode it loads upside down and cuts part of the screen, in steam mode it loads the right way up but still cuts lots of the screen off
@@ZerosRogers in desktop mode, try opening lutris and going to your games library. right-click on grisaia --> configure --> runner options --> wine version --> proton 7.0 (in the drop down menu). the max resolution should be 1280x720; otherwise the game window won't fit. i think that should fix it being upside down in desktop mode
Another solution, especially if you just got the deck, is to create a dual boot windows, it's pretty easy. Plus you can also use it for games with strong DRM, Genshin or LoL for example.
