Wow, the playing of Adrian's solo over a Blues jam is probably THE GREATEST expose of why his riffs, soloing and songs are so lauded amongst guitarists. Phenomenal work in your analysis!

Wow! The way you put that solo over the blues was genius! We all know how his melodic playing is firmly rooted in the blues, but, I've never seen anyone else highlight it so obviously. The research you've done to present his technique and playing the way you have is very commendable. Also have to mention how when I first heard The Prisoner I was convinced Adrian was tapping for that solo introduction. My mind was blown when I finally realized he actually wasn't tapping. I had the same feeling I when found out he wasn't tapping for the beginning of The Road To Hell solo. I think that technique in particular of his is something that's very unique to his style of playing. Awesome video as always man! 👍Cheers!

@@LicksOfTheBeast have you ever heard the track The Calling by Michael Kiske from Helloween? Adrian plays on it along with Kai Hansen. Great track I highly recommend if you've not heard it yet! He does that same Road To Hell style lick but in a lower register on the lower strings instead. I believe it was before he played with Bruce on his solo stuff and it's a great precursor to the development of his style from Maiden to the way he was playing when he joined Bruce.

In a previous video you remarked on Adrian being your favourite guitarist in your favourite band…. So it doesn’t come as a complete surprise that you’re playing the Prisoner solo on a red Destroyer. Thanks! It’s such a treat… I think this is one of Adrian’s finest solos.

The interlude to the solo was also something i had down very close but never perfect, now thanks to you, IT NOW IS!!. Licks of The Beast, Nicko, (like Nicko McBrain?), I hope I’m spelling it correctly, you really stand out as wanting to teach, most others want to display their talent more than teaching - and for a very valuable solo as Adrian’s in The Prisoner, that’s to the waste of time & demise of guitar lovers and learners, on the other hand watching you is really learning from you and as such, is a valuable USE of time. I just had to say it! Though it might appear obvious to some. Thx once again.

I saw them play The Prisoner in both 1988 and 2012. I don’t have any specific memories except that the entire set in 1988 was played very fast and Bruce really had the challenge of keeping up. It was interesting to hear years later that they all felt the songs were played too fast on that tour, especially Adrian. Sadly, 2012 was the last time I saw Maiden live. 😔
@LicksOfTheBeast
@LicksOfTheBeast 3 года назад
I was just listening to Adrian talk about that on the interview he did with Chris Jericho the other day! That us a problem a lot of bands had at the time for some reason (well...in some cases I'm sure the copious amounts of cocaine being consumed had something to do with it 😄). I'm really glad Adrian insisted on fixing those tempos because the band grooves so much more nowadays! No Maiden since 2012 is sad indeed...But then again you have seen them more than most people ever will so that's already huge! I really hope you can make up for that on the upcoming tour!!!
@SomewhereInTheMaidenverse

@@LicksOfTheBeast I’m laughing at the cocaine reference. 😂 I’ve seen Maiden several times, but the SSoaSS and BNW shows really stick with me: SS will always be extra special to me because it was my first Maiden show and I was down in front by Davey (I just remember being freaked out when Steve would aim his axe at us with that look on his face - I didn’t know that was his thing). 😂 BNW was an incredible experience because I had amazing lower level seats close to the stage; it was the first album tour with the current lineup (how I wish I saw the Ed Hunter tour); it was the first show of the North American leg of the tour at MSG (there is some great fan footage from that show on here), and the crowd was just incredible - many kind, beautiful souls in my section. Nicko; I have seen Iron Maiden for the first time at Hammersmith Odeon in London, UK on December 06, 1988. Whether they played The Prisoner on that day, I can't remember but what I could remember very clearly is that Bruce Dickinson carried Dave Murray on his shoulders, maybe on Number of the Beast song. And the crowd just roared! I went to the concert with a Californian guy by name of Dean Clements who loved Maiden too. I saw them again in 2011 tour with my son in Toronto, and twice after that at the Budweiser stage in Toronto. You're right, it's rare for them to play The Prisoner, it's an Adrian specialty of course, I think he has to be the one to play it best. They're coming to Toronto October 11 this year, I just saw it thanks to you're posing the question. I want to see if I can purchase a ticket, will you be there?

Oh absolutely! I will be at the Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa shows. 😃 And my tribute band, Maiden Canada is going to be playing an after party right after Maiden's set both in Toronto at the Antler Room, and in Hamilton at Stonewalls.

@@LicksOfTheBeast cool I love to see that too! I am not familiar with the Antler Room, what's the address, admission fee? Or is it limited admission?

I DID see them play it on the original 7th Son tour in 88! I was mainly a Live After Death and Somewhere in Time type Maiden fan at that point so I didn’t even know about The Prisoner! The crowd went nuts and sang every word, so I felt kind of lost. Course I went home and dug out The Prisoner on NOTB and it’s always been one of my favs since.

I did too! Or, I should say I still have mine with a Kahler on it. It's an '82 that I bought in '83. Still love it!

I've been always intrigued by drums underneath the solo, as it seems to be hittings toms instead of the snare.

Your playing is incredible. I just find these lessons are not very friendly to the watcher. I love your content though and wish I could play like you
