You used a AF120 which is not optimized to pull air through that heat sink use a SP120
@Ruthless9o7
@Ruthless9o7 5 лет назад
You can use machine screws and washers to attach the 4 holes on the bottom of the fan through to the heat sink. Small machine screws will fit in the gaps between the heat sink fins. Secure with a small nut and bam ur done, glue free. Otherwise awesome video. Would like to see how the hot glue has held up! Lets get a follow up video and see what it looks like now!

Better idea! DO NOT USE HOT GLUE on your heatsink 🤦🏻‍♂️! The vanes of the heatsink can accept a screw between them easily. It doesn't damage the heatsink. The vanes are pliable enough yet strong enough to securely hold the fan as well. This video was with that one exception. Do NOT use hot glue near hot or warm very warm objects.

whybdid you.choose a 120 when you could have used a 140 and adjusted the fan shroud? more air and less fan speed...
@lpmorgan90
@lpmorgan90 7 лет назад
ok, realised why... that steel.mesh in the fan shroud would actually hinder cooling and cause resistance, I'd cut all that metal mesh out, use some filter material (don't see why as it's an exhaust port) and you'd increase airflow by atleast 50%

Is the fan speed the same as the speed with the stock one (does the speed changes the same as with the stock one. Example: when playing a demanding game the fan spins faster). Looks sick, I'm planning on doing this
@SlowPythonV1
@SlowPythonV1 8 лет назад
+Francisco Rodríguez no this setup will not run the fan at full rpm, the consoles cpu is made to send a constant 6v or so to the fan while in idle mode, or while on the xbox home screen. doing this wire setup will disable the pulse width modulation, which is what the cpu uses to change fan speeds, and what the othe two wires he did not attach are for. you simply need to wire the fans power and ground wires to a 12v power supply, like the one on the bottom of the motherboard, or one you plug into a wall outlet. if you have them hooked up like this your console will not be sufficently cooled during gameplay, and will reach temps of 130°F or higher, which will most likely cause long term damage if left alone. but as long as the fan is for sure at 12v you will be fine

I know this is late but Im just wondering, when you did this and plugged in the xbox did the fan run and the xbox not turn on ? If I plug out the fan after the fan shuts off and plug it back in the whole xbox works but if I unplug the xbox and plug it back in it does the same thing. Any idea why ? Btw, Im using the same model fan but mine is static pressure but I dont think there is much difference.
@SlowPythonV1
@SlowPythonV1 8 лет назад
+iextacyz please please check this comment your fan is not making more air because its only running at half power. when you attach the fan in this wasy (just the positive and negative wires) it disables the PWM (pulse width modulation) setting and the xbox will constantly run it as if you are on the home screen, at 700rpm. usually it increases when you start a game but it cant anymore, you need to wire the fan to a solid 12v line like the leds he installed, or an external 12v supply. my xbox was setup just like this and i have a thermometer it read 130°F while gaming a new xbox reads 115 max. i have correctly applied new arctic silver 5 paste to my cpu and i put the fan to a 12v line, now it reads 108°F maximum during games, if all of you keep running your consoles this way THEY WILL FRY TO DEATH

@SlowPythonV1
@SlowPythonV1 8 лет назад
theres just the one under the power plug in, same spot dopesoner wired his leds to. you could run both the leds and fan from it no problem, just keep in mind youll have full rpm all the time, or you could buy a 4 pin pwm fan that would work the same as the stock fan without modification
@iextacyz
@iextacyz 8 лет назад
I actually have the PWM adapter so I can just use that so I dont have to solder anything. You think I can just buy a PWM fan and mount it on there ?
@SlowPythonV1

Instead of grinding those upper tabs on each corner, just simply do not put the metal cover back onto the xbox one cage, only install 2 t8 self tapping screws on each opposing corner right into the heat sink cooling fins, being careful NOT not hit the heat sink pipes, or you can use 4 t8 up to you, 2 will be more the sufficient to hold the fan onto heat sink, then simply just install the speaker and wifi card to the side of the metal case onto each surrated surfaces on the side of the bottom metal case assy. being sure to drive the screw... ( one for the speaker, one for the WiFi card ) with the shank side going into the inside off the xbox one component area, One ea. will be sufficient to hold those items onto the side of the metal bottom case, so that they're not rattling around inside the case. Then take all the screws from the top metal case and simply reinstall them to there respective locations so that they will secure the other components to the lower outter black plastic case, Then simply reattach the xbox one black plastic outer case Cover back on, and now that you didn't install the upper metal case, now you can clearly see your l.e.d lights shinning through the intake air fins of the outer black case cover and the new fan will be able to pull allot more cool air into the xbox one, thus cooling it allot more efficiently.
@CORALnFISH
@CORALnFISH 7 лет назад
does the opposite pal removing the metal creates a bigger area thus less concentrated therefor slower air intake and messy for instance air will be flapping everywhere rather than where it needs to do some research
@joejones6968
@joejones6968 7 лет назад
No. Fan will o nly pull as much air as it is designed too, not more, not less, Obviously if you cover the fan well, then yes, it will not be as sufficient....As far as research is concerned, not sure what you are trying to convey, Unless you're trying to insult me, which I could careless...Anyway, good luck, with your customized Xbox One, have fun.
@elijahbeale7848

The first point they are talking about is called Volumetric Flow Rate. You can check out the wiki article on it, but it's got some calculus in it. However, you can think of it like covering half of a vacuum tube to get greater suction. The opposite would be covering half the tube of a leaf blower. You are effectively increasing the CFM at the barrier point in both those cases. The second point they are talking about is that with greater concentration, you have smaller eddies off the current. You can think about it like eddies in water, except gas eddies are more disruptive of directional air flow at slower speeds (hence their argument above). Just trying to clarify and give you some key words. I'm not siding with Rossco-j.

RGB is too flashy, distracting for those of us who came in the dark

You know the fan modulates instead of running full bore you will end up frying something on the board guarantee I would not recommend this lmfao

Use a Volt meter. Don’t use a power supply.

if there’s no power to the fan your method is useless, you could check the resistance between the fan live and plug to see which has resistance
@Sixintan6
@Sixintan6 3 года назад
@@ethanbaylis5204 It’s not useless at all. You said it yourself, it checks for resistance. A magnetized fan has a resistance you dope.

DO NOT HOOK YOUR FAN UP LIKE THIS YOUR CONSOLE WONT BE ABLE TO INCREASE THE RPM WHEN YOU START A GAME IT WILL RUN HALF SPEED CONSTANTLY AND REACH TEMPS OF +130°F Now that i have your attention (sorry for the caps its just this it clearly important and no one is hearing me yet) i did this exact plug setup with the same fan and i have a thermometer installed in my window and yes it read upwards of 130°F which is 15°F more than a new console. with the fan powered by a solid 12v line you get 108°F max. i have Arctic silver 5 paste which i suggest you all invest in and apply, heres how- some people think you cover the entire cpu chip in a thin layer of paste but this is highly incorrect, you simply put a rice shaped dab in the center (after cleaning the old paste from both the heatsink and cpu obviuosly) just enough so that when you tighten the sink back on it spreads evenly across the chip, with no air bubbles or imperfections, which will decrease the heat transfer if they occur. this is not some random trying to trick people or something, i am a legitimetly concerned human being who it trying to save some consoles.

and th corsair AF120 is acually a case cooling fan, not a cpu colling fan although it will work for that at full rpm, there are much better fans which you should get.

+ThisGuyTechnofy it is relatively simple, but yes I would say if you are not a "handy" person and have not done similar cosmetic mods on past consoles that of course you are at risk of damaging something
