A little bit of clarification here, because a lot of people are getting confused by it: Cards like Banishing Light and Banisher Priest use the "exile target [permanent/permanent type] until [this card] leaves the battlefield" text. This is a single ability whose effect is ongoing until the card leaves the field. Because of this text, when used on commanders, these cards can bring them back to the battlefield even if the owner chose to return them to the command zone. Cards like Oblivion Ring and Fiend Hunter, on the other hand, have two separate triggered abilities: they exile something when they enter, and return whatever they exiled when they leave. The second ability requires that the object is exiled by the first ability AND remains exiled this way, otherwise it can't return anything. Because of this, if a commander is exiled by these cards and their owner chooses to return them to the command zone instead, the cards can't bring them back, not even if said commander ends up exiled later on by other effects. So no, Dean destroying his own O-Ring can't bring Marrow-Gnawer back, unless Dom chooses to let him stay in exile, in which case Dean would never blow up the O-Ring (Aura Shards's trigger is optional).

It's pretty interesting how a linear aggro deck really changes the flow of the game. One wrath probably would have ended it for him, but when you're the opponent and aren't drawing those wraths it definitely puts you in panic mode. xD

I love Mirri (the character and the card). I think part of the problem with MIrri is that people tend to want to make her a cat tribal commander or, at least, they don't know what to do with her. I admit that I don't know what a "good" Mirri deck should look like but Dean's list is sweet.
@mistermastermind528
@mistermastermind528 Год назад
It's the tap component that I find interesting and that should be the basis of a more tactical combat deck. While not necessarily tribal, there are cat cards that bring out tokens when attacking which may allow some strategy. Nacatl War Pride or Odric, Master Tactician are the best cards to pair with Mirri though as they give you the control of how your opponents block you. Tokens should probably still be part of the strategy, a sub theme.
@phyrexian_dude4645

9:11 I'm not sure if Dean forgot that he could just simply tap the Evangel to put a saproling and destroy the Clutches when it entered or preferred to keep blockers just in case the rats managed to kill that Mirri.
@DarkEinherjar
@DarkEinherjar 5 лет назад
It doesn't work that way. Once In Bolas's Clutches resolves, the Aura Shards is no longer under Dean's control, so he can't do that. And until it resolves, it's not on the battlefield to be targeted by Aura Shards. Dean could still make a token and blow up the Aura Shards itself in response, though...

Tron is one way to go with Tuvasa as she can one shot someone at a certain point. But you can do plenty of control type stuff with her support from her draw ability. Kestia cares more about the tron style I think when it comes to Bant enchantress. I built Tuvasa as more of a combination of tron and pillowfort, with a dash of combo and it's pretty fun. You could always go Kynaios and Tiro if you wanted to do both green and red. Or a partner build of sorts.

WhitePhosAllOneWord what type of combos do you use in your Tuvasa deck? I went for a voltron\pillow fort style deck too and it has been working wonders for me too.
@nolanbreen7631
@nolanbreen7631 5 лет назад
WhitePhosAllOneWord I run a Tuvasa Voltron build with a few cards to discourage attacks, like Ghostly Prison, and my personal favourite, Sphere Of Safety. If you get the right hand she can kill someone with blistering speed, off of a couple of cheap enchantments and some evasion. Beyond that, my deck has a back up plan in a Bruna and a copy of Creeping Renaissance. Both of these let me get my enchantments back, and can lead to a game ending point. If the game runs long enough even just two effects that draw a card per enchantment can end it with the amount of card advantage that is provided. It’s a pretty powerful deck, looking to draw more cards than your opponents while also having a bigger creature
@charleybrett1663

Dude trust me, a commander in 3 colours with no generic mana in its cost or really any reason at all to be caring about generic mana is not a good tron commander. Not that tron is played much in commander anyway...

@@pawelkalisz3549 Nothing too fancy. I've got the Phyrexian Unlife+Solemnity soft lock, which just makes you not lose rather than win. Then I have Omniscience which with enough enchantresses out just lets you play your deck; not exactly a combo but if it can happen it's rad. The big one is the Aura Shards+Ajani's Chosen+Enchanted Evening one. Just wipe everyone's entire board, make a billion cats, blow up Ajani's Chosen and pass turn. While it's not an instant win I haven't seen a way for folks to recover from it once it resolves.

When the Bolas's Clutches was exiled, the control of Aura shards reverted back to its original controller. An easy way of thinking about it is "If was taken from the battlefield, it will go back to its original owner. If it was put directly into play (with an effect such as Bribery) then it will go into exile." It's complicated, but they were correct.

I dunno, he'd have killed Muddstah with it but it looks like he wouldn't have been able to deal with Mirri since if he had any removal he'd prob have used it already. And at that point once Vivien gets to emblem it's only a matter of a couple turns.
@DarkEinherjar
@DarkEinherjar 5 лет назад
With each Rat Colony hitting for 10+ unblockable damage, a few swings with one rat would've been enough. And once Marrow-Gnawer was back, he'd be doubling his rat army (and thus the power of each Rat Colony) each turn. As for Vivien, a single Rat Colony would've knocked her out.

Here is the specific rule for the situation. The relevant example would be the first one, with Mind Control: 800.4a: When a player leaves the game, all objects (see rule 109) owned by that player leave the game and any effects which give that player control of any objects or players end. Then, if that player controlled any objects on the stack not represented by cards, those objects cease to exist. Then, if there are any objects still controlled by that player, those objects are exiled. This is not a state-based action. It happens as soon as the player leaves the game. If the player who left the game had priority at the time they left, priority passes to the next player in turn order who's still in the game Example: Alex casts Mind Control, an Aura that reads, "You control enchanted creature," on Bianca's Assault Griffin. If Alex leaves the game, so does Mind Control, and Assault Griffin reverts to Bianca's control. If, instead, Bianca leaves the game, so does Assault Griffin, and Mind Control is put into Alex's graveyard Example: Alex casts Act of Treason, which reads, in part, "Gain control of target creature until end of turn," targeting Bianca's Runeclaw Bears. If Alex leaves the game, Act of Treason's change-of-control effect ends and Runeclaw Bears reverts to Bianca's control. Example: Alex casts Bribery, which reads, "Search target opponent's library for a creature card and put that card onto the battlefield under your control. Then that player shuffles their library," targeting Bianca. Alex puts Serra Angel onto the battlefield from Bianca's library. If Bianca leaves the game, Serra Angel also leaves the game. If, instead, Alex leaves the game, Serra Angel is exiled. Example: Alex controls Genesis Chamber, which reads, "Whenever a nontoken creature enters the battlefield, if Genesis Chamber is untapped, that creature's controller creates a 1/1 colorless Myr artifact creature token." If Alex leaves the game, all such Myr tokens that entered the battlefield under Alex's control leave the game, and all such Myr tokens that entered the battlefield under any other player's control remain in the game.

So when “me” died dean wouldn’t have gotten aura shards should have been exiled
@DarkEinherjar
@DarkEinherjar 4 года назад
Yes, he would. When a player loses the game, things happen, in this order: -all permanents and spells they own leave the game with them; -if there are any abilities on the stack that player controls, they cease to exist as well; -all effects that give that player control of permanents owned by other players, regardless of their sources and durations, end, returning those permanents to the previous controller; -after that, if there are still any permanents under that player's control, they're exiled. Aura Shards was stolen by In Bolas's Clutches. When Andrew left the game, the aura left the game with him and the controlling effect ended, so Aura Shards returned to Dean. Aura Shards would've been exiled if Andrew had cast it or put it on the battlefield under his control to begin with.

*800.4a* When a player leaves the game, all objects (see rule 109) owned by that player leave the game and *any effects which give that player control of any objects or players end.* Then, if that player controlled any objects on the stack not represented by cards, those objects cease to exist. *Then, if there are any objects still controlled by that player, those objects are exiled.* This is not a state-based action. It happens as soon as the player leaves the game. If the player who left the game had priority at the time he or she left, priority passes to the next player in turn order who’s still in the game. In this game's example, Dean is the default controller of Aura Shards and Muddstah took control of it. When he lost, In Bolas's Clutches left the game with him and its controlling effect ended, causing Aura Shards to return to Dean's control. Let's say, however, that Muddstah cast Aura Shards after exiling it with Mind's Dilation. This makes him the default controller. In this case, his loss would cause Aura Shards to be exiled.

Way back before muddstah had the muddstah goblin intro it was a boring intro to the games. People complaining about so muddstah mad an intro using the most generic goblin snicker noise and pretty much that's all people talked about in the comments below the video. Also alot of people saying it was bad. So muddstah in his very next video trolled everyone in the previous videos comment section by changing the intro from a generic snickering goblin noise to someone saying "generic goblin noise". Then the comment section went crazy and everyone loved it. So he continued the trend creating many new intros saying something about a generic goblin noise

Not if Dom chose to return it to the command zone, which he probably did, or Dean would've never blown up his own O-Ring (Aura Shards's trigger is optional).
@SupremeAim

@@DarkEinherjar Not true, it's a replacement effect. If a permanent causes you to exile your commander until that permanent leaves the battlefield, you can choose to put your commander in the command zone but it can be retreived from the CZ if the permanent leaves.
@DarkEinherjar
@DarkEinherjar 5 лет назад
That's true for effects that use that "exile until leaves the battlefield" text, because it's a single ability with an ongoing effect. Oblivion Ring is different. It has two separate triggers, one when it enters and one when it leaves. In order for the permanent to return with O-Ring leaving the battlefield, it has to remain exiled by O-Ring's effect. If it's not, O-Ring can't return anything. This is why cards like O-Ring and Fiend Hunter can be abused the following way: you put the ETB trigger on the stack, then respond to it by making the card leave the battlefield. The LTB trigger resolves first and does nothing, and then the ETB resolves, causing the permanent to be exiled permanently.

@DarkEinherjar
@DarkEinherjar 5 лет назад
Yeah, the older cards like O-Ring and Fiend Hunter were too confusing and abusable, which is why Wizards made the new text and stopped making cards with the older one. They also made it so players can only use the newer cards on the opponents' permanents, to prevent infinite ETB/LTB loop combos.

@AkumaDaste 5 лет назад
No, because Dom decided to place it in the Command zone instead of letting it be exiled.
@TheBalogna7
@TheBalogna7 5 лет назад
@@AkumaDaste Incorrect. Placing your commander in the command zone is the only recourse to a commander being exiled (for the purposes of this situation you can think of them as the same zone). If O-ring were to be removed Marrow-Gnawer comes back just like any other card would. However had Dom recast Maro-Gnawer, it gets killed again, and then O-ring is removed, Marrow-Gnawer is no longer the same object that was exiled by O-ring and thus would not return to the battlefield. It's kind of confusing but that's how it works.
@TheBalogna7
@TheBalogna7 5 лет назад
Sorry I misspoke slightly. Going to the command zone is a replacement effect. The commander is still in exile, but also in the command zone, and thus can be brought back once the permanent exiling it is removed.
@Bluq16
@Bluq16 5 лет назад
@@TheBalogna7 in case of older exile cards like O-ring the commander does not return, that is because the return ability references exile, like in O-ring it says "When Oblivion Ring leaves the battlefield, return the exiled card to the battlefield under its owner's control." Since it references specifically an exiled card and since the exile was replaced to the command zone, O-ring only searches the exile zone for the card, therefore Marrow-Gnawer does not return.

2 issues. Firstly, when oblivion ring left the battlefield the marrow gnawer should have returned to the battlefield from the command zone based on the wording on oblivion ring. Secondly, when you lost the aura shards should have been exiled and not returned to dean. Good game regardless
@CHAREDot9
@CHAREDot9 5 лет назад
Landon Labonte that’s not how oblivion ring works. Marrow gnawed never gets exiled with the ring in the first place if it goes to the command zone and so the ability just fizzles altogether because it no longer has anything to track
@rampagingraptor
@rampagingraptor 5 лет назад
The second one is also wrong. Aura shards would not have been exiled because there was still a controlling effect from Dean from originally putting it in play. It would only be exiled if there were no other controlling effects on the card.
@novaknight30

@@CHAREDot9 there is a long article on edhrec explaining that that is exactly how oblivion ring works in edh. I suggest reading it or talking to a judge.
