The bit with Duncan talking about being jealous of not being in UB40 speaks volumes on what has happened with UB40 today. It's really ruined the legacy sadly.
@Borris Pita Hi…. Ali and Robin had an idea of starting a band for years ( being from a musical family ) so Robin told him to come back when he was serious, which he did when he received the compensation which enabled them to buy second hand instruments and the rest they say is history. Ali and Robin wrote a book called Blood and Fire which is a really good read.
I’ve just read it & it’s a great read but the bit I find strange is them saying they live in the slums , I’m from Birmingham & they lived on speedwell road & all the houses on there are huge , there dad had the biggest folk club in Europe so I doubt they were really that poor
Yes, with the compensation money he was awarded for his accident, he was able to put the money towards kitting the band out with their instruments. I'd say that's a pretty significant gesture towards getting the band started, wouldn't you..
When Ian said UB40 were above pop music, that spoke volumes about him. It is quite well known that Ali used his compensation money to buy musical instruments to start UB40. It is understandable that he wasn't happy by the time he left the band. I don't agree with him using the UB40 name when the rest of the band kept on going. RIP Ian Campbell.
When he said he doesn’t like reggae music he meant he’s pretty shite at singing reggae music, that’s the real reason he want in the band, as he proved for 13 years of nearly ruining them
