Most Trekkies would say Diana Muldaur, who replaced Gates McFadden in Season 2 of Star Trek: TNG, after she was fired by Maurice Hurley. Thankfully, McFadden was back in Season 3 after Maurice Hurley himself was canned.
Donna Reed was actually treated like crap on Dallas - she had a right to sue them. It basically did her health in. She was let go in spring 1985 and she died in January 1986. She was a class act and great actress. To see her treated badly like this in the video, not cool
@@samanthasims7123 Josh Meyers. Seth Meyers' little brother, was brought on as Randy. He was AWFUL. The show's producers wanted Eddie Kaye Thomas (American Pie) as the replacement but FOX insisted on Meyers because of his time on Mad TV.
Tiffany Amber T actually was a popular addition to the show, hence why she stayed on for the duration of the shows' run which was almost twice as long as Shannon's time. The rating's actually went up following Shannon Douertys' departure and Tiffany's first year. Most important, there was none of the tensions with Tiffany and the rest of the cast like there was with Shannon.
I hate to say it, but I loved that show, and I was shocked by Shannon's departure. BUT, even given those things, I really liked Tiffany, too. I think they were both great.
This comment is so inaccurate. Like grossly. There was tension with Jennie and the girls right til the end where the chick that played Gina pleaded to be let go because of the bullying . Look it up dude. Jennie even tried to make Tiffani an outcast at first but Tiffani stood her ground . It's all easy info most 90210 fans know.
Never liked that move. Didn't care for the show after that. The brothers dynamic was awesome. Mooching off of a billionaire, not so much. At least it wasn't for me.
@@johnedinger8343 Yes, absolutely. I hear so many people go on about Season 8 and 9 being good, and I'm not disagreeing that they weren't ok at best, they just weren't the same without Steve Carell. Love him or hate him, he was a huge part of the show, so it would have seemed fitting to end the show with him leaving.
@@dm9489 I've never heard people talk about either season being all that good. If they are, then they weren't familiar with the beginning of the series.
Roseanne had a scene where Chalke and Roseanne were watching a rerun of Bewitched and Chalked saying that replacing a character with a different actor was ridiculous.
@@latarribell7827 Donna went blonde because the actress had to dye her hair for a movie she was doing so they wrote the whole blonde Donna thing into the show
They didn't replace Ritter with Spade. Spade was an addition. If Spade replaced Ritter that would mean that Spade would be the new Dad but that wasn't the case.
Jeanne Tripplehorn replacing Paget Brewster on "Criminal Minds" was a horrid and terrible idea. I would have rather popped my eyes out with a spork than watch the way she (and Erica Messmaker) ruined a once really good show.
Couldn't agree with you more. The show lost itself totally when they fired Thomas Gibson. I was so pissed I even didn't want to watch it when Paget returned. Still don't want to..
I really didnt understand why the f'ck 90210 had the caucacity to keep running after Jason Priestley/Brandon left the series. Even bringing Dylan back seemed pointless as his character regressed back to his 16 year old persona. None of the other characters were interesting enough to carry the show.
Ivan Dixon as Sgt. Kinchloe from Hogan's Heroes was replaced after their 5th season. I loved his character! I first watched HH few years ago and I am watching it again.
How about Little House On The Prairie when Nellie (Alison Arngrim) was written out only to be replaced by NANCY ( Allison Balson) who was TEN times worse!
What killed Beverly hills 90210 was that the show just wasn't the same after they graduated from high school and went to college and it went downhill from there.
I never was a Rita fan. Sorry juts couldn't get into her character. I gave my moments with her. But I actually liked Hannah better. That's how I felt watching all of the seasons. I'm excited for the new Dexter revival as I'll call it.
As much as I wanted Brenda back, Valerie was definitely great and brought a lot of drama. Having her and Brandon leave at the start of season 9 killed the show, couldn't watch the rest. Matt was so dull and felt like a wannabe Brandon Walsh similar to Noah being a wannabe Dylan (but somewhat more bearable until Dylan comes back)
Agreed. I feel like Valerie was great and it was refreshing to see Kelly Kapowski be a bad girl. But when Dylan first left, the show struggled...and went totally down hill once Brandon left.
Valerie was a breath of fresh air & seeing the look on Steve's face when he sees her he's already smitten & I know Tiffany had always wanted to play a bad girl. She wanted to shed her image as beauty queen Kelly & not be typecast it wasn't her that dragged the show down.
Thoughts on Last Man Standing's Mandy Replacement... While I appreciate that the new actress made it her own character (rather than attempting to replicate Ephraim's portrayal), S7-9 Mandy portrayal was not interesting and did not fit the character (a bit of a jump in personality). It ruined the fun humor in family interactions with the prev actress. It would have been better if either... 1. Mandy was written out after mid-S7 2. Mandy was written off after S6, until Ephraim could return to cameo or star in S8-9. McCook would've been cast as a brand new character.
Army wives. The killed off Claudia Joy due to Kim Delaney’ s personal demons. They brought Brooke Shields on for Michael. That was just wrong. Michael would have grieved for his wife. Brookes character would not be someone Michael would be attracted to. That killed the show for me
Dr. Haus didn´t end because of the new characters. The new doctors where nice. They just arrived in a series that was near the end of his course, where the old character had a long story and changed a lot. I think it ended relatively well.
I think the problem was that she was such a blatant replacement and they did certain things with her character that either made no sense or just kind of pidgeonholed her into the "bad" girl role.
I don't agree about Dexter being ruined by the death of Rita(Julie Benz). The show was ruined after season 5 because it never deviated from the same villain of the season formula, and his metro police colleagues (except Laguerda) became increasingly dumb for not seeing that Dexter was the Harborbay Butcher.
I also stopped watching because the second breakfast crew was not right this season. I was trying to push through the Anna Kat switch but her friends were so important to the show for me!
Recasting is an undesirable practice regardless of the actor's performance quality. It can ruin the experience. It should be avoided at all costs. If it has to be done then hopefully you can at least make it make sense. An in story explanation as to why the character looks/sounds different with the actor still being able to capture the character essence.
I had to quit American Housewife that last season, Anna-Kat was my favorite & it was just such a noticeable change...not even a little subtle, just too damn noticeable
I think Charmed was better after Shannon left. It would've been nice to keep her for the rest of the seasons, However, Rose McGowan sure didn't make me miss Shannon either.
@@ssilva872 I liked Prue. I just didn't mind it when she died 😂 It was sad but I don't feel like it changed the show much. You could almost see the drama going on behind set when Shannen was on the show, but when Rose came in I felt like I seen that less? If that makes sense. Either way charmed was destined to be popular.
@@cainesaintclair1045 I understand. We are cool lol. I really wish they had an episode where Prue helped them like Grahams and Penny do from beyond the grave.
a) J Depp leaving 21 Jump Street after S4. Noone even remembers the name of the actor who replaced him. I think however it wasnt as Thomas Hanson b) The old British series Mind Your Language, S4 had a slew of new actors to replace many of the classic cast, and the newbies were terrible in every regard.
I do remember Johnny Depp’s replacement actor’s name - Richard Grieco. The show should have ended when Depp left the show, though. It was never the same after Depp left….
Me personally it was not listed here but when they killed off/Fired Clayne Crawford who played Martin Riggs on Lethal Weapon it was not the same anymore
@@Melina-fi3sc Yeah I never finished the second season and didn't do the 3rd. If Daymon didn't want to be in a cop where he wouldn't be the only leading actor. Then he should have said no to the show.
NOOOOOO! The worst was Emma Samms (who I loved as Holly on "General Hospital") replacing Pamela Sue Martin as Fallon on "Dynasty". She didn't have the aggressive drive of her predecessor- it was like replacing Sophia Loren with Debbie Reynolds. Also, there's not a bitchy bone in her Fallon compared to Martin's.
I had always just heard that Molly Ephraim refused to follow LMS FROM ABC to Fox....because it's Fox...and that her political issues with Tim Allen sealed the deal for her leaving.
@@zapkvr Yup. But honestly, right before she left the show she was lashing out at people on Twitter and Instagram in the most self-righteous fashion. Can't say I'm a fan anymore (Goodbye to Mandy's Pie Rack)
The 1st episode with the new actress, Will Smith looks at her and says, "Aunt Viv...there's something different about you." EDIT: My mistake, JAZZ says "Mrs Banks, there's something different about you", then Will looks at the camera.
But Mike Evans came back! Still should've been on here. Mike's Lionel was on the very first episode of ALL IN THE FAMILY long before we ever meet his parents George and Louise!
I suppose that all of these are better than grounded for life though, when the kid goes upstairs and just never comes back down....then they act like they never had a 3rd kid lol
It’s always very upsetting when a replacement comes in after you get used to someone playing the role that they play you want for them to play that role forever. But that’s not always the case they might want to get off the show any way that they can get off.
I loved the first season of Last Man Standing. When season 2 started, I had no idea about the behind the scenes changes. I couldn't make it through the first episode. When I found out that the new showrunner had decided to screw with the show to put his own "mark" on it, I vowed to never watch it again.
The real kicker about that 90210 thing, Years latter she was hired to play Prue Hollywell on Charmed. They fell out again and in comes Rose McGowan as Page Mathews and wala instant success. It sure is funny how the two shows share the same producer.
I like Brenda and Valerie. I didn’t like Matt replacing Brandon or Gina replacing Valerie. Should’ve ended the series in season 8 with Brandon and Kelly getting married.
The video should have been called “tv big wigs think they know more than the actual fans”. Every time some tv executive thinks they know what a shows needs it gets cancelled. 😂🤣
I don't think it's fair to blame actors who come as replacements onto long running series. Often these series are near running out of gas and that is the reason some of the actors left in the first place.
"The two Beckys"---when the last episode revealed that (SPOILER ALERT?) the whole series (or at least the last seasons) were a fiction that Roseanne Conner had written about 'the way things might've been' (it's been a long time since I saw that episode), does she mention how one or both Beckys were also a figment of her imagination?
The worst replacement was Ashton Kutcher. He was boring, self-righteous, and basically; just a lousy actor. 'Pretty stupid choice. The character of Miss Ellie in Dallas was important; no denying that. What bothers me is how Jock Ewing played by the late, great Jim Davis seems almost forgotten. They did try to replace him in the mid eighties, but Davis did such a phenomenal job playing the character that it ultimately proved impossible.
You got the Dallas recast completely wrong! Barbara Bel Geddes did have an operation but she was not replaced during that time, she was just on leave for the show. Donna Reed replaced her later when because of a salary dispute. When she wasn't well received by fans, they asked Bel Geddes to resturn.
I started watching Last Man Standing a few seasons into its run, so I prefer Amanda Fuller as Kristen. But Molly Ephraim was Mandy. Molly McCook gave it her best, but Molly E. was a natural fit.
Look, Tiffani Thiessen on BH90210 was everything. She wasn't Brenda, but she was so far off from Brenda's personality that it didn't matter. This show badly needed a villain.
