Rest in peace, Diana Rigg. To a girl growing up in the 60s you were the first kickass woman who could handle her own business and that of other people, too. Maybe the guys out there wanted to know Emma Peel, but plenty of girls wanted to BE her.
Yes!!!! I had a crush on her growing up and I turned out gay! It’s just that she was such a pretty yet kick ass woman. We gay men love our powerful women. RIP Diana.
My favorite TV theme .. I came to this page after seeing Diana Rigg's acting credit on Game Of Thrones.. Her in that leather cat suit was a stunner.. No wonder dad never seemed to miss an episode.
This one my favorite to love the memories come flooding back. Then I think Lost in Space would be 2nd and the theme to Believe it or Not with Jack Palance as host. Things were so much better back then. The music, tv, movies and just people in general. 😢 Thanks for letting me rant a bit about my favorite subject.....the old days !😊❤
Neither did my dad! In fact, when that show was in reruns on independent TV, he'd watch it. He enjoyed both the Ian Fleming Bond books and the movies they inspired.
Laurie Johnson, an Englishman, composed the Avengers Theme. He was also a bandleader. One of the best TV themes ever. I can listen to this all day long and not tire of it.
@@cowboy7170Those Brits knew how to put together those string 🎻 arrangements. I think that South Africa radio had a drama of the same name (The Avengers) back in the sixties with the same theme song. Found this out when SUNY OSWEGO Public Radio played old transcriptions of old time radio programs, back over 20 years ago.
Just heard the news today about Diana Rigg's passing....as a child in the 60's loved the show Avengers even though I didn't always understand what was going on....I especially love that theme song.....Mrs. Peel was beautiful, Rest In Peace Diana 😔
I LOVE THIS SONG....it brings me back.....couldnt wait to watch what Emma was going to get herself into next! I think I was around 8 when i fell in love with her,,,wanted to be just like her and even signed EMMA on my school tests ,,,,,yeah i know that sounds pretty strange but i never identified myself as being stable!!! Anyway the tune is amazing and the production on all of these action shows are great.
my opinion, the best theme music of any t.v. production, with that deep deep double beat bass, like a heart beat... combined with these classic b/w stills of Patrick and Diana makes this absolutely unforgettable and that this program at its height in the late 60's early 70's still resonates with many many people fortunate to be old enough to have seen this weekly, when it was first broadcast, is truly a time treasure for us all, who 'were there'.... Diana, you were Amazing.. and that you had a designer/supplier not only for your wardrobe for also just for your shoes, well....
Nothing touched the opening themes of the 60's... The Avengers, The Munsters, Lost in Space, Batman, and the rest - all here on Gilligan's Island. It was the best...
You brought a profound point because None of the TV shows today can Match any of The Shows you listed. I remember running to the Couch the Moment I heard that theme song to watch the Series. I don't get that from any TV show today.
It would be nearly 25 years when I would look forward to a show that not only was entertaining with it's sub-rosa information but would have the sexual tension of it's characters and that would be the X-Files. The Avengers however started it.
From what I've heard, ABC (the American TV network) actually refused to air the "Queen of Sin" episode when the series was first shown back in the '60s. Similarly, NBC rejected the first Star Trek pilot because (among other things) it featured "erotic" green-skinned dancing slave girls. What prudes we were back then....
LUV-IT, LUV-IT, LUV-IT, & LUV-IT Some More....................Inspired me to buy my first car in 1973, a brand new 1974 MG B/GT it cost $4500.00 & that says it all !!!!
It started with Dr David Keel avenging the death of his wife, meeting this rough and tumble guy in a trench coat called John Steed. From there it was remade and became what we know and love through three original eras with the characters Cathy Gale, Emma Peel and Tara King. And the later New Avengers with Perdey and Gambit. The Steed was constant.
Though I loved both, I always preferred this stylish b/w theme and graphics, to the later, more glossy, colour version. Those images of Diana had quite an effect on me [aged 7/8!].
@LoosMoose Don't forget Pearl Orton, who got credit for Diana Rigg's hair (and what fabulous hair it is) BTW, I LOVE how at 1:06 Mrs Peel actually strikes a pose after kicking that guys ass 6 Ways From Sunday!!!!!!
I've always loved this theme song! I always thought Emma Peel was intoxicating too...now that I'm 70 years old, I'd love to find reruns of this program, but RU-vid will suffice!
@robertgift Actually if you watch enough episodes, they were rather creative and unlike other spy programs of the same era. I.E. Mission: Impossible, Get Smart or Man From UNCLE. Patrick Macnee and Diana Rigg did the hell out of it though.
The Avengers is currently running on Great TV (Freeview 50) Tara King has just joined the team after the departure of Emma Peel. The character Mother has also appeared.
Emma Peel was the ultimate role model for women when there were none...I just loved this show...even as an African American 12yr old girl I knew this wasn't like anything in the US...
I have made this my ring-tone! Works great. Started watching all seasons again, tarting with season 1 ep 1. Black and white and lousy sound. LOL. I could not wait for season 4, when Emma came onto the set, finally making this series a success. Unfortunately season 4 is also in blk/wht , even tho season 3 was already colour....Scratching my head about that one. I even paid Amazon Prime, so I could see those episodes without ads. I still feel like a child, when I watch these movies now, even though, I am twice (and more) Emma's age (movie age). She was my first crush and embodied everything that I was looking for in a woman, later on in life.
I'm sure a few of you are familiar with how The Art of Noise had a series of spy / cop themes goin': Peter Gunn Dragnet James Bond had they continued this one was due for their treatment. Even that bassy riff > "bum bum, boot doot doot doot doodle loo" would've been perfect for their style of re-voicing !! if I had ahold of AI programming, I'd whip it up myself !
1960s Britain was a great decade for music film and drama. Beautiful girls in mini skirts and Emma Peel to look forward to. Alexandria Bastedo and Anouska Hempel come to mind. Lysette Anthony was another favourite love object of mine a few decades on.
At the end credits, the only time I have ever seen a female star have a listing for who provided her SHOES. All that leather.... oh my..... what a babe...
The Britts had Diana Rigg & the Yanks had Julie Newmar...was no complaints about black & white television as a kid back then. As for plot the Avengers & Batman sucked but women in catsuits made it worth enduring poor acting. Just think, (2012) Diana is 85 and Julie is 89, but let's not dwell on that, let's remember them in B&W.
Rebs had BOTH as well! And no complaints at all from this one at all. Both of these Women were incredibly seductive Actresses back in the day with great dry senses of humor as well!😂🤣😂😘😏🎤💃💃📺B.W.
As if graduating weren't, in itself, cause for great celebration, but when your Uni's chancellor is your all-time favourite role-model, Emma Peel, and she has your degree in her hand, how else should a girl feel other than high as a kite?! 🏴❤
