I 100% agree with you. We didn’t need the internet Or mobile phones We cycled our bikes Read comics Played outside Life was fun. Kids were healthy (and slim) I’m a 70’s child. I agree with you.
Yes, I agree also. I collect comics from that era for nostalgia, Beano, Dandy, Whizzer & Chips, Beezer, Topper, Buster & Monster Fun, Cheeky, Action, to name but a few...
@@minty448 Lol - I bow to your superior hairdressing knowledge. Now that you have said it, I do remember the name and popularity of the cut, to be eclipsed by the Purdey in the not too far future!! 😀
Our Programmes had some Great Themes back in the 60s and 70s and I recorded lots of them instead of pop songs. They 'meant something ' to us youngsters, and still do to us (now older people).
Fabulous programme, great mix of characters, a beautiful setting, and some surprisingly poignant messages in the story lines. This also fuelled my love of horses and taught me that they are a responsibility for life. I bought mine as a 12 year old and he made it to 27, happy and active to the end.
wow,as a little girl i longed to own a horse..i now own 8 and its all down to this programme...trip down memory lane...also just heard the white horses theme....trip away down to my childhood..thankyou
March '24. For the wonderful Mr Christian Rodska AKA Ron Stryker in Follyfoot. Great memories of Christian,Dora, Steve, Slugger [Arthur English] and the Colonel. Christian was the loveable Happy as Larry rouge Mr Get it done, Foot in the mouth Ron. I really enjoyed Follyfoot, the theme, the settings, the whole cast. One of the best TV programmes ever. I am not 67 and actually watched many episodes in 2023. God Bless Christian Rodska May you Rest in Peace. Thank you for the many happy decades of wonderful memories.
This was shown Saturday mornings between a kids show called Saturday Scene introduced by Sally James. I remember it well, especially the theme by The Settlers.
Huge, gorgeous dollops of childhood nostalgia!.....loved this,Robinson Crusoe and my all time favourite The Flashing Blade...there's a theme tune that simply can't be topped!
Suppose the horse and cart were still within living memory, so, nostalgia. Even I remember the rag and bone man with his horse drawn cart back then. As a result, Champion the wonder horse, Follyfoot, White Horses, Black Beauty....
@@AndrewHalliwell Ah, White Horses! The theme song from that can reduce me to jelly at the overload of 1970s nostalgia. I know it was a rough time for many people with the oil crisis, Winter of Discontent etc. (I remember my dad complaining about the price of petrol going over a pound a gallon) - but I was a kid and I remember it as a sort of golden wonderland... funny how perspective is everything.
I WATCHED EVERY EPISODE, I HAD THE BIGGEST CRUSH ON GILLIAN BLAKE, AS SOON AS THE MUSIC STARTED I WAS TRANSPORTED TO HAREWOOD HOUSE WHERE FOLLYFOOT WAS FILMED IT WAS BRILLIANT, SUPERB FAR BETTER QUALITY THAN THE MUCK THEY PRODUCE NOWADAYS. THANKYOU FOR KEEPING MINE AND OTHER PEOPLES MEMORIES OF THIS BEAUTIFUL, ATMOSPHERIC PROGRAMME ALIVE.
I've had this tune going round in the back of my mind for that last 30 years... Found out tonight is called "lightning tree" and that is from Folly Foot is TV show! Jeez... Shame kids don't have proper TV like this nowadays!
Reading some of the comments on RU-vid, seems this was filmed at Harewood house up near me here in Yorkshire! Well have to talk with them about that when im next up there....
god i loved this when i was little, i raved soooo much about it to my grown up kids they got me the whole box set 4 xmas, guess what.?? still love it.,thanx kids for making your old mum happy lol xxxxxx can i have a horse now. lolxxxx
I can never remember any of the details of the series itself beyond it being set on a farm....... but THIS 'greatest of all kids theme 'SONGS' [I specify 'song' as it is lyrical and we all know that for INSTRUMENTALS nothing will EVER beat 'Robinson Crusoe's sheer haunting power] has NEVER left me. Closely followed by Ace of Wands but I think IK'm the last person alive that can remember that!
Marvelous. They don't make 'em like this anymore. Some of the incidental music was from the Chappel music library and one particular track also features in 'The Prisoner's' 'The Chimes of Big Ben' episode. I often watch the opening titles over and over again. Dear Arthur English as Slugger was hilarious but was only a comedy support. He deserved his own story lines. Originally watched this in the 70's when it was 1st shown but my memory of 'Randall & Hopkirk' and 'Catweazle' is earlier.
To all the wonderful people who have written to me over the years I wish you all a very wonderful Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year. Jackie Lee.
+MsJackieLee One of the best 4 childrens theme tunes adults of a certain will NEVER forget. The others being Flashing blade, your very own white horses and my own personal favourite Ace of Wands. Such happy memories Jackie
dlamiss Ace of Wands? good lord i thought i was the only person on the planet that remembered that show. But sorry if you are going on tv themes the one i want on repeat on head phones when its my time is The theme from Robinson Crusoe, well maybe with Belle and Sebastian thrown in just because my parents adopted me at 9 months old and and an 8 week old retriever pup on the same day , when i was 15 i had to let my "sister" go. Without doubt one of the most heart breaking days of my life. People who dont understand have told me she was only a dog, yeah? well nobody told her that.
Watched religiously then galloped across the park ( no real horse required ) to meet my best friend Gina and relive the whole program again. Wonderful.
The children's TV program "Follyfoot" was shown on Australian TV in the early to mid 1970's & the theme song "Lightning Tree" which was sung by The Settlers was a chart hit here too. I haven't heard the song or seen images of the TV program since then. Thanks for bringing back memories.
Gillian Blake! We had some beautiful "older" women on children's tv when I was the right age! My formative years were full of dreams about them!! Beautiful theme to a great programme by the way!!!
was the first ever thing i saw on our tv when my parents bought a new black and white when i was about 8 or 9,, its haunted me ever since and i ,ve loved the theme and the series,,,superb british series,,
I admit I am too young for this show, a friend that watched it cited it as one of this favourite tv programs as a child so I checked it out. I am perhaps of the wrong generation to really enjoy the plot but the theme is just fantastic even by todays standards. I often return and listen to this amongst old themes I that personally remember, just because I feel it's so good it's a show I would've watched if I was older.
This is wonderful! I had forgotten about this show. I remember watching this when I was 9 or so. Came to Canada when I was 10 1/2. Brings back happy memories!!!
All I remember about this programme was that the main character (Dora?) seemed to spend all her time crying; my dad used to come in from work when it was on, and he'd always comment along the lines of 'Oh no, not more bloody misery...'
@@piespeafield I must be shallow, I always wanted her hairstyle. For years I asked various hairdressers, but they obviously weren't into Follyfoot. Shame on them.
The theme tune of Follyfoot is sung by the original incarnation of English West Midlands folk quartet the Settlers. Follyfoot was originally transmitted in the days when we only had three analogue television stations (BBC1, BBC2 and ITV) in the United Kingdom.
Who can remeber entire albums of theme tunes being released? I listen to this and feel old, but boy do I enjoy it, not only did we have decent theme tunes we also had decent programmes, and did they keep us coming back for more! I miss them. When I have seen excerpts of childrens t.v. recently, I can only think what do the powers that be think they are doing, I also agree that too many anouncers now speak over theme tunes.
Great days the 70s ,thought we were supposed to progress as time goes on ,but we seemed to be going backwards on all fronts. Even nostalgia is not like it used to be🤪
Lightning Tree Lyrics:- Down in the meadow where the wind blows free, in the middle of a field stands a lightning tree. Its limbs all torn from the day it was born for the tree was born in a thunderstorm. CHORUS Grow, grow, the lightning tree, it's never too late for you and me; Grow, grow, the lightning tree, never give in too easily. Down in the meadow where the wind blows light, the lightning struck in the middle of the night. Limbs stripped bare by the lightning flare the lightning flare was a wild affair. CHORUS Down in the meadow where the wind blows cold, the lightning tree stands stiff and old. Branches bent when the lightning rent the lightning rent from the firmament. CHORUS Down in the meadow with the wind in the west, the lightning tree faced up to the test. Its heart went snap when it took the rap, the terrible rap of the thunder clap. CHORUS Down in the meadow when the wind blows free, a whispering breeze in the lightning tree. Dreams come true if you want them to if you want them to, then it's up to you. CHORUS x2.
