My favourite theme of any show as a kid and I loved the show. Barrymore was the funniest guy on tele by far. I was always jealous of the kids that got to go on the Xmas special. Never heard this full version before either. I still walk around humming this theme.
I’ve always come back to this track. Naked Video theme is also amazing. When making music was still undertaken by passionate musicians and not a corporate formulaic algorithm expert.
Composer is session bassist Paul Westwood. What a deceptively simple theme, and lovely to hear the full version here. The bridge is a bit crap (but they often are), the little horn solos are unexpected and wonderful. The best part though is the modulated main riff (0:21) because it's such a great resolution musically to the main theme and tickles my soul somehow. It just makes it even better to know this was simply a library piece before being plucked 'off the shelf' for stardom!
I used to watch Strike It Lucky for the theme alone. It was that catchy enough to beam me in. Of course, I ended up enjoying the competition and all the funny moments that came with it.
I'm now 40, and Strike It Lucky/Rich was omnipresent during my childhood and teenage years. To this very day I often find myself whistling or humming that opening few bars of the theme when I'm sat in traffic or reading through paperwork lol Despite the whole "Barrymore thing" I do have very fond memories of the show. Glad I'm not the only one out there who appreciates it for the great half hour of telly it was...
@@residentelect I'm also now 40, we both must have been the same age when we heard it first time around. I too sing and hum that tune, it was and still insanely catchy with the greatest hook being the main trumpet-esque melody that starts all of it. It is unfortunate what happened with Michael Barrymore since his TV career never recovered from it although there are still the memories. I'm also glad that I'm not alone in that regard either. Best Wishes to You Mate ;)
I couldn't agree more as there's absolotely nothing at all I watch on TV in England anymore as everything is rubbish. The 90's entertainment and game shows was so much better.
I might actually explode one day, at the sight of yet another tart warbling a lip quivering "ba-a-beyy" to Simon Cowell's approval. Honestly, I think it might be the end of me if it doesn't cease soon. I don't actually watch a single show on TV nowdays. I only ever see tradition telly on other people's sets. I own a couple of TV's, but I only use them as computer monitors. I'm wasting every single penny of the TV license I avoid paying. (sshhh!) ;-)
@@RossPatzelt It was production music, but on the Rouge Music label, part of Music De Wolfe. It was on an album called "Reflex" released in 1986. (and it's actually called "Born to Run", not Born to Win, that was my mistake). www.discogs.com/Paul-Westwood-Reflex/release/5604574
Challenge will be showing series 1-3 of Strike It Lucky in the New Year. To whet your appetites, as part of Challenge's First Ever Episode Christmas, the first episode of Strike It Lucky will be broadcast on Saturday 28th December (that's tomorrow) at 8.45pm.
The technology to produce this probably cost the price of a couple of houses :D It sounds a little Peter Van Hooke/Rod Argent who made quite a few themes for ITV.
Alan Carr has ruined Strike it Lucky , Take Your Pick and Play Your Cards Right , but Dave Spikey ruined Bullseye and Joe Pasquale ruined The Price is Right .
I am not a life guard. In 2003, Michael Barrymore came to Palmerston North to perform live on stage. Myself, my parents, my brother and my grandparents went to see the show. After the show, we were invited backstage. I wanted to meet Michael Barrymore because it was an opportunity of a lifetime. He signed me his autograph. My grandmother had a videotape of his live show in Blackpool in 1994. We watched it a lot and we laugh. She left me the videotape before she passed away.
Tony Montana He STILL is now! Bringing ‘Strike It Lucky’ Back currently on his Instagram page! Every weekday at 6pm and on Saturday and Sunday at 2pm! It’s definitely a must watch for game show nostalgia!
