The Wacky World of Tex Avery is a good show. The animation is nice, the characters are well-written, and the humor is actually good. It's inferior to the actual Tex Avery shorts I suppose, but it's still a good show, and in my rightful opinion, one of DIC's better productions alongside the likes of Sonic SatAM. The animators didn't hate working on this show, but rather it was made under a lot of pressure and constraints. There are some animation errors, but it's not bad, and it really improves from a decent start into a binge-worthy show towards episode 16, "Virtual Tex". Also they always list three writers both at the beginning of the shorts and the end credits, which most likely means *each short* was written by *one* of the three writers. Overall, this show is a 7.5/10 in my book, and my favorite DIC animated series.
I would rather watch the entire run of 'The Kwickie Koala Show' than this garbage. At least Tex worked on that. Sure, it's not as good as his earlier cartoons, but it's way better than THIS. And what Tex Avery's daughter did to get extra money, and the talent who did voice work on this shows is just depressing. Also, after Cookie Jar bought DIC, they would later be bought out, and morph into DHX Media. (AKA, The 'Pony' Studio.) So there's that, I guess.
I was wondering when you'd review this one. This was one of the first animated series I ever saw as a kid, and I barely remembered it other than the name and it had a cowboy... up until now. I always assumed the reason none of Tex Avery's original creation's appeared in the show was because of legal reasons, and apparently, I was right. Learning about what Tex's daughter did for this show to be made is just... depressing, seeing the name of a legend be tarnished and disgraced like this. I mean, I appreciate that someone was inspired by one of the great animators of the past to make their own cartoons, but it just feels like there was no love or care put into it, and this came out in the 90's, when creator-driven shows were commonplace once more.
Even the 90's shows like 'Tiny Toons', 'Animaniacs', 'Tax-Mania', 'Freamazoid', and 'Pinky & The Brain' used music alot in each episode, and was used very well. The DCAU shows can get away with having quite moments with no music because they're well made action cartoons that also know when to pause for character moments.
+MrJohnffrey87 EVEN I hate the Looney Tunes Show, for how they flanderize characters, and over-exaggerate established characters/characters who are made to be simple-minded or quiet... like Lola Bunny. I hate how Lola is just a carbon copy of Amy Rose in terms of being a brainless bimbo, and not being triggered for being called "DOLL". Does anyone recall that in Tex Avery cartoons, that women aren't suppose to be treated like sex objects, like in "Red Hot Riding Hood"?
@Robert Walker To be honest, I like all of the Looney Tunes cartoons, movies and shows (except for the 1960s cartoons (unless it's Wile E. Coyote and Cool Cat), Baby Looney Tunes and Loonatics) in my opinion.
Why is there a bunch of fart and drool sound effects in the opening? Because Tex Avery's cartoons used a lot of toilet humor, that's why. HECK NO!!!! In fact, he used some very sophisticated humor!
The reason that Pith Possum is competent compared to Power Pouch is because Pith is dealing with rotten luck (besides the fact he has a crush on a human girl, which is a common trope of old cartoons), whereas Pooch is just an idiot.
Fun fact: The actual studio that made this cartoon was Les Studio Tex, a short-lived subsidiary animation studio of DiC, located in France. After Tex, they made Archie's Weird Mysteries, Sabrina's Secret Life AND Sonic Underground. BTW, going back to one of your older reviews, Sonic Underground didn't air on UPN until around 2003 or 2004. It first premiered in France in January 1999 on TF1 and then in the UK in May on ITV1, then it finally aired in US in a syndication block called Bohbot Kids Network on local FOX stations and Sci-Fi Channel in Fall of 1999 on weekday mornings at 6AM CST. All of that, so it could supposedly gain interest in Sega's then new console, the Dreamcast . btw, have you ever considered redoing that review?

Fun Fact: Tex's daughter did it only because she had no money to send her kids to college. Tex Avery was a genius, but he made little money in life. Then the producers of that crapfest show tried to blackmail his daughter into accepting the little money they gave her. She called in Chuck Jones, and they had to pay up.
Most of those episodes were good though, but when you have four writers working on Atlantis Squarepantis, you can't help but wonder how it went so wrong.
Oh, I'm sure multiple writers doesn't equal bad writing ALL of the time; it's just a pet peeve of mine as to why it's necessary at all and I'd say you have a better risk of things not turning out well - especially for an animated short as opposed to a full-length episode.
At this point, I kinda doubt Cartoon Network, or even Boomerang will air the classic Tex Avery shorts anytime soon, but I'm honestly hoping that they get released on BluRay.
the exchange at 5:12 is actually a set-up for a cutaway gag involving an ad for a toyline called "Tex Extreme", I like how the show twists some of these classic gags, it's fun. Power Pooch is SUPPOSED to be bafflingly incompetent. He's very reminiscent of Earthworm Jim. Love him. The segments are not all "zany character annoys random person". Tex Avery focuses on the rivalry between Tex and Sid Power Pooch is all about a superhero who doesn't know how to do his job Pompeii Pete is about a naive fish-out-of-water character, who tries to be helpful but struggles with modern-day situations and technology (also Pete is a cinnamon roll :) ) Einstone is a mix of heavy slapstick and a bit of gross-out Maurice and Mooch is a bit like Tom and Jerry, with a small animal protagonist outsmarting a clumsy, but determined villain The ONLY segment that qualifies for the "zany character annoys random person" cliche is Freddy the Fly, but even then, it's funny to see how Amanda loses it and struggles to catch a purposefully annoying character (that personally didn't annoy me, just the characters, and even then I consider him my least favorite main character in the show)

Regardless, yeah, Red was more respectful in this case, because she doesn’t like being treated like a sex object.

You know, about the Snookums and Meat references when you were talking about Power Pooch, you probably should've picked a different show to talk about. Most people have never heard of that show, unless they've seen either Mr. Enter's review of it, or Nostalgia Critic's review of the Disney Afternoon shows. Or did you do a review of it? Bottom line, it's best to talk about a show most people have heard of.

Ever thought about reviewing bad shows co-produced by Cartoon Network, like Fat Dog Mendoza, the Cramp Twins, Spaced Out, Robotboy or My Spy Family? Not many people talk about those shows and they're pretty terrible.

its like FOX Kids saw the success of Kids WB witch did this style of humor right and wanted to copy it, and then failed. Also, unrelated, I just realized that a lot of TV reviewers do a lot of the same shows.
I have been wanting to do this one for some time, and just as I do it, it looks like Mr Enter will likely be bringing it up, at least in his "Worst Cartoons of the 90s" video. I have the worst luck.
Remember, this show aired in syndication, so it didn't air on the Fox Kids' lineup itself, but rather on local Fox affiliates outsides of the Fox Kids block. In my area, it aren on the local WB affiliate, and later on This TV.
I don't think he copied me; the only thing he's done with this show was put it No. 1 on his list of worst cartoons of the 90s, and I'm pretty sure he had that planned long before my video was posted.
