The Coast to Coast title sequence was designed in 1987 and was brilliant, so much so it survived to the end of their franchise. The station ident was updated in 1989, with the blue/grey backdrop and revised fanfare. The South was dropped from the station name and it traded as TVS Television, which sounded a bit ridiculous. A bit like if ITV called itself ITV Television.
Some very familiar klaxons going off here: the Yeovil Sheepskin Shop (why do you only see their ads on old tapes from Southern or TVS, never TSW or HTV West?), Ronald Binge's "The Watermill", mobile phones still as something close to a novelty, wire-haired lurchers (best dogs in the world) ... Obviously an end-of-an-era feel all round and the perfunctory closing titles of 'Police 5' look particularly old.
Yes that is very odd indeed too seeing as they came from Yeovil in Somerset of course after all?! Police 5 with Shaw Taylor meanwhile, used to be I think on a Sunday in the ITV London area, when it was LWT shared with Thames also. Although I think it ended there in 1990, but am not too sure on that one though. Thank you!
